    Something isnt adding up.

It's currently pulling 18knots. Other ships in the area are pulling 18-20knots.

If that's the case, why do they keep cancelling stops?

The ETA is 1630 today.  On the past several trips she has arrived at 1730 hrs. That's an improvement.  My guess is that the generator issues are resolved but the vibration issue is limiting the no. of turns they can put on the bad shaft/prop.

Now, the question is will you get any type of response from your letter?    I believe your letter is justified and well written, but I don't think you will get a response (other than maybe some generic letter from Jan's secretary).    I hope I'm wrong and it does make it to her desk.   Please keep us updated on what you hear.

also copied the Pres. of Princess and the Customer Relations Director for all the good it will do; but it made me feel better by venting to the only ones that can do anything about it.

  3. Just mailed this letter :

    27 May 27, 2022

    Ms. Jan Swartz

    Group President

    24305 Town Center Drive

    Santa Clarita, CA 91355

    Dear Ms. Swartz:

I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed I am in Princess Corp. handling of the recent events concerning the Crown Princess.  I understand that equipment failures happen unexpectedly, and you have little control over them but the way your staff handled the cruises affected was totally unacceptable.

I believe the generator failed shortly before the 7 May sailing and the ship’s speed capabilities were understood by management at that time.  Schedules were adjusted through the end of July and guests did not get to visit Ketchikan and had Icy Point (for 3 hours) substituted.  Your team missed the mark again, because every sailing got into Juneau 5 hours late and not one sailing ever got to Icy Point.  So here we are on 27 May and you are just now changing the itinerary to reflect the changes on the website but have not informed the guests of the changes. At least I have received nothing from Princess.

The cruise that we booked and paid for over a year ago has deteriorated to an Alaska drive-by.  We will have half of the time ashore that we paid for and the late arrival in Juneau precludes any excursions. The only full day we have in Alaska will be in Skagway.

I follow the blogs (cruise critic.com) on the experiences the guests have had since Crown’s return to service and from what I have seen, you have permanently lost many customers because of your poor handling of the situation.

Most feel that the $100 onboard credit is an insult and those that were offered future cruise credits felt they were worthless because they would never cruise with Princess again.  The poor communication with your guests is inexcusable.

I am a supporter of Princess and have stayed the course with the Crown but feel that you need to hear about the black eye Princess has received over this issue.

    Sincerely,

Thank you for this but I'm having a hard time finding the contract- I have what looks like their general passage contract on their website but 6-B-ii is covid related.

Any ideas where I can find the applicable contract?  I can't seem to find it when logged in, either.

    Thanks in advance!

I got that reference from another forum.  When I looked at our contract, I found this but I don't think it will help much.  Better just negotiating with Princess.

We have sailed on the crown 4-5 times before and really like her.
I hope you are right about the many of the issues being corrected on the the Crown.  We are still missing Ketchikan on our itinerary.  Hope the remainder stays the same.

If they get the generator fixed before 1 August, I would not be surprised if they don't go back to the original itinerary that included Ketchikan that many of us thought we were buying. Have been to Ketchikan several times but never Icy Point,  so we would be happy either way.  I just want the bars to be well stocked and the toilets working.

    Agree...send it to Corporate.
We booked for July....and getting more and more scared.
We have been to Alaska twice (with NCL) but we are bringing family who are going to Alaska for the first time.  They are assuring us that they will be fine with whatever it is but....They paid for the trip as a gift to my DH who is turning 70 and I am feeling bad that they won't be getting the best experience!

We are on for 25 June.  I am betting that by the time we sail, they will have worked out the plumbing and staffing issues.  The mechanical issues seem to be getting better and the speed is picking up.  From the posted schedule, the mechanical issues will not be fixed until the August sailings( I base this on the change in itineraries on the schedule). Good luck to those of us that sail on the Crown!

