Disney announced that to keep your status you will have to cruise every 5 years.  If that catches the wind I could see other cruise lines following suite, if only for upper tiers.  Alternatively, Princess continues to water down benefits, so that's another way for them to cut costs I suppose.

MSC's been doing it for a while now (3 years is their cut-off). Not a very evidently popular concept.

  2. With Carnival Corp still $30B in debt and Princess (and its sister lines) clearly going hard for new cruisers, I would find it hard to believe that they would consider actively investing in a revamp of the loyalty program any time soon. Loyalty programs are always designed with the corporation in mind; we need to let go of the illusion and just vote with our wallets.

    CHANGE NOTES:

    - New addition: I've added a date under each ship's name to reflect the age of the most recent photo of the board of officers that we have on file here on CC (that I personally know of, as corrections are always welcome). It will hopefully better inform those who are seeking out recent updates whether we are actually in need of a new photo and/or new names. Photos from several months prior should be viewed with hesitation with regards to accuracy. Regular contributions of updates are always welcome.

    - Enchanted Princess updates (ED has changed from Madison Adams to Frenchie Desbuquois) per @hllwdcruiser and their generous review of the December 8, 2023 voyage. The following photo is attached from their report:

  5. Yep, for the theatre, they fly in comedians, musicians (soloists or groups), and illusionists/magicians, along with the 3 production shows from the production cast onboard. You could also have some of the guest entertainers in the lounges and bars switch out mid-way (like a new violin duo, new guitarist, etc).

    Yes, contracts are 18 months.

They don't hire a lot of new people either.

Casts for the first year after the return to sailing, all had previous experience on Princess, had their training in the ship after quarantine.

Yep yep, I wasn't aware of all the specific details but this was my conclusion from what I've gleaned as well. Thank you for corroborating.

Wonder why the three ships should have the same 3 shows? Do believe in the past they did not do that for the newest ships.

I don't think it's a new thing. They've been doing it for a while where they introduce new shows onto three ships as a trio (like Magic To Do on Crown, Emerald, and Ruby).

My logic is, from a PR standpoint, they can say that they're giving cruisers more chances to see something new and also give them a fresh reason to want to go on these ships. But from a logistical standpoint, I'm pretty sure it streamlines recruiting, training, and production costs, so by organizing the contracts for the cast members this way, it should also reduce the expenditures that the entertainment division will undertake for the company.

  9. Note that Enchanted/Sky/Discovery will all have the same production shows (Princess set them up that way) and the casts often run a triple-ship contract that covers all 3 (in addition to Jim Henson's Inspired Silliness in the Vista Lounge). It'll likely be many years before a new show appears on those 3 because they're the 3 newest ships with the 3 newest theatre production shows in the fleet right now.

As for the Caribbean Princess, I believe you'll have at least some or all of these four: Bravo, Broadway Ballroom, Born to Be Wild, and Fantastic Journey.

Yes, the Caribbean is not scheduled to visit Victoria. But the Coral will - on the 11-day Coastal RT Vancouver leaving on September 24, 2025 and the 7-day Coastal LA to Vancouver leaving on April 20, 2026.

Is it worth paying the extra for speciality dining on MSC and if so does it feel quite upscale?

Very debatable. I think you could run into a really bogged down restaurant and have a long slog to get your food out, which could ruin your experience and make it less upscale. Or you could have a smooth time, which would then justify your cost. I think the vibe of the restaurant and where you're seated can affect a lot about how you feel about the dining -- for example, if you're seated along the Galleria outside of Butcher's Cut, the fact that that's also a thoroughfare for people would not make your dinner an intimate one. But maybe you enjoy people watching, and so thus, it's a nice change of pace for specialty dining. As for the food itself, I'm not a picky eater, so I've never felt like the specialty was so, so much better than in the MDR, but I appreciated what I wouldn't have gotten elsewhere onboard.

I want to make sure that you also understand that if you buy a specialty dining package with MSC, you will only be allowed to choose from a specific menu within those specialty restaurants. Or you can pay a reduced fee (50%?) for an entree that's not on the specific menu but is instead, on the a la carte menu. Perhaps this may be an annoying thing for you so then you would rather just pay a la carte like you would in general. Or it might not be that much of a detraction. Therefore, I suggest that you just look up the menus online and see how you feel. Your experiences may vary.

    The Royal Silk

The Secret Silk* - and Royal happens to be one of the ships on which it's being performed, along with Diamond and Island, I believe.

When I read the question, I also thought of that show as well as Spotlight Bar and 5-SKIES (both on Discovery, Enchanted, Sky), which both claim to have a story as well. But there is simply not enough time in the schedule for these shows to have fully developed plots.

5-SKIES and The Secret Silk probably have the most exposition and dialogue, but no matter the case, any of the three shows that have a "plot" tell much of the story through the music. Don't expect lengthy monologues; expect high-energy numbers or high-emotion ballads to move the story along.

  15. Yes, Jordan's back home because her grandmother has passed. You can read her tribute here. Considering the passion for her job and her inability to be still, as she likes to describe it, she definitely wouldn't have just up and left her contract for much else.

I have to agree with @SG65CB. It's not a conventional way of choosing a cruise vacation, but it's as legitimate as any other "unconventional" reason to pick a vacation. Sometimes, you just want to see something in particular (take the Baths on Virgin Gorda) and you want the cruise as well (which is scheduled to visit Tortola),...and then the weather prevents it from happening and you lose the experience. But it's OK; it just means you have to come back.

OP, I'm sorry that your cruise isn't panning out as you originally hoped it would for you and your daughter, but as parents, we often bend our backs for the kiddos, and I hope you and her can still have a memorable experience together onboard, regardless of these circumstances. Please take care.

Do Princess production shows tell a story?

Most do not. Those that do also follow a story that's more loosely strung than what you would prefer if you're strongly into Broadway productions. We won't know what you'll really feel after you watch some of them, but "glorified karaoke" could very well be one of your conclusions (I don't really feel that way about them, but that's just me).

I won't lead you to them from here, but you can find clips and recordings of Princess production shows on the internet, and they will give you a taste.

    CHANGE NOTES:

    - Added highlighting to the instructions at the top to make it clear that they should always be copied and pasted.

    - Amended the hyperlinks for Diamond's captain and CDs to direct to specific posts instead of just their account pages.

    - Amended the formatting of Island's captain slot with Marco Cataldi's hyperlink and retained Paul Slight's name.

    - Added Captain Vincenzo Lembo's preferred name of "Renzo".

    - Added a link to Captain Christopher Lye's timeline as per a post from September 2023.

    - I've also revised the table's overall font size one point lower in an attempt to make it more accessible on mobile browsers. Again, another work in progress.

There was this stray couch in the corridor outside the mockup rooms - where would that go do you think?

This really did pique my interest. Alas, we may not know until she debuts. A long stool really doesn't feel the same as the couch lol. I do think the long stool is likely what we will get for, at least the 4-bed cabins, due to the ladder, as you've said. I couldn't imagine them exchanging the furniture out regularly.

Very interesting how the two renderings of The Promenade differ. Wondering what else we've seen that is likely to have these stylistic differences from the renderings we have been shown.
