Well, I just called Amex, customer service was great, and they put a credit on my account for the full amount within 5 minutes of the call. They did say that if NCL tries to dispute they may re-bill, and that if I don’t hear anything by August 2, I can assume the matter is resolved. I will update here if there are any issues or changes, but this makes me want to book all future travel with my Amex card. I should have done this sooner.

That's what I'm telling people. You should have done it sooner. And if they rebill you (they won't) that doesn't mean you have to pay anything.

I don't understand?  So you accepted the FCC, but I assume that you also applied for a refund when that was available?

The poster never accepted the FCC. It's automatically posted to your NCL account. It was NCL told Citibank that FCC offer was accepted.

What I think happened here is that we have an inexperienced internet person that couldn't find the refund offer and was waiting for more information. Because NCL planned it that way. The refund offer had a time limit that expired hence they "accepted" the FCC. Proof that the tactics work.

Citibank sent me the reply from NCL stating that I "accepted" the FCC. This really ticked me off as the FCC was applied automatically to 4200 passengers and there was no option to opt out. The refund form wasn't even available for completion until several days later.

I agree, that is dirty pool by NCL.

Just call Amex. My dispute was settled in 2 days and check was in the bank in a week. Just be up front with them. Since you went through the NCL process though,...they may tell you to hold tight the remainder of the 90 days.

I had the same experience from Amex, the dispute was settled in 2 days and the check was in the bank in a week. And I disclosed upfront that I applied for a refund. All they asked was the date the cruise was cancelled.

Crew members sign contracts. Many companies have NDAs, contracts or codes of conduct which limit what an employee of that company can say about their employer. My company does. And I have to reaffirm my understanding and agreement to those terms annually.

I wonder if Amex has anything to do with it. We got our refund in 4 days from NCL.

it was only 2K but I was pleased at how quickly it was credited to Amex.

It must be AMEX. I had a similar experience, one short phone call and my money was back in my checking account in 4 business days. That's the one positive takeaway from this experience for me. AMEX for all my future travels.

I guess I just was a little concerned that the letter I got today didn't say anywhere about applying for a refund on June 8-19 where it did yesterday.

    That's by design.

Not sure what your question is. By default you will get the FCC, hence the email. If you wish to pursue a refund, go online and fill out the refund form during the dates that NCL gave you.

It's proof that NCL's system is deliberately confusing in the hope that people don't ask for their cash back. They want  non-savvy cruisers to accept the FCC as a fait accompli.

But that is not what the Peace of Mind policy is. It is not one word, it is a statement. A statement with a qualifier.

Not defending, just putting it into perspective and realistically...

I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt about this stuff anymore since they bury the existence of actual cash refunds in an attachment when they cancel your cruise.

Has anyone in the US successfully disputed with the CC company?

I disputed a cancelled cruise with Amex on 4/14/20. They refunded the entire amount in 2 days and my money was back in my checking account on 4/20. I don't understand what people are waiting for.

I called AMEX in April and they told me that the time period to cancel the charge by NCL (or pull back the NCL charge and issue a credit on the card account) had passed their time rules. I paid in full in December 2019 for a May 2020 cruise.

I paid in full in DEC 2019 for an April 2020 cruise and they processed my refund instantly when I called in April. Try again.

The entire situation was fully disclosed, you pleb.  You couldn't be more wrong.  I pray that you find more hobbies.  Clueless

The sad fact is you got stuck, as all these NCL shills are happy to point out (seemingly they're only hobby). NCL's made a lot of money playing hardball over the years, they aren't gonna change now. They will swat away anything you do to get the cash back. I think all you have now is acceptance. Book the best cruise you can without giving them another penny and make the most of it if it happens.

  13. I was asked to post an update when my credit card dispute process was over:

4/13/20 - Filled out NCL online refund. Decided a 90-day wait was ridiculous.

4/14/20 - Called AMEX. Told them I had applied for a refund but I felt 90 days was too long too wait. Once they found the charge on my account all they asked me was if the cruise had been cancelled by NCL and the date I was notified. The matter-of-fact way they handled my request leads me to believe that they are handling many similar requests from cruise customers these days and they have developed a standard procedure to process them. What happened to me will happen to you. One thing you might want to note is that if you have a balance on your credit card, the refund money will applied to that balance before you get a credit balance.

4/16/20 - Received a secure message in my AMEX account: We're writing to let you know that, as a result of our investigation, we've credited your account for $4,032.52 which will appear on your next statement.    FYI, my next statement wasn't for two weeks.

4/17/20 - Refund for the finance charges associated with the purchase was posted. I used "Plan It" for a month and they gave me my $25. back.

4/18/20 - Refund for the cruise hits my credit card:

    image.png.09331742f584cd8af620474b087b6fc9.png

Now this was at 8:00 am EST on a Saturday. I called AMEX back and asked to have the refund sent back into my checking account. Max said it would show up in 2 days.

4/20/20 - This morning in my checking account:

    image.png.86b1b55c37db617854a19d313671261b.png

And thus ends my experience with "cruise life." I haven't been impressed with NCL's performance throughout this entire process. Hiding the refund in an attachment, making you wait two weeks and then having it only open for a two week window doesn't pass the smell taste for me. I'm glad they don't have my money anymore, those were the last dollars they will ever get from me. I have better charities to give my money to instead of Norwegian Cruise Lines.

And don't forget this, copied as is from the AMEX website: A disputed charge is not the same as a fraudulent charge.