We are making approximately 18 to 20 knots, which is about 2.5 to 3 knots faster we were making at this time last week.  In addition, there is less vibration.   I had heard from a non-engineering department manager that one repair needed for one of the engines had been made and would be trialed.  Perhaps that’s what we are doing now.  The ship has a better “feel” at this moment in time, with this speed, but we shall see.  If there’s any changes in schedule, etc, we onboard will update.

How about setting up a Live Report on your current cruise instead of using the May 7?  You may get a bigger audience. Just a thought.

So why not keep the mess coming for one more night. We were to be early , then late, then all excursions were canceled, then all back on but one. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I Was staying on anyway but I hope those going ashore enjoy their time ❤️

cheers to all with the drink package 🥂 🍻

I would like to organize a meet and greet on the Crown for 25 June. I have emailed Princess but have not had a response.  Who did you make contact with to arrange your meetings?  Thanks

Pkt, I appreciate your niceness and your optimism.  It was great meeting you and others at the meet and greet with my wife, Rachelle.

This cruise was an abysmal disappointment, though, and to couch it as less than that is lipstick on a pig. This felt like such an incredible bait and switch job that I'm just flat out not taking Princess again.  Period.  They can take their 20% FCC and shove it- that's a slap in the face as far as I'm concerned.

As many posters have said, this is a trip of a lifetime/first trip in years/not sure if we can do it multiple times type trip, and they:

    a) knew about issues beforehand

    b) covered or disguised them until the last possible second

    c) sleight of handed when they couldn't otherwise fool us outright

The excuse of 'the tides' as being part of the reason we were going to be late to Ketchikan was laughable! The tides? If *only* we could have known what the tides would be!

I think the reason we're infuriated the most is because we basically convinced our friends (first time cruisers) to do this trip with us.  The money part is irrelevant to us (well, not irrelevant, but certainly not the biggest reason for us, anyways) the part that gets us is that we put our necks out and Princess completely dropped the ball.  There wasn't even a ball, they just kicked us in ours and then said here's some credit to allow us the opportunity to charge you more in the future!

Our friends spent $2,200 for an inside room, full package.  So let's say they get roughly $300/pp in FCC- great! That same $2,200 again in the future would be $1620, so now they're essentially in it for $3820 at a minimum, while the first cruise was an incredible disappointment.  Unacceptable.

There's just no way we're coming back after this unless they reach out and try to make it right (they won't, we're sure of it).

Mike, it was fun being on your trivia team in Fusion- we almost won!

Glacier Bay National Park is an absolute treasure and the gods blessed us with incredible weather.

We lost out on our whale watching tour in Juneau (supposedly one of the best areas in the world at this time of year) we went half way on our train in Skagway, we sat in lukewarm hot tubs (the 2 out of 6 that actually worked) and the gangway went down at what, 8:50 in Victoria?

This was absolutely a cruise- a cruise without ports.  They took the money and ran.

Props to the working staff, though, who were courteous, professional, and helped smooth things over with genuine warmth and hospitality.  We always appreciate the hard working staff of a cruise ship and our room steward, all food servers, and casino crew were outstanding.  We enjoyed our multiple trips to Sabatini's, Crown Grill was so-so and we never got to try Salty Dog Gastro Pub because like seemingly everything else on the ship that they had 25 months to prepare for, it was broken.  Or whatever the excuse was. Supply chain. Covid. Staffing issues.

I just don't care about excuses anymore when we're asked to pay full fare- that's theft.

Scrap the Crown Princess for parts and maybe consider doing the same to a horribly unethical company that just alienated two of our friends as well as ourselves from ever cruising with them again.

On to Celebrity and back on to HAL.

You should send your post to the President of Princess. This forum can't do anything about the situation, but Princess corporate can.

The Captain was to come but he was needed for something and wasn’t there. The officers that were there were not in that area and couldn’t speak specifically to it. I did chat with an officer who said this cruise went better than they thought it might, so hopefully that will continue to be the case for the upcoming cruises. We did get into the ports at least a little earlier than expected. We are nearly to Victoria now.

