  1. All tips are pooled and RCI decides who gets what.....

RCI has their own way of scoring EVERY employee and distibute the tips by that score - that they came up with, in the way THEY decide to distribute the tips !

So it does not matter how you tip...once it left your wallet - RCI decides what will be done with it and who gets how much of the pooled tip!

So YOUR waiter etc. gets what RCI decides he gets acording to the score THEY assign to him.

You have no influence on that....no matter how and how much you tip.....

Where are you getting this information from? Not that I’m an expert, but I have never ever heard of this being the case. And every job I’ve worked as a tipped employee has not had this system either. Just curious how you found this to be true.

  2. For those concerned about the price of Kennedy Space Center, like most of the Central Florida attractions, you can google to search for discounted tickets. They’re small discounts but every penny helps right?

Like someone else mentioned, the price of admission at KSC gets you A LOT. You can easily spend a full day there.

  3. Anyone with a ticket can book fast passes for free, 60 days out for resort guests, 30 days for everyone else. You just need your ticket ahead of time. I definitely wouldn’t do it on a cruise stop.

    That’s for Disney, not Universal.

At Universal you have to pay up front for a one day pass per person that gets you into the “express pass” line. It’s something like $75/pp last I checked.

  4. I always try to play a few games of bingo on every cruise. Most recently was on HOTS last October. There were very few sessions of bingo, maybe 3 the whole cruise, but they had daubers and electronic plus paper cards.

On Allure in 2015, no electronic cards, but daubers and paper cards.

Allure 2016, electronic plus paper cards and stupid pencils, no daubers. Thankfully we had ours from a previous cruise.

I think it’s hit or miss from sailing to sailing. I enjoy the paper cards and daubers more than the electronic cards but I usually get the package with one electronic card and the three pack of paper cards and then they give you a bonus paper card.

  5. Actually Disney’s overall website and booking interface is as bad or worse than RCL. Just try booking a resort on their website. If you pick a hotel to look at and want to then view another you often have to start back at square one (including going to the link for passholders, logging in again, etc.) I swear it is far worse than royal. They spent 1 billion plus on their Magic band project. You can’t even look at lodging with the associated app.

I posted something similar along these lines but it appears my post got deleted in the fray from yesterday (I had quoted a post from the OP where he used foul language after being called out for being, frankly, a dummy).

But anyway, I just want to agree with this post. I spend a lot of time on both RC’s and Disney’s sites and they are both absolute garbage. I will say Disney right now has a small advantage just because of the fact that royal’s recent “upgrade” screwed up my account and all my upcoming reservations.

I’m an AP, I live in Orlando so go to Disney several times a month.... half the time I still have someone waved over to actually let me into the park because my magic band never friggen works. Booking hotels is a nightmare as you mentioned above. There’s no easy way to compare hotel prices with the discounts.

But oh, yeah, Disney is 100% better because they gave that random guy a break for not downloading his photos in time TWICE.

  6. We are going for the first time on Allure in the summer... we are looking forward to several dining experiences. What is the Izumi hibachi experience like? The $45 is for the meal, right? (I ask because on the menu, each item is priced separately) this is confusing. I’ve been to hibachi restaurants at home but I’m not sure what to expect.

When doing the hibachi experience, the $45 includes the complete hibachi meal including appetizers and desserts, but you also have the option during your meal to order sashimi and sushi as a side for an extra charge.

Alternatively you can opt for the a la carte Izumi sushi dining without the hibachi. I have done both and they are excellent. The portions on the sushi side are HUGE and delicious. I enjoyed the hibachi experience but it is nothing special from what you can do at home.

  7. They're not holding your money.... any time you get a refund from pretty much any place, it takes at least 3-5 business days for the funds to transfer back into your account. This is especially true if you use a debit card. This isn't RC's fault, it's just how things are.

You're getting your money back and you don't even have to pay a higher price for the drink package. I don't really think RC owes you anything.

  8. I don’t use a scooter but my mother does when we cruise together, and I have seen rudeness from ALL walks of life. My mother tries very hard to make sure she’s not in anyone’s way when she’s scootin’ around, but people act like she doesn’t even exist. They run in front of her, push her in the elevator, she is always “butt level” in the elevator and people squeeze in and it’s gross.

Then she has to deal with rude idiot comments like the one above. People are so disdainful of the fact she (and others) has a scooter. Well she’s 70 and doesn’t walk well. I’m glad she has a scooter so she can keep up with me and cruise comfortably. Anyone with an opinion about it can keep it to themselves.

