  1. We were lucky enough today to change our Ocean Suite to a Havana Cabana suite - got lucky and one became available. I had forgotten about the coffee! We love our java in the morning. Thanks for the reminder.

I am really excited about this cabin as it is way out of the norm for us. We have always had a regular balcony to see the water but these cabins look so unique and fun we decided to go for it. My only concern is noise from the outside bar at night as we are early to bed but Carnival does a good job on soundproofing. We might hear some but hopefully not too much.

We have 4 cabanas in a row in June of 17! We are excited.

Is there a charge for this coffee?

  2. Is that per person? It's going to be tough if not.

For me, it matters where I went, and that was my priority. With a lower budget, you are going to be making too many compromises in my opinion. Just not suitable for me. :) I had about 7 weeks of land touring, as well, with my travel. I would not have considered all that time in the Caribbean. :) Everyone is different, it's important to find your own way. A lot of options to consider.

$50 pp. different kind of travel than cruise vacation. I always say travel and vacation are very different. We have started with this resource: http://www.nomadicmatt.com/

Still, I think we will be able to snag a few cruises. Probably on MSC.

  3. yes we had the same wait staff at both tables.

I sent a list of things to do at each island to everyone months before sailing. Then narrowed it down to a few choices. We eventually chose something on each island for the family to do. But no one had to do it. A few times some family members did there own thing and that was ok by me.

We did bring some games to play at night. Like cards.

We also did a few fun things together like a fusball tournament. I brought prizes. And an ugly Hawaiian shirt contest.

Just realize that everyone isn't always going to be happy or like the same things. And that is ok. I

    Cards are a good idea.

I'd like to do a charter at one of the ports for the whole group and then everyone can book other things on their own other ports.

  4. have each family put the hub app on their phone. We paid the $5 for chat feature. It helped out tremendously.

We linked our dining reservations. Just ask a carnival rep to do this. We had 20 people and had 2 tables next to each other. We just mixed up who sat where each night.

Great tips! Our reservations are linked and good to hear that they put the tables next to each other! Did both tables have the same wait staff?

  5. Hello all....I have often cruised in groups. Largest was 12. We are going to be a group of 18-20 on the new Vista in the Caribbean. Wondering if anyone has advise for a group cruise experience? General stuff like ideas for sail away, how did you handle dinner---tables near each other, ever have a charter at a port....anything else fun? We are booked on our own; no TA. Basically I'm the "leader" or cat herder.

We will be a mix of family and friends with no little kids; just teens. Some of us will be doing a b2b...but so far that is just my immediate family and my inlaws. The main cruise will be southern Caribbean 8 day.

Thanks for any tips or ideas!

  6. Oh I'm totally planning on hanging out on my lanai in my pjs. Relaxing on a lounger with a cup of coffee, you bet!! I have a feeling everyone will be doing the same, so not worried about it at all.

Hmmm, I'd better go shopping for some cute new pjs.

Ha! No kidding; I better have lounging clothing for the patio :) I'm hoping there is a coffee maker in each room! I'm also wondering what the door will be....sliding door? The regular door would seem strange.

  7. Impossible to know for sure, and each cruise will depend on the passenger make-up, but I think the 12-17 year olds will spend at least part of the day at the water slides, ropes course, or those racer things, so I don't expect too many teenagers during the day at the Havana pool. Maybe the age restriction was to keep the youngest kids, the one's most likely to be kept with mom & dad out of the pool area, so it's more adult. By allowing 12+, they are still able to cram 3 or 4 into a cabin.

About 3 more months before we start getting first hand reports.

So, we have 4 cabanas and an inside Havana booked for June 2017. It's a graduation cruise so I'll have my two 18 year olds, and my 17 year old nephew as well. Rest of us are adults. I'm sure they'll be in and out of the area and all over the ship exploring the new cool stuff. But here's the thing; there won't be many kids because there are a total of 2 cabanas for 3 and 1 cabana for 4 (rest for 2), 2 insides for 3 and I think only 1 inside for 4. The vast, vast majority of cabins are for 2. So, maybe a few teens, young adults with parents but very few in the 12-15 age bracket is my prediction.

  8. Just read on another thread that all havana cabanas will have the hammock swing chair. Apparently Carnival announced it about 3 weeks ago! Yipppeeee!! Won't make or break the cruise if I don't have one, but it sure looks like a great place to "hang out".

I hope that's true. Do you know how to find this announcement?

  9. Hopefully the artist conceptual drawings are accurate and if not loungers, at least a chair with a foot rest. It was really hard to take the leap of faith, and to book a cabin that no one really knows anything about, two years in advance (I booked last January), but I am going to be optimistic that my leap will be rewarded with a great cabin, in a great area, on a great new ship. At least I won't be at work.

I mean; I've gotten loungers on my regular balcony before by asking the room steward so surely....? And if there are a group of us wouldn't it benefit the wait staff to visit us? Here's to hoping! It is a leap of faith but we've got 4 cabanas so we will have our own party regardless.
