  1. Not yet, it's on my list of to-dos. Only issue is I like the fun-factor of RCCL ships, where as Celebrity are a bit more grown-up. I'd rather ice-skating rinks and rock climbing walls than cooking lessons and bowling greens.

I hear that. My upcoming Oasis cruise in October will be my first on RCI. I've done a couple on Celebrity and love the service, style, and food. I know things will be different on RCI so I am adjusting my expectations accordingly. But should you ever try Celebrity they do a top-notch job.

  2. I think, personally, as much as I love all the different classes of ship that RCCL offer, I'd gladly trade in all the Vision & Sovereign Class ships to have RCCL develop a newer smaller class ship.

Something circa 100,000GT, lots of glass, sleek design. Something like a hybrid of the Radiance & Quantum class. High tech, all the latest design and gadgets, but in a format that can dock in interesting places, go through all the canals - and preferably run on environmentally friendly(er) fuels like LNG/LPG.

For those of you who feel similar to TheGinBoy, have you thought about, or tried, the Solstice Class ships on Celebrity? I think you may like those...

  3. However, no matter what shows that may be selected to replace them or to feature on another ship, there will be some who feel the decision was ill-considered while others will applaud the decision. Some may even book or cancel their booking based on the show being staged.

Ship-friendly shows may be in the eyes of the beholder and what you or I might consider "ship-friendly" or "fun", someone else might consider to be sophomoric. Tastes among the wide range of passengers who sail with Royal Caribbean so it is unlikely that there will ever be universal approval of whatever decision is made.

    .

Yes, this is precisely why I am asking this question. I am curious to know what people would like to see, be it the shows already being produced or others. If we all had the same taste and all were completely in 100% agreement with the choice of "Cats" and "Chicago" then the point of even asking this question would certainly be moot.

  4. I've read a lot about "Cats" and "Chicago" not being ideal or even necessary. If a Broadway or Broadway-esque show were to be on the high seas, what would you like to see? Though I am not familiar with "Chicago" aside from the movie, I have to say "Cats" does not seem to me to be a very cruise-shippy type experience.

I don't know what it takes to obtain the rights to perform any given play but it seems like there are more that would seem better fits for a cruise-ship vacation and cruisers/people on vacation who want to have a fun time such as "The Who's Tommy", "Jersey Boys", "Wicked", "Victor/Victoria", "The Producers", and "Spamalot" to name just a few.

What big productions would you prefer to see over "Cats" and "Chicago"?

  5. Why should anyone want to have a ship retired? If you don't care for a particular ship, for whatever reason, you don't have to book it. I don't feel the need to take anyone else's preferences and choices away from them.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. This is hypothetical. No one is really taking anyone's preferences or choices away from them by merely asking a question.

  6. What I would like to see is someone come up with suggestions that not only would be a benefit to the customer, but also with keeping in mind that Celebrity is in the business of making money. So many of these threads just become a wish list without any thought of whether it's fiscally feasible for the company.

Well, my thinking when I originally posted this question was more on the lines of 'if you can go anywhere, where would you go?' My personal answer to that question would certainly be out of my personal budget but it is still fun to think about. 'Fiscally feasible' or not, it's still fun to fantasize and ponder, and the question 'If you could design a Celebrity Ship as long as it is fiscally feasible, how would you do it?' just wouldn't be as amusing, in my opinion at least.

  7. I've done HAL, Princess, NCL, and X. By far Celebrity is my favorite. It, in my opinion, has the perfect balance of everything my DW and I look for on a cruise. I cant imagine ever paying a dime for NCL again (terrible, and I am not a picky or hard-to-please person! honest!), HAL is very sedate but I would sail them on a good itinerary, Princess just seemed kind of bland, not bad, but nothing that stood out. Celebrity, at least based on my two experiences with them (most recently on the Solstice) just gets everything right. They have the perfect balance of activities, food, experiences, their ships are beautiful and the rooms are as comfortable as ever. We are booked on the October TA of the Equinox, simply to be on this S class ship!

That being said, I am thinking of sailing with my kids, 11 and 8, but would most likely choose RCCL because of the activities and design being more in tune with what they would want. Though I am sure they would love a cruise on Celebrity I think they would have more fun on RCCL. (At least based on what I've read and researched about them, haven't ever been on them). But if you are sailing without young kids Celebrity is the only way to go!!

  8. I'm curious what your favorite aspects of Celebrity are from their ships both past and present? Let's say we could put one together, how would you do it? What size would you want it to be? What restaurants would you like to see on it? What activities? More bars? An onboard museum?

Me, I would like to see the Molecular Bar, some sort of contract with a major museum (say the New York Museum of Natural History, or MOMA) for onboard exhibits, let's cut out AQ altogether and make every cabin (even the insides) feature the nice showers and linens, I'd like the ship to be right around 100,000 tons, an indoor aviary, lazy river...