(She is not a smoker FYI. I don’t know how this pointless smoking thread has now turned into a scooter thread.)

  9. Well, after three days I finally was able to sign in. Only one of my upcoming cruises (of five total) was showing up, so I had to search my emails for all the reservation numbers, and I still can't find one of them so I'll have to call tomorrow and have them find the missing reservation. What a mess.

I tried accessing one of the reservations once it was up there and of course now it just says it's down for maintenance. Of course!

In browsing the new site, I have to say I'm not impressed at all. The old site had a wealth of information, now the only option it gives is to see your room, and then it doesn't actually even show you anything? What was the point of this again?

  10. On the ships I’ve been on, the smoking from the casino is so bothersome. I try to limit my casino time to the day time when there aren’t many people there. In my ideal casino, there would be a small ENCLOSED smoking free section. I truly don’t see the point of having one side non smoking when it just wafts right over from the smoking side.

On Enchantment last month there were times when you could smell it all the way at guest services. Disgusting.

  11. Had a drink there only once on Allure. The service was incredibly slow, INCREDIBLY slow! And the operator couldn’t figure out how to make the rising tide bar actually rise, so we sat there for about 30 minutes while she fumbled with the controls and then finally called someone else to take over. By then all possible fun had worn off. 🤷🏼*♀️

  12. Every single thread about internet, even a playful thread like this, ends up with some judgy old curmudgeon opining that they lock their phone in the safe (which means everyone else should too, apparently.)

Literally, who cares? The thread wasn’t asking for the location of your phone on a cruise, levonfan, but thanks for the update.

Now to answer the actual question at hand, $100 seems like a lot for just Snapchat, but you’ll get use of the internet besides that so why not. I always get the VOOM package because I do a lot of Instagram stories and periscoping, plus iMessage and email and FB, Netflix, etc. I just keep up with my social media on a cruise like I would anywhere else. :)

  13. My sympathies to your husband who must have dialysis. But I wonder why a theme music cruise wouldn't offer kidney dialysis. Wouldn't the ship, such as Independence of the Seas, still operate their usual medical facilities and have medical personnel as they would on any other cruise? I know they keep medical facilities for their crews' needs. Another thing, what if a performer required medical attention? Some performers on theme cruises are of fairly advanced age and must have medical conditions.

The medical staff on board does not provide hemodialysis. For patients in need of that, we have to book through a travel agent called Dialysis at Sea and they send nurses, techs, and a nephrologist. They’re regular passengers like everyone else, but the cruise line lets them use the medical facilities to provide the service to patients booked with them.

As such, not every cruise is offered on DAS’s schedule, and it’s unlikely that DAS would book on the same cruise as one of these music cruises. It is what it is. 🤷🏼*♀️

So yeah, if a performer or anyone else required standard medical attention, they could use the medical facilities for that. But if they needed dialysis they would have to be booked on a DAS cruise.

Now if it’s peritoneal dialysis, that’s a different situation.

  14. I would LOVE to take a music cruise..not necessarily with "rock", but there are all sorts of "theme" cruises! They are mighty expensive, tho! And, hubby is on hemo-dialysis....and that's a HUGE problem on a cruise. (Yes, I know about dialysis at sea....it's nothing he wants to do! and they don't offer it on specialty cruises....)

It’s rare that you ever come back to check responses to your posts, but as someone who has used dialysis at sea 4 times now (for my mom who is on hemodialysis), I have to ask out of curiosity how you’re able to cruise at all if your husband doesn’t use dialysis at sea but requires hemodialysis?

Personally we don’t find being on dialysis to be a “huge problem on a cruise,” but I realize everyone is different. We have had a pretty good experience with dialysis at sea so far.

  15. Thank you OP for the good advice. I will stop going to specialty restaurants immediately, because you said not to.

Just kidding. I love specialty restaurants and never eat in the MDR. I will continue to book them as long as they continue to provide good service and delicious meals and experiences.

  16. The entertainment on Harmony was some of the best I’ve seen on any cruise. It was a step above Allure, which is my other fav ship. I am not a Grease fan but I even enjoyed that production on Harmony. Even the headliner was great.

The Fine Line is probably my favorite show I’ve seen at sea. It was SO GOOD and the soundtrack was amazing.
