  3. Our transfer coach is down as leaving Manchester at 10:00 am, sounds late to me but PO advise correct . 233 miles = 5 hours at 50 mph not include stop....

We are on the first coach at 8.30 and they leave every half hour. This would put you on the fourth coach, there may even be one after you.

  4. Left about 1345ish was told 1300hrs in the cruise personaliser, still a few hundred people waiting when we left.

Oh thats not good would have thought they would want to leave on time.

Glad you are on your way now, hopefully you will soon be there.

    Have a good cruise !

  5. All I would say is hopefully it would be better organised than gatwick! We are on the coach as I type but make sure you ask what system they are using because this sticker lark with reps just walking around hundreds of people without even mentioning you need one just don't work!!!!

Thanks but I do believe they use this sticker system at all the airport pickups 😟

Just out of interest what time coach were you on and how late did it leave ?

  6. Oh dear ! This is what I feared may happen with our transfer next Friday from Manchester Airport. We are given no information about what happens when we arrive there. All I know is the coaches set off about an hour and a half later now.

Hope everything is sorted out and you are soon on your way.

  7. I might come across rude here but it seems to me that every time we go the check in staff seem to be getting more mature.

I thought this too but didn't want to appear ageist 😉

I am no spring chicken but they all seem a fair bit older than me. I expect they are all part time and only called upon when needed. Maybe their wages top up their pension 😉

  8. The mother of a friend of mine works part time in the Terminals and she is definitely employed by the Port Authority, not the cruise lines. She has told stories of how rude some passengers can be!

Yes, they are employed by the port authority but P&O pay them for their services. P&O are their customer so should expect a certain level of service.

  9. Oh dear ! Communication is not one of P&Os strengths is it ?😞

I am still waiting on the promised communication to passengers re the change in coach time pick ups for everyone. We leave on 30th of this month and still nothing 😕

Should have realised we can't rely on the information on their website. That is why these boards are so helpful 😊

  10. My final word on this subject. Further extracts from Christopher Edgingtons statement:-

"I know from speaking with many of you that you like to arrive early or travel arrangements mean you have to arrive early and you can continue to do so."

"In the past it has not been unusual for some people to arrive up to seven hours earlier than invited, and whilst we will continue to check-in and embark these guests early, it would be unfair for those who arrive at the time we ask, to be put to the back of the queue."

So we can still arrive early if we have to, we will just need to wait longer, but not necessarily until our allocated boarding time.

I hope you all enjoy your cruises, I know I will 😊

  12. I have already posted this on the "Caribbean Tier" thread and referred to it on this thread but no one has commented so I can only assume none bothers to read my posts.....:( as i thought it might help....? And stop Caribbean tier members moaning...? Hasn't worked so far....

It is obvious that PandO are updating their FAQ's at the moment. I know this refers to Britannia but would assume it applies to other ships too.

I don't know if this muddies or clarifies the issue for Caribbean members but have just read this on P & Os FAQ.....

    Q. What are Britannia's new embarkation timings?

    A. We ask that passengers adhere to the check-in times provided on your E-Ticket to ensure a smooth boarding process. We are pleased to confirm that members of the Caribbean, Baltic and Ligurian tiers of our Peninsular Club and Suite passengers have the benefit of priority or early embarkation and are welcome to check-in from when the desk opens, you will then be boarded at the earliest opportunity.

To me this would suggest that you can still arrive and board early

I agree, it looks as though Caribbean + still get "early embarkation". I would imagine this applies to all ships. If checkin opens at 12.45 then they should be on around 1pm. Its the rest of us that are stuck with the late embarkation times 😢

  13. Most things that upset passengers are usually started by cost cutting. Someone will have worked it out that by starting later staff at check in will be paid less ... Fewer people on the ship for lunch ... Save .. Save ... Passengers buying more refreshments in the terminal ... Someone will have added the pennies up to make pounds .... We have Caribbean loyalty tier but have done our last cruise with P&O. This embarkation nonsense just shows the company in yet another poor light. I'm surprised they haven't started sailing so late no one has to board until the restaurants have closed. Better not give them any more ideas.

I think you are correct about costcutting. P&O are unlikely to have changed to a process that would cost them more money 😉

  14. Just found this on P&O website FAQs. Don't remember seeing this last time I looked.

"Your check in time is stated on your ticket and you should aim to check in as close as possible to that time.

We stagger check in for all guests to ease congestion at the terminal and surrounding roads, however unavoidable circumstances sometimes happen and you may find that you are at the terminal earlier or later than your stated check in time.

"Whilst arriving early is not an issue as there is seating and refreshment areas at the terminals we would like to remind you that you may have to wait and that luggage processing will not start until 11am, with check-in opening at 12.45pm.

Arriving later than planned may be a problem, depending on how late you are, however as a general rule, you should aim to arrive by 2.30pm for Adonia, 3.00pm for Aurora, Oriana, Oceana, Arcadia and 3.30pm at the latest for cruises on Britannia, Azura & Ventura.

All guests must be on board at least an hour before the cruise departs."

So checkin doesn't open till 12.45 now and they say latest time to arrive is 3.30 for Britannia, Azura & Ventura. This seems to contradict the times they have been giving people 😕

  15. Nobody complained about P&Os old system which is why we can't understand why they changed it. It has worked for many years with large ships like Ventura and Azura.

RCI and Celebrity start boarding much earlier than P&O do which is why I think they are no complaints from their passengers as they are all on board at a reasonable time.

I don't think people would be complaining so much about P&Os new system if they started boarding earlier so everyone is on board earlier. I think its the fact that many people are being given such late boarding times rather than the fact P&O are trying to enforce times.

  16. An increase in ship tours might account for the checkin desks opening later too. I imagine ship tours are quite lucrative at £25 a head. They certainly wouldn't admit this is the reason they are making their passengers wait till later to board.

I think its time they came clean about the reason for the changes, I don't believe its because passengers have said they want their cabins ready on boarding and if it is perhaps they could tell us how they know this.

  17. Select fares should have first choice of checkin time because they have paid more than savers who by definition have booked last minute. Choosing your boarding time should be a "select benefit" just as choosing your cabin and dining time is. P&O hinted at this last year when they announced other changes they were making.

Caribbean + should then be given priority in the way they were before so they have priority over savers. If you want more choice over checkin time then you can always book a select fare too.
