Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) –
Very quiet with almost no foot traffic

Was wind a problem? - No. Not even a breeze, due to the structure of the balcony.
Any other comments? -

We loved 1700 had that cabin on Freedom then on Liberty, wanted to get 1700 when we booked Independence but could not

We flew Southwest from Milwaukee to Ft.Lauderdale we got to the airport the standard 2 hours before our flight, because of my wifes disabilty we passed through the long lines at security, and got through security in about 5 mins vs a 45 min wait, got to the gate, my wife transferred to a manual wheelchair and her Jazzy Scooter had dry cell batteries so no issue, I just switched the power below off, so that the scooter could be manually pushed by the staff to the plane hold.
When we got to Ft.Lauderdale we waited about 10 minutes by the gate for them to bring the scooter to the gate. not a problem.

HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE CABIN REVIEW
Ship -INDEPENDENCE OF THE SEAS
Deck - 10
Stateroom # - 1628/1328 Both ACCESSIBLE JR. SUITES
In laws had cabin 1328, mother in law rented a scooter with RC
We had cabin 1628 my wife brought her own scooter.
Stateroom Category – ACCESSIBLE JR. SUITE 1628
Starboard or Port Side - PORT SIDE
Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – very quiet, very peaceful, no noise coming from hallway
Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - Yes, but did not use
Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – large balcony, with metal ramp for wheelchair or scooter to access balcony, no obstructions, except for the clouds obstructing the sun :)
Normal or oversized for class? - Normal Door to cabin was bigger than normal to fit wheelchair or scooter, no problems with access to bathroom
Was wind a problem? - not an issue
Any specific problems with this cabin? - The only thing we had an issue was the rarity of power outlets, my wife brought her own scooter and needed to be charged, so did our other electrical devices, I-phone, go-pro, cameras etc, bring a power strip would be my recommendation
Any other comments? - If you are disabled the Freedom Class Accessible cabins 1628 or 1328 are very close to the aft elevators, only downside was navigating through the casino with a scooter.

We really liked Hyatt Pier 66, very nice hotel, nice pool, lawn games, friendly staff, top floor is a 360 view of the port and Ft. Lauderdale. right next to the intercoastal

The next generation of "cruise ships" will include excursions on Mars, the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, and skiing on Pluto.
Internet package might be a little steep as light travels 9 hour one way to Pluto.
Balcony suites awesome view.

We booked at 5:15pm flight after the cruise, friends of ours booked the 12:40pm flight and almost missed the flight due to customs delay, at the port.
get off the ship ASAP if you're going to book an early flight
-
Both my wife and mother in law have electric scooters we visited Falmouth on Feb 11th we did not book an excursion, not much to see really, went around the port shops and bought some stuff and then went back to the ship

As people with disabilities I imagine we are much like the able bodied population in being the full spectrum of behaviors and attitudes. If you notice some of the things the AB folks go through for inspection you will not feel singled out or so offended. In the OPs case, I understand that you feel protective of your wife but try to understand that the security staff dies not know her and has guidelines to follow. The more cooperative you are the better it goes, especially if they are over zealous!
what occured on coming back onto the ship was not professional, plain and simple. This security guard went over the top was rude, unprofessional period!!, as I stated before I am all for security but when security crosses the line then they need to be held accountable, this is what happened in this case.
-
I am all for security checks, however the amount of disrespect this Royal Caribbean security member gave to my wife was offensive (Jamaica security just did a once over on my wife no touching, looked over her scooter and said have a nice day maam, and then proceeded to the ship).
My wife had to get off her scooter and walk up the gangplank, with a member of security helping her to the ship. this was because the scooter had to be manually moved onto the gangplank for the wheels to catch, my wife is unstable(LOL)anyway,,:) she staggered up the gangplank which probably caught the attention of the security person, it was stated not once, not twice but six times that the reason for her unstable walking was due to a STROKE, a reasonable search would of then of proceeded, but the woman was rude, plain and simple, far beyond a security check, maybe this crewmember was new, my complaint is not over getting a refund or credit of some sort. it is to have security staff be properly trained, maybe procedures for screening disabled passengers need to be reviewed, further training etc,
As I posted earlier this security was far more than what we received at the airport or getting on the ship as we boarded on the first day, As for getting back on the ship from Jamaica other disabled passengers with scooters passed us with far less attention than did my wife..
-
This was ship security, we passed Jamaica security just fine
-
Anyone run into this issue? We were on Independence of the Seas and as we were returning to the ship in Jamaica, my wife who has had strokes that affect her balance and speech, thus need for a scooter, got checked by security that was over the top, they questioned why she was unstable both my father in law and I both said because of strokes, they continued searching her, even questioning what was those two boxes were under her scooter(they were the two batteries) wiped her scooter twice and searched her twice, very disrespectful treatment, went to guest relations to complain, on the day it happened, no follow up from them, called Royal Caribbean today to complain about her treatment. I am all for reasonable searches, but this went to far, far more involved than the security check at the airport or as we boarded the ship on Monday.

