  1. If you are wanting to see Gibraltar specifically, there is a great Spain Portugal cruise that stops there in Spring of 2023, very tempting but we were hoping for fall of this year. As far as the ship, you might want to read the thread on here lately about the Infinity cancelled for summer. We are on the 11 day trip in October and truly hope that it sails. We are really looking forward to going to both countries!!  Every port looks like a fascinating time to us!

Oh nooo….my Sep 17th sailing is no longer showing on the website..

Just the other day, it showed lots of availability.

I wonder if a big change-up is coming, or are they really at their sailing capacity.

EDIT— Celebrity website won’t let me log in either, hopefully it’s a glitch for both issues.

Someone on the roll call for my sailing said the ship was sailing at 50% capacity. I’m not sure how they found that out, so it is possible that what we’re seeing is due to that capacity limitation. Not sure if that info is true on just the sailing I’m on, or all of the infinity sailings, or to be fair….if it’s true at all.

Hah! Strangely enough , it's not always allowed here - sometimes it's even forbidden to give a link, sometimes you must hide them a bit with "dot" and "at".

When I looked at our April cruise on "Infinity" today I noticed that for some of 2022's cruises even the outside cabin category is marked as sold out, in others you can still book insides and outsides as guarantees. So again it's either a game of hide and seek or Celebrity is trying to limit bookings as far as possible. As Omicron is raging through Europe now even in countries with a high percentage of vaccinations and boosters it's impossible to say what might happen in April!

It is literally every cruise for 2022 on the Infinity. Some only have one type or the other, and some have both, but you can only book inside or ocean view guarantee rooms now. I believe someone said it happened overnight this past Tuesday. It has to be for capacity limiting purposes. I questioned why they wouldn’t just block off some rooms and still let people pick from the available ones left, and the only reason I could come up with is for upgrade bid flexibility. If they leave the remaining percentage of rooms open to celebrity’s choice only, then they can maneuver guests around to suit their needs versus having to move guests from already chosen cabins and risking making people mad.

Few misconceptions here.  First off, checked bags are screened in the terminal, not onboard the ship, the ship does not have sufficient space or equipment to do this, nor does the crew have the time on turn around day.  Once the bags are on the carts, that's it until they take the carts to the various decks to unload them.

Secondly, unless Celebrity's ticket contract is different than all other cruise lines, you specifically give them the right to search not only your luggage, but also the cabin, without your notice or presence.

As for the items confiscated, that is a bit strange.  While the cruise lines do everything they can to prevent anything that creates heat from coming onboard, hair care appliances have always been the exception.  I suspect that port security thought they were something else, and Celebrity is trying to mask over the mistake.  I would schedule a meeting with the Hotel Director.

Who doesn’t know what a curling iron is?  And if they don’t, why didn’t they confiscate every other curling iron that went on board?  That would’ve been my first question to the security officer. Have they confiscated every other woman’s straightener and curling iron on the ship?  There’s no way she was the only woman with one.

  5. This is quite upsetting as a lady and is seriously making me nervous about our upcoming cruise on the same ship. As someone who has long thick frizzy hair when it’s not styled by a curling iron or straightener, I would be livid if my appliances had been confiscated when they are on a list of allowed items. This might not seem like a big deal to men with short hair or women who don’t have a challenge styling their hair, but it is a big deal to those of us who do. I have no problem complying with ship rules, but the op’s wife did comply with stated rules. That’s absolutely ridiculous!

  6. We’ve never sailed with Windstar before. We’re looking at upcoming cruises and have noticed that the same trip this year is nearly a thousand more per person in 2023. What is normal?  Are the prices for this year and 2022 special prices to get back to sailing?  Are the prices in 2023 just inflated and will fall as the trip approaches?  Just confused how there could be such a huge jump.

  7. Huh? Well their site currently shows the only choices as May29th- Sept something. That’s why we called because our trip would be May 20th and we really wanted to do the train. She said they normally run from the middle of May but shortened because of covid. Hoping they open it back up next year for the earlier time. She did say that schedule would open in august to book so it won’t be long before we know.

  8. If you like whisky, but want something different, try some Drambuie. It’s whiskey that is blended with heathered honey and herbs. It’s a sweet liquour and can also be drank mixed with regular whiskey to make a Rusty Nail (what the Rat Pack was known for drinking).

  9. I believe we are on the same trip. I called the railroad as it says it doesn’t start it’s first train until the 29th of May. The lady I spoke with said that it is due to covid and they had a late start this year. She said they will open the new schedule for next year in August but doesn’t know if they will be changing back to the normal May 14th start up time frame. Fingers crossed!  We really wanted to take the railroad ourselves.

Sorry if my post sounded that way to you. I was just trying to say how much I enjoyed the Millennium so that you would feel you made the right choice. If I had known exactly what you were looking for, perhaps I could have been more informative.

I don’t see how saying that you hoped a 1/4” of rust wouldn’t keep anyone from sailing on her wasn’t meant in a sarcastic tone. But I don’t have any desire to quibble with you. My original post was exactly what I wanted to find out….if the Eclipse had been refurbished or had plans to anytime soon. My husband and I were deciding between two trips and that was just one part of the information that played into our decision.

