people were giving their thoughts about the meaning of the poem and nobody was even close.

I think this is what all talented artists experience.

I am no artist, but love art.  If the meaning is clear to everyone, it is science or engineering, which is what I was.

But I think how wonderful it must be to create something that fires people's imaginations in so many different ways.

Echoing @MJSailors that I hope your poem is selected.

  2. Agree with the above.  The little tram runs around the island constantly, get on - get off as you please, no one cares about suite, etc..  You do have to walk some distance from the ship to where it starts.  Wheelchairs were being used across that walk.   Didn't see any of that seaweed at Labadee when we were there, but maybe we were lucky.

don't forget to mention just how hot that sand gets walking on your bare feet.

The last 5 years of my work life, I taught High School chemistry at our local HS.  Used this exact observation to explain the concept of specific heat capacity (turns out sand has a very low heat capacity, so it heats up way quicker in the sun than other materials, except metals some of which are actually worse)

Will we end up paying more even with the offered discount?

We are in similar circumstances and this is the big question at the moment.  The eventual answer will tell us much about the business ethics of Silversea.

I trust them, we have 2 previous cruises with Silversea and felt it would be our line of choice for the years ahead.  But now, we are (like you) waiting to hear.

nothing but sexual exploits. The show has really taken a poor turn

    I totally sympathize.

We were so enjoying Ted Lasso, then a couple episodes were just disgusting.  Ended up feeling embarrased I recommended the show to my (all grown) kids.  Why?

    (Not for soda anyway).

I think the calling soda Coke is somehow related to the geographic distance from Atlanta GA.  Lived in Georgia for a few years, and agree with you there.

But, as lovely Lois points out, many southerners say soda for a carbonated drink.

My wife, rural Virginia born and bred, says soda also.

My tar heel father said Pepsi until the voice on the other end asked if coke was ok.

But, I loved my visits to Alabama, Florence, Muscle Shoals, Huntsville.  So I must ask (even if off topic), do you like kale when prepared properly @DRK0312 ?

Is Silversea refunding the $500-$800 airline cancellation or change fee?

Relevant quote from the email is below:

*For those guests with independent air arrangements, Silversea will reimburse costs of up to USD 500 per guest for any change, cancellation, or differential air travel fees. To request an adjustment, guests should email receipts to guestrelations@silversea.com. Refunds and claims will be reviewed and processed within 30 days of receipt.

I am surprised no other person on that cancelled cruise has chimed in

Our Dawn cruise from Barcelona to Rome immediately after yours has just today been cancelled.  The email states this was "Due to unforeseen logistical and operational changes..."

I think we received basically the same offer you did.  I feel what was missing was an offer to rebook a similar cruise for the same price as shown on our so-called "Confirmation".

We booked directly with Silversea.  I have sent them an email requesting a quotation for a similar cruise in the same area.  In our case the trip is not time constrained as was yours.

  9. We loved our Alaska cruise on the Muse.  I think its going to depend on what you want from your cruise.  Others more experienced than I will likely offer guidance here.  Regardless welcome to Silversea!

  10. No, not expecting too much.  It is a luxury cruise line and normally executes as one (or they'd have gone out of business long ago).

We also have never had an experience like yours, but you did.

Yeah.  We spoke to them about how long it was taking after like 30 minutes after the apps.    They apologized, but it still took longer.

Still can't imagine an hour and a half longer!

Was hoping they would have crab legs and oysters on the menu.  Never saw them except in Indochine, where the crab legs were doused in a sweet sticky sauce one night.

Wouldn't expect oysters in Alaska, but I would expect crab.  Were there crabmeat options apart from crab legs?  I think you could have ordered the crab legs without sauce if that's how you wanted them.
