I ordered the Eggs Benedict each time I went to the brunch.  The day before, I had it when the brunch wasn't on.  The hollandaise sauce was very flavorful and had an extra zing to it.  The following day, the day of the brunch, it tasted bland.  The next day I ordered it again and the flavor was similar to that of the first day.  I could only assume that the chef who made them was off the first day of the brunch.  I prefer savory breakfasts over sweet ones but nothing else appealed to me.  I also ordered a side of fruit and the parfait with granola and it was very good.  I found myself eating at Central Park Restaurant (where breakfast was served every morning) because my 85-year-old best friend likes to be served breakfast instead of going to the buffet and doesn't like to eat by herself.

One thing about MSC, they are consistently inconsistent!  They keep us on our toes wondering if what we order one day (and like) will be the same the next time!

Saw a plate piled high with iced donuts on a table in an MDR at breakfast not touched!!!!  (Also lots of other items left on plates, too 😌)

Well dang it!  We had them on the Mera and Divina but not on Seashore.  Going Thanksgiving week on Seashore (YC) so we shall see if they make an appearance.

Yep - glad I did.  I was expecting different.  Silly me. 🤣🤣🤣 As a veteran MSC cruiser I should keep expectations low enough to give them a fair chance to exceed them. 🙈

This was my 3rd with MSC so I get keeping the expectations low!  Guess that's why I was so blown away with how good this was.  On another note, I was disappointed in not having donuts at any point.  Past cruises they had donuts that were pretty decent.  Had them all talked up with my mom and, nope, nowhere.

Oh wow, nothing like what we received!  Wish I had taken a picture so that I could share.

Hope it’s better than what I had.  Mine was dense and dry.

Oh no.  Mom and I had it both sea days on the Seashore in April.  Both times were fresh, moist, and full of fresh berries.

I suspect the typical YC maître d' would be mortified at the thought of losing breakfast traffic to the MDR. I'd wager an offer would be made to prepare a brunch menu item in the YC, if I mentioned we would be trying the MDR brunch the next day.

However, on the World ships, I daresay the possible reduction of YC breakfast traffic on sea days would be welcome.

I'm definitely going to ask for the strawberry shortcake when we do YC in November (if it isn't already a breakfast/brunch option).

I've brought a pool noodle on multiple cruises and never had a problem. I never tried to use it in the pool, only in the ocean. I think it might be difficult to use it in the pool since they are usually so busy/full of people.

Did you pack them in your suitcase?  When it came to taking them on and off the ship for ocean use can I assume you carried them at that point?  Thank you.

  8. I was on the Seashore last month.  It was the 1st week of starting the brunch.  First sea day was kinda chaotic, the staff was not expecting the amount of people that showed up.  Some orders were not complete.  But the items arrived.  Thankfully I packed my patience and all was well.  Food was hot and good.  I had an omelet, potatoes, bacon, and strawberry shortcake.  The 2nd sea day the staff seemed more organized and I didn't need to pull out my patience.  Another good meal with more shortcake.   The strawberry shortcake IMO was very good.  Fresh berries, shortcake was tasty, and the serving size was perfect.   We will be back on the Seashore over Thanksgiving in the YC.  I'm hoping they can get me some of that shortcake on sea days.  If not, I'm headed to the MDR!!

My experience has been that the fish like to hang out in and around the rocks.  I guess so they have places to hide.  The upside of this is that you don’t need to be in water that’s too deep.  So unless you are snorkeling with children, you should have no problem staying in water that isn’t deeper than your neck.  I can’t comment on flotation devices because I don’t know how well you and yours swim; if in doubt, you should wear them.  The ocean can be a dangerous place, even in shallow water.

I would also recommend that you get water shoes so that you don’t cut up your feet while standing on the rocky bottom.

    Hope this helps.

    Jim

Thank you very much, perfect answer!

I think it depends on where you snorkel. I can tell you we brought our own snorkels and went right by the lighthouse. It was amazing! Literally thousands of fish, it was so cool 🙂 You have to swim out a bit and get out to where it gets a little rocky, but there is for sure lots of interesting things to see.

How far out did you have to go?  Far enough to need flotation devices?  We are new to snorkeling and were hoping there are places not too far out.  Thank you.

Easy, leave Mom at your place.

My husband would have disagreed since she was at our house!

Is she double, triple, quadruple sure that the passport is home?

Could she have possibly packed it in her suitcase?

    Unfortunately yes.

Can an unforced error like this still be partially recouped with the cancel-for-any-reason provision of travel insurance?

    Possibly, I'm looking into it.

I believe I have read this has been done before, the copy/fax scenario. I’d definitely inquire either at port or via phone with customer service

I talked to 2 different customer service reps and believe it or not, I got the same answer from both reps.  They both said it would not be accepted at the port.  Problem lies also that she doesn't have anyone to access her safe where her documents are stored.

This is my worst fear...forgetting to pack my documents.  I'd ask at the pier if there is any recourse.  Can someone in NC get copies faxed or e-mailed?  Is that even an option?

    So sorry...

Nope, she lives alone.  I talked to customer service this morning (very nice person) and our options were to be considered no shows or I go alone.  I couldn't change her to my husband as departure was today.  She said we will get port fees and taxes refunded.

  16. Was headed to port this morning to get on the Seashore only to realize my mom (who lives in NC) forgot her passport and does not have her birth certificate with her.  So guess we won't be cruising this week.

I haven’t sailed in YC since they made the change, but it’s my understanding that they have a list of options (including a red and white wine) in the cabin and you just let your butler know what your choice is. Also, it’s not a 70cl bottle;  it’s a 35cl one IINM.

    Thank you!

The online process definitely needs work. luckily we found customer service to be very helpful.

They checked us in and I also discovered we did not have the questionnaire.

At the terminal they had me read a short document and state we weren’t sick.

    This was just last weekend.

    Have a great time!

Just got off the phone with customer service.  Very helpful and friendly.  No wait time to reach a rep either, bonus points from me!  I was able to upload my picture on the app but it wouldn't scan my passport, kept saying it didn't match system.  However, my mom was able to complete check in from her app.  I called and come to find out that my mom's information was entered before mine so it put her passport information to mine as I am the person who booked the cruise and my name comes first.  Only took a couple minutes, she was able to attach mom's passport number to her embark info.  She emailed me a completed Embark Form and now we are all set!

Well technically you cannot attest over the phone NOW that you won't be sick when you cruise in the future.... 😉  The health questionnaire was/is supposed to be filled out right before sailing to attest to your health and exposure risk at the time of sailing.

I understand what you're saying.  I wasn't implying doing the health questionnaire over the phone, just wanted to make sure everything else was in the system.  I'm assuming so since my embark form looks ok, just won't have tickets.