    Thanks

Several officers came to our 2nd meet and greet today, it was great to see most of us made it to round two as well.

i know it’s not fun to be “the face” of the company when things aren’t going well and I really appreciated that so many officers came to visit with us.

they did agree that the passenger load on this cruise was too high and the staffing too low for the passenger numbers. They didn’t open the pay Salty Dog restaurant and decreased the hours in some food and beverage venues. They did say the passenger numbers will be lower for at least the next several cruises. They are aware of the plumbing issues and more plumbers are coming in Seattle.

i will just note again that my frustration is with corporate and the decisions they made. The crew is working incredibly hard and so many shine. When folks get their after cruise survey, please be sure to note any crew members who stood out to you.

Did they address the generator issues?

From what I have read on Cruise Critic boards, this problem has been ongoing for years. If they didn't fix it during the 2 years it wasn't operational then they probably don't plan to anytime soon. This isn't the only ship experiencing this issue.

Engine problems if a rather broad term. It is true that the Crown has had engine problems in the past but we don't know that the current issues are the same as several years ago.

Because of Princess changing itineraries at the last minute rather than months ago, this "maintenance" was unscheduled and I believe it just came up while the Crown was in Southern CA and Mexico.

We pulled into Skagway about 1, so a bit earlier than the last update. We were a bit earlier in Ketchikan as well.

the Captain and the ships company are doing the best they can with the hand the got.

i changed my excursion and am now doing the photography tour.

Nino and Jefferson at the Good Spirits bar are awesome. Ask Nino for his watermelon Mojito. There is a guy who is evaluating them and giving them feedback, fine tuning the Good Spirits presentations.

i ate at Sabatinis last night. It wasn’t my cup of tea, partially the food and partially because the service was not up to standards. As I’ve said, I am not supportive of the decisions corporate has made. Their decisions about this cruise and probably those coming soon on this ship negatively affect the crew and passengers. There was a very irate couple who’d apparently been told by someone at guest services they were guaranteed a window table for dinner. That’s not how it works and when they arrived there were no window tables. At first the gentleman was quite rude to the waitstaff and head waiter but a bit later did calm down and apologize. He said he’d been so frustrated with what’s gone on and took it out on them. I do appreciate that he apologized a few times and his apologies were heartfelt…. and I’m sure the crew members did as well. The glares and comments from surrounding tables may have helped that along 😅but I’d like to think he would have done so anyway.

this sailing is over 1/2 first time Princess cruisers. Someone didn’t get the memo about what not to flush in the toilets some areas have had plumbing issues. I will say that the first day in some areas you could smell of so i don’t think that is 100% of the cause, but it sure doesn’t help.

we are having a 2nd Cruise Critic meet and greet that will be attended by the ship officers on Victoria Day. Those officers I’ve talked too have been very gracious and I really feel for them, passenger services and the shore ex desk. They’ve been pummeled all week.

Alaska is beautiful and the scenery divine. I know it’s been an exercise in frustration for many, but the ship’s company is doing their best.

I hope all on board enjoy their day. The sail in was gorgeous.

Reception isn’t great and it’s not wanting to upload photos right now but I’ll post more photos when I can.

When you have the meet and greet, please query the officers about expected repair time for the generator problems and specifics on what is wrong. Inquiring minds want to know.

  14. The only real drive is to Carcross, Canada and Emerald Lake just beyond Carcross.  Beautiful country.   The railroad goes up one side of the canyon and the highway goes up the other.  We did not hike on the way to Carcross but did some around town and to the cemetery.

The Avis site says you have unlimited mileage but other posters say you cannot go to Whitehorse, which is another 60 miles beyond Carcross.  We have never been there and want to do it this time if it is allowed.  Since you will be going into Canada, bring your passports.  Right now COVID tests are required for entry to Canada. Hoping that requirement will be eliminated before our trip.