Accidents happen everywhere, you could get in a car wreck in Fond du Lac or Miami,

The next cruise on Independence is
70000 tons of Metal
maybe one of the headbangers got sick

A BAD vacation day is still better than a GOOD day at work

When we went to St.Martin, on Liberty of the Seas, we went to Pinel Island, a tiny island on the north end of St. Martin, we worked with a taxi driver and he dropped us off on the French side, and made arrangements with him to pick us up at 3pm. Pinel island is 5 minutes off the shores of French Cul de Sac The end of the road at French Cul de Sac opens onto a wide sandy area where visitors find "the ferry station", a dock, parking and a shack that rents out Kayaks. small ferry boats are waiting there to run you over to Pinel for a fee of $7-8 dollars. We enjoyed snorkeling swimming and relaxing on the beach, well worth the trip to the other side where hardly any cruise passengers go,

We loved cabin 1700 on Freedom so much we booked it for Liberty, would of booked 1700 on Independence but health issue with wife stroke she needs an electric scooter to get around, door on 1700 is not wide enough for a scooter, so we booked the accessible stateroom 1628 on Independence.
besides having a post in the room for ship support it was never in the way the post was located near the corner of the bed, the balcony was awesome!!
-
Have had aft corner cabin 1700 on Freedom then on Liberty not a sound coming from above, would of booked 1700 on this next cruise but was not available this time.

Short time viewer of this board, first time poster.
It saddens me to see the narrow field of vision some cruisers have. There is more to the world than how fine the sand of a beach is, or your OBC getting refunded. While we (most of us, Americans) have been so astronomically lucky to have been born in a country where upward economic mobility and a high standard of living are fairly common. Let's not forget that 1/3 of the global population lives in extreme poverty (less than $2/day). Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas. The bottom 90% of the country is included in this 1/3 of the global population living on less than $2/day. That's 90% of a country struggling constantly to survive. The US has played a large part in preventing them from real and radical change. These protests ARE the way to change for that 90%. I hope it serves them well. Included in my post is a documentary about where the unrest comes from. And please realize that life is really really hard, and really really unfair for a lot of people. So before calling them stupid or disruptive, please take a look at the bigger picture here.
People don't get what they deserve, people get what they get.
Very good post, I keep telling people that where we live Wisconsin we have our drinking water come from Lake Michigan, which represents 1% of the clean drinkable water and that we are lucky to be near that resource.

If they send us to Belize, All I can think of is Breaking Bad when Saul Goodman tells Walter White to send a guy to Belize(have him killed). I recall the government of Belize responded by saying Belize is a great place to visit..
Better Call Saul

I was told today by an RCL agent that most ships (including the Indy which I'm going on next month) will be going to Belize. Hopefully, this mess will be settled soon. Belize and Falmouth are my least favourite ports so I was hoping for at least one where we could have a nice beach day.
Which sail date?? we are going on Feb 8th

No charge for lunch at Labadee, so feel free to eat up, We have been to Labadee 3 times and our next cruise in Feb 2016 will be our 4th, we are buying our own beach mats and going snorkeling, we are also renting out one of the cabanas, we do not spend any money on that day, I might buy via seapass some beer because it will be my birthday that day we are at Labadee

Our son who will turn 20 next month has been on 4 cruises with us Our first cruise was when he was 7, on Enchantment of the Seas he had a blast with the Adventure Ocean kids program Pirate night etc, We booked our cruises right after X-mas during the first week in January and there where a good amount of kids on board, lots of activities. The next cruise the following year was on Voyager of the seas and one of the crew members who worked with Adventure Ocean remembered our son, from the previous year, very nice. Our next two sailing where on Freedom and Liberty, on Freedom he was in the teenage age range he was 12 and on Liberty he was 14 and each time he had a blast, who wouldn't being on the largest cruise ship in the world at that time and being out of school also. We are sailing in Feb 8 on Independence and sine he is 20 he has aged out of the kids program, but will do his own things, So do not worry your kids will love it. rock climbing, florider, ice skating etc etc.

Thumbnail does't show the location very well, it is located just northeast of the zipline starts the area where you see the whitecaps by the shore is where the "visible"shipwreck is
-
Having been to Labadee 3 times, We love it, We are going back in Feb 2016 on Independence of the Seas. I was exploring Labadee via Google Earth and found a visible shipwreck not to far from the north beach of Labadee about equal to the start of the zipline, has anyone ventured to this spot or is it even accessable
Here on Google Earth it is the blue I north of the zipline area
