  1. Not directly from the ship. It was a shuttle to largo Della pace then pick up the bus from there to station for €3.
  2. Just got home today off Wonder and some of the information in this thread was invaluable. Due to the taxi drivers strike on Thursday we had to walk from the Vatican to Spanish Steps. Only took 25 minutes walk but had to stop at H&M for new sandals for daughter as her feet were killing her. There was also a mass police presence due to, what we were told, a taxi driver protest including flares been let off. Also the Italian prime minister decided to resign that day meaning the media were out in force and streets were blocked off. We did, however, still manage to visit the Vatican, Spanish steps, Trevi fountain, Pantheon and Piazza Navone. A big thanks to @euro cruiser with the bus info. Not fancying a 30 minute walk back to San Pietro from Piazza Navone, and with no taxis available I looked up this thread to see what bus we could get and where from. With the help of Google maps I easily found the bus stop and jumped the 64 back to S. Pietro with 45 minutes to spare before getting the Civitavecchia Express back. So thanks again everyone it helped us to have a good day plus I also got some brownie points off the family 👍🏻😀
  3. I’ve just come off the Wonder and was in Rome on Thursday. Buses to station are indeed back to Largo Della Pace. We got shuttle from ship to Largo and then hopped onto red bus to station. All very easy.
  4. Thanks for the replies quite a lot of good suggestions. We’re not tied to a train. I was just to book the Trenitalia express on our own (€15 each as opposed to €72 from cruise line). I didn’t want to be queuing at station so was buying the tickets in advance. However I don’t want the two ladies moaning if we couldn’t get seats hence the express one as they are guaranteed. Yes, just the Basilica at the Vatican as only a short visit so want to maximise time. I think from suggestions we’ll go Vatican, then Spanish steps via taxi. Then walk back and taxi the final leg. I never considered Piazza Navone so that’s a welcome bonus. Hopefully we’ll get to do a short break land visit next year and do the Coloseum, Forum and circus maximus. I’m a bit of a Roman fan so really want to do these. But I’m still getting to see Pompeii when in Naples so that will suffice for this trip 😀😀
  5. We’re in Rome on the 14th July. I think I’ve sussed out my plan, get the express train at 9.07am to S. Pietro then walk up to the Vatican. We then want to go to the Spanish steps, Trevi fountain, Pantheon then walk back to S. Pietro for the 4.30pm return. Google maps suggests it’s around 5 mile walk. Given the heat what would be the easiest way to the Spanish steps from the Vatican. It looks like there’s a metro from Ottiviano to Spagna but that’s still a 20 minute walk. Are there taxis near the Vatican that we could jump to Spanish steps? Or would it be better doing it in reverse i.e. Vatican, Pantheon, Trevi, Spanish steps then metro back to S. Pietro. Thanks.
  6. How long is the journey from ship to station via bus. I’ve booked the 9.07 express to Rome, so would getting off the ship around 8.15am give us enough time? For info I presume we’ll be at dock 25 as on Wonder of the Seas. Also coming mid July and it’s looking like the ship will be near enough at full capacity of 7,000 passengers.
  7. Thanks for taking the time to do this blog. I’ve really enjoyed it and it’s certainly whetted my appetite for our cruise in 6 weeks.
  8. There you go, should all be uploaded now. Enjoy the planning, it’s one of my favourite bits of a holiday!! Thanks. That gives me some idea. It’s mainly the Aqua and ice shows that we want to see.
  9. @Cruisingcouple22@little britainDid either of you manage to get a cruise compass for Naples? Is there one for the sea day as well? I'm trying to plan our cruise with regards to shows but I've noticed that they aren't the same each week. Thanks
  10. Do you know roughly how many buses there are waiting at any one time? The link mentions they run every 20 minutes so I’d assume that there may be several especially if you’re looking at a ship with 1000’s of passengers.
  11. We’re cruising in July (our first one) so looking forward to hearing about your experiences in particular shore excursions.

  13. I’ve been following someone on Facebook who has posted these which might be useful. Also bear in mind it’s been mentioned that the Effectors 2 is coming in the summer so I’d possibly expect some changes.
  14. Hi, put Civitavecchia as the start and then Roma Ostiense as the destination. If you then select the 9.07am from Civitavecchia it will give you the option to select the express train. Coming back select the 4.30pm one. It should work out at €15 per ticket. Unfortunately you can’t purchase them yet. Our sailing will be in Rome on the 14th July and I can’t book yet. Doing a mock booking it only goes up to the 9th June. Even that still shows 711 seats left.
