  1. OP.... best option here:

Book Brilliance out of Tampa March 26th - 5 day western, debark March 31... stay in Tampa overnight. Embark Rhapsody next day. There you go, easiest short cruise solution or simply stick with 78 points.

With a Euro cruise having the DL access for drinks and lounge views for 12 nights, let alone any tendering priority, would really have me thinking about this personally. Are you on Vision or Brilliance for your 12 day in Europe?

    3 drinks x 12 nights x $10/drink on average let's say = $360 per person if you're both D on the Euro sailing

now add free photo, extra bogo drink with D coupon... what else am I missing? Do D's get the laundry deal?

Can OP call in the newly achieved D status and have a price adjustment (or obc credit) for the increased balcony discount?

We are on the Brilliance on May 28. Your idea is a good one, but I am really pushing it at work taking so many days off already. I will give it thought, not getting any younger (57).

  2. Agree that it doesn't usually matter all that much, but I mostly go for Starboard. Not sure why, but we cruise a lot and I think I see the dock more often on the Starboard side than the Port side. This is not the rule, might be all in my head, but I like Starboard.

When I look straight out the water is going from left to right, maybe I like that.

  3. Wow! So many responses, thank you.

    So, my options are...

Leave the wife at home She votes no, me too.

Take a short cruise. Hard to do, we have a 17 night cruise on HAL at Christmas and a 7 night cruise on Rhapsody April 1st that brings us to 78 points. Europe cruise is in may, 12 nights.

None of the other options really work. Stuck at 78 I guess.

  4. We each bring three or four empty water bottles in our checked bags. We fill them with ship tap water and reuse them all week. We always have cold water in the fridge this way.

Usually we arrive a couple days before cruising. I will drink a couple 16oz diet cokes and save those bottles. They are thick and sturdy bottles.

I used to carry a heavy case of water on board but realized its really only the plastic bottles that I need.

  5. We just booked 8092 which is second from the aft on port side. The reviews seem to define a true aft cabin, with comments like long deep balcony etc. On the Vision (sister ship) 8092 is a true aft cabin.

To add to the confusion, we gave up 8022 because the reviews said it was a grand suite under the Windjammer. But 8022 is not a grand suit, and is not under the Windjammer. It is close, but appears to be under the pool deck.

Which is better, 8022 or 8092 on the Rhapsody with the current deck plan?

  6. St Croix: (Coconuts, walkable from pier)

St Martin: (Little Divi, short cab ride, walk further down from this video, lots of open chairs and a bar)

    Dominica: (Snorkel at Champagne Reef)

Barbados: (Carlyle Bay - Same beach as Boatyard - this is further down from Boatyard. Do not pay Boatyard to walk thru their building to get to the beach, tell cab to take you to the public beach a block further, unless you want to PARTY at the Boatyrd!)

Grenada (Grande Anse Beach, water taxi from pier)

  7. I also like the 11/11 because it might have a tad less kids and it is less expensive.

I have been on the Allure, but never been on NCL. The Allure is very nice.

I would like to try the NCL ships someday but we seem to always be on Carnival, Royal, Princess, Celebrity, and HAL. Somehow we never end up booking NCL. Harvest Cay would be a reason I would consider booking NCL.

Lately, when we go to Belize, we book a ship excursion to some little island for snorkeling. This eliminates the long tender ride as the boat leaves directly from the ship. The little islands are nice and I like spending the day there. Harvest Cay looks pretty nice but never been there.

  8. You like the Getaway 11/18 Port better than the Allure 11/11 Port?

The ports look the same except for Harvest Cay. Harvest Cay is the new private island for NCL in Belize. It looks pretty nice to me. But keep in mind that the reason I like this private island is because I don't like the long tender ride at Belize. Everything in Belize is hard to get to.

For others that want to see Belize, and don't mind the long boat and bus rides, Harvest Cay might not be so good because the only way to get off of Harvest Cay is to take a NCL excursion.

I have cruised enough that I have become a "get off the ship, find the nearest beach" kind if guy. Harvest Cay would be perfect for me.

  9. During Thanksgiving you are going to have kids, especially on the big ships, that is a given. If you want less kids look at Princess or Holland America, or book the 11/11 cruise. I would choose the 11/11 cruise because Allure is a great ship, this is the lowest price, much less kids this week, and these are great ports. If I had to choose the Thanksgiving week I would select NCL, because I have never tried them and I would like to see Harvest Cay, and I like the port selection better that the others during this week.

  10. We sleep in while everyone is scurrying out of their cabins and off the ship. Then we casually make our way to our meeting location. We take the leisurely stroll through customs and then race to be the 1st to Bing back in! Okay, we don't really race, and sometimes we are 2nd or 3rd, but all the same.

We used to go to the pool next as we had it all to our self! We were able to use the seats or loungers that were never available during the cruise!

Once they were pouring free champagne as guests entered so we just sat in the lobby and drank free champagne for an hour or two, and watched all of our new friends entering the ship.

The first hour is magical because the ship is all yours, but it soon fills up and becomes the normal madhouse.

Another idea is to get to the buffet when it first opens. You will be the first one in, with no other people.