I was just on the Millennium for the June 5 cruise and I was searching for any signs of wear or needed repairs. I will report that I saw a rust spot on the bottom of my balcony railing about a 1/4 of an inch across. Other than that I could not tell it from a new ship. I hope this discovery doesn't stop anyone from cruising on her.

Your sarcasm is noted. Everyone has things they want in a cruise ship. Some want pools or places for their kids to be entertained. Some want a place to smoke or lots of bars to hang out in. Some want a fancy spa or a casino to play at. I like a nice room where I am comfortable.  We all have the right to find the ship that best fits our wants and needs for our vacation. Try to keep that in mind.

I feel that itinerary on an Alaska cruise is more important than the ship, but then again, my husband and I tend to book based on itinerary.

Even though we live in Alaska we've done a number of Alaska cruises.  On Celebrity we have done the  RTs out of Seattle (on the Solstice), the RTs out of Vancouver (Eclipse) and the one ways Vancouver to Seward (and vice versa) on the Millennium.  While you will also need to consider times in ports, I think the strongest itinerary tends to be the one-way cruises on the Millennium, followed by the RTs out of Vancouver on the Eclipse.

We were last on the Eclipse for a B2B2B series in the spring of 2019.  I had no issues with the condition of the ship.

Thanks we ended up booking the millennium after all. I was just trying to find out all the info I could before I presented it all to my husband for us to decide. I’m a girl that likes to find out all I can do I can consider the whole picture when deciding. 😊

This topic has been discussed endlessly on these boards.  The Eclipse had a partial refurbishment in 2020 because of a drydock accident.  Soft goods, bedding, and some furniture were replaced.  The Retreat Lounge was redone.  Some of the work was not completed.  I cruised the Eclipse in the fall of 2020 and she was in excellent shape.

Sorry, I had searched the forum for the info but wasn’t able to find any threads on it.

  14. So according to what I was reading, the Eclipse was due for its refurbishment in 2020. Obviously COVID has delayed lots of things in life, and this is one of them. Does anyone know if it’s going to happen soon?  Curious as we’re considering a cruise to Alaska on it vs  on the millennium.

  15. My husband and I are looking to book an Alaskan cruise for next May. We’re trying to decide between a round trip that doesn’t hit Hubbard Glacier, a round trip that does hit Hubbard Glacier, and then a one way trip that hits Hubbard and ends in Seward.  The one way trip and the round trip with Hubbard are both on an older smaller ship. The other round trip is on a relatively newer larger ship. Is the trip between Hubbard Glacier and Seward something that shouldn’t be missed? What about Hubbard itself?   I’ve seen pics and it looks amazing.  Should we not even consider the one without Hubbard in the itinerary?

I concur with everything posted after mine. You can stick to poolside and the buffet, trust me, you will NOT go hungry! Other than the Stroganoff horror show, I have not had a single bad meal on board. Oh, there was the North Sea cruise out of Denmark to Iceland a number of years back. No kippers in the main dining room for breakfast. How THAT happened in Scandinavia is beyond me. And let me reiterate about the Chef's Tables. If you aren't a big wine drinker, it's not worth the price. The wines are terrific, incredibly well paired (well, I've had a minor complaint or two and was very happily accommodated), and the food is wonderful. But the wines available with lunch and dinner happen to be very good, with rare exceptions they are the quality that I would serve at home, and if you want something fancier, it's always available. If you aren't "big drinkers", whatever that actually means, I've found that  my occasional top shelf drink before dinner never comes close to approaching the cost of the drink packages, and that's for the two of us. Have a wonderful time. Can we assume you are going next year? I found a Med cruise from Nov 12 2022 Rome to Athens, but not this year. DW and I are booked B2B from Civitavecchia/Rome to Barcelona and then on to Lisbon this November.  Just curious. David

Yes it’s next year. Couldn’t be more excited!  I’m sure we will have a blast. We did our research and felt Azamara really fit our personalities.

  17. Thanks. We’re not huge wine drinkers, so maybe that isn’t a venue for us. Not that we don’t drink wine, but we’re more of a “buy what you like” than the “this wine pairs with that” kind of drinkers.

We’re going to Med on the Nov 12th cruise. Very excited! It’s our first real vacation together alone and our 25th anniversary celebration. Everything has always been about the kids and extended family. We even got married when we were in the Nvy during training schools, so we only had a day off to get married…..no honeymoon. So we are over the moon about this vacation!!!

  18. Hi, sorry I’ve been asking so many questions lately. It’s our first cruise, so we’re just trying to navigate all of this.

We have one specialty dining credit per our room. But we were wondering if we should go do the larger dining package and maybe even the chef’s table? Will we be missing out in the MDR, or are the specialty spots worth 6 out of 7 nights of the trip? I know we want to keep at least one night open for the white party, or is it better to eat at the restaurants instead of that night too?  Is there ever food with the Azamazing night, or do you eat separately? How soon do you find out which nights those events happen before the cruise?  I wouldn’t want to guess and book a restaurant for a night that would overlap those if they are truly worth the time.
