Is Royal Caribbean building any small ships?
latebuyer replied to latebuyer's topic in Royal Caribbean International
That's true. I forgot that's their focus! If they were like norwegian and put more emphasis on solos then i would like the bigger ships. Do these ships have many solo cabins? Solos is definitely a growing demographic. Sorry getting off track. -

Just to add, it would be interesting if an mba or business person could provide insight here into royal caribbean's strategy. -
Is Royal Caribbean building any small ships?

I don't think i insinuated anything. I asked a question. I'm no business person, but to put it another way don't put all your eggs in one basket. People's suggestion that all royal caribbean should do is focus on families i think is wrong. -
Is Royal Caribbean building any small ships?

Is not the birth rate dropping? In Canada at least it is. I don't know that being 100% reliant on families is the way to go. Better to diversify. Plus there was some complaints on this forum that it is cheaper to go on an all inclusive then a royal caribbean ship. On the other hand, if you are going for the itinerary there are definitely pluses to taking a cruise. -

Is Royal Caribbean building any small ships?
latebuyer replied to latebuyer's topic in Royal Caribbean International
This is a really long thread. But i know Michael Bayley said something at one point. In any event, we'll have to see what happens. A big divide between those who think royal caribbean should focus on milk runs to coco cay and those who want the ships to go to different itineraries. Sad if they just become floating hotels and that's it. -
Is Royal Caribbean building any small ships?

I don’t know why we’re rehashing this. There has been statements from royal caribbean officials including Michael Bayley that they are introducing this new class. Are people suggesting they are lying? -

I hope so! I want to be able to cruise in the future on the smaller ships. -
As a canadian i received notice of the standby program for the first time. Someone told me solos don’t have to pay double on the standby program. Is that correct?

Post CRUISE LINE Single Supplement/Solo Bargains HERE
latebuyer replied to CCHelp 's topic in Solo Cruisers
It looks like the 14 day voyage of the glaciers on princess on may 22 doesn’t have the full single supplement. Lots of tax though. -

Thanks for sharing! Sounds like you’re an extrovert for sure. I probably wouldn’t initiate conversations with people. -

Just saw this thread about 5000 passenger cruise ships being built by norwegian. Has there been any news on smaller ships being built by royal caribbean? -
Yes, i’m just thinking that celebrity is a complete write off. This obc issue made me really mad. But some people still want to cruise with them.
-
I was excited as there was an extra obc special on a celebrity cruise i was looking at. I was told i wouldn’t get the obc as it was a solo special. The price wasn’t special except it was double price except for triple price! So not sure if solos should expect obc going forward. The 6 day pacific coastal in sep 24 is a good price. Still, this made me mad.
-
Would you be notified if your cruise becomes a specialty cruise before final payment? I just recall last year they made a lot of the pacific coastals a specialty cruise. I don't want to pay final payment and then find the cruise i am attending is a harry potter themed cruise for example.

Are specialty restaurants on holland america worth it?
latebuyer replied to latebuyer's topic in Holland America Line
Thanks everyone and Crystal for posting prices. I forgot how expensive the dinner prices are for these specialty restaurants. I think i'm better off skipping the cruise and going to a nice dinner in Seattle but i'll think about whether i just want to go on the cruise and go to the mdr. As a canadian the dinners are even more expensive. -
Thanks everyone. It seems like most people think Celebrity and Princess are similar so i am inclined to choose the princess cruise which is cheaper and has a better itinerary. However, if hell freezes over and they offer no single supplement on the celebrity cruise, i would jump on it.

For the price of a mid aft inside cabin on princess for a 7 night cruise in the spring, i can go on an ocean view midship 6 night cruise on celebrity. I thought if food was better or substantial differences i'd go for celebrity. However, given itinerary is better on princess i am inclined to go with them. I know the inside rooms on princess aren't nice and i did really like my little couch on royal caribbean but oh well. Some people seem to think the cabins on princess are well designed. I'll think about it though as the fall is supposed to be a less rough time for the pacific coastals.
