Inconvenienced a day or 2? So far Carnival customer service is stating the cruise will be shortened, no idea how long yet or just canceled. Vacationers have travel plans that just can't change on a whim. It's beyond our control. This is more than a day or 2 inconvenience. Our vacation that has been planned for months is now on hold, no idea when we'll leave or if we will ever leave. They are telling customers to "just cancel" if you call their customer service, no info is available and the cruise is less than a week away.....DISAPPOINTING!

If they shorten the cruise a day or two, you'll be reimbursed for those one or two days. If the cruise is cancelled, then you'll get your money back. If you are going to incur other out-of-pocket expenses, well that's what travel insurance is for.

I understand that people are going to be upset they may not get the vacation they were hoping for, but getting all their money back means they can plan a different vacation.

Well we did buy travel insurance but even without it that's not right if carnival were to not give people's money back for excursions. Even though they always do.

When I said a full refund for the cruise, I was including excursions if they were booked through Carnival. Outside bookings may or may not be reimbursed. That's up to Carnival and whatever their policy will be.

There's a huge difference between bunker oil and natural gas.

The physical properties are different, but both fuels act the same when vaporized and burned as a fuel in the engine; suck, squeeze, bang, blow.

Unless they've figured out how to make an LNG jet engine that fuel efficient at sea level (they haven't), the engines on the Mardi Gras will not be significantly different from those on any other ship the Engineers have worked on. 13 years of sea time in the Navy and I've got a ton of experience in the subject.

More than one of two days... Especially if it's cancelled I'm pretty sure it's a possibility.

If it's cancelled, then you will get a full refund of your cruise, as the Manager mentioned.

If you are out-of-pocket for other expenses, this is why you buy travel insurance.

Not to be a smart alec but based on your reply, I'm going to assume you've never heard the expression "If things go wrong, they will."  I highly doubt that they have tens of thousands of hours working with the new Liquid Natural gas engines as they are relatively new and a first for Carnival.

It's their experience that counts when dealing with snags and it's not like they're going from steam to Dilithium crystals; LNG works on the same principals as a gas engine (it is a gas, after all). It's only the fuel source that's different.

I didn't blame Carnival or the port. I said I'm hesitant to book another cruise. We don't know when there could be computer problems again at any port with any line.

Better not leave your house ever again then. You never know when there could be a computer issue with traffic lights or your grocery scanner that will cause you hours of delay.

This is crazy. This cruise was also fully booked so there are many disappointed people such as me and you. They are about to make people switch to Royal Caribbean. They better give a very good compensation. Hopefully %100 cruise credit for future cruises with Carnival. No matter how many days it is.

You're not going to get a free cruise just because you were inconvenienced for one or two days. That's not how any of this works.

I agree but they will be familiar with it working correctly.  The first time something goes wrong with it, that's when they need to start scratching their heads to figure out how to fix it.  And we all know that just because "The Book" says to do this, doesn't mean that it will correct it.

Based on your replies, I'm going to assume you don't have any experience in marine engineering; they will have had many, many hours of maintenance training with the plant and will be extremely familiar with it before they sail. I would have no concerns with them being able to fix an issue if one should come up, as the Engineering team probably have tens of thousands of hours working in a marine environment in order to get where they are in their careers.

This process and the quick pass through of having your passport picture show up on the iPad are ingenious and have made check in a total breeze. We have literally gone from the car to the cabin in 45 minutes thanks to these changes. Once, we went from the terminal to our cabin in about 20 mins.  This has been in Galveston and during busy peak times and other times that were off peak. Most recently, spring break, my son and I spent about 30 minutes after being dropped off and we were in our cabin.

I'm going to assume the iPad check-in doesn't work for foreign passengers.

I would hate to be the Chief Engineer on a ship that has a completely new propulsion system.  If something were to go wrong, it's his responsibility to find out a way to correct it.  Hope his crew will be top notched too.

The Engineers have probably been with the ship since the plant was installed, so they will definitely have familiarity with it and the systems attached to it.

I'm super curious who receives that 18% fee.

I would imagine it's no different than the other onboard gratuities; 18% for your room, 18% for the drinks, 18% for the Fun Shop delivery, etc.

Wait for the 18% on the pizza delivery, coming to a cruise ship near you.

Am I wrong to not expect a delivery fee on something delivered to our room?? Especially $50 damn dollars!

Yes, you are wrong. That $49.50 is the 18% delivery fee which is added to every purchase from the Fun Shop and is clearly outlined on the Fun Shop FAQ, so it shouldn't be a surprise. You also had the option to cancel the pending order before placing it and agreeing to the purchase.

  13. From what I understand, the new straws they have are sugar straws which are edible. They've been using them on select ships as a trial and they were apparently accepted quite well by the passengers, so that's a good sign.

I'll be bringing a couple of plastic straws and a straw cleaner when we sail. I don't mind doing some dishes back in the room at the end of the day and it only takes 5 minutes.

The most important aspect of it to me is early check in, boarding, and cabin availability.

This will probably be our one and only cruise so we're looking to do it right and getting FTTF for essentially the same reason you get it (early boarding, cabin avail, etc). With any luck, it'll become avail and we'll be able to get it.
