  1. Hi, we’re new to Azamara and we purchased our first cruise through a big box store. That purchase gave us a $400 onboard credit for the cruise. Azamara told us that the credit isn’t usually able to be used until we’re on the ship. What can you use the credit for?  We’re wanting to prebook shore excursions that are important to us. I’m sure we can gamble with waiting to sign up for some others that don’t matter as much, but what else can we buy with the credit if that doesn’t work out?  We already have the upgraded drink package and a few nights of specialty dining.

  2. Thanks everyone!

Yeah, I meant “checked” luggage to be that on the airplane, not the ship. I don’t have any problem with the ship crew delivering our bags. But I’ve read that you should have a small bag to carry onto the ship when you leave your main bags with the porter so that you have some necessities until your other bags get to your cabin. If we chose to use carry-on sized bags for our main luggage, we’d be stuck to small backpacks to stash under the seats to carry those necessities. I wasn’t sure if we could fit enough of what we might need in small backpacks while we wait for our other bags to get delivered to our rooms. Just didn’t know how quickly they got delivered. Most of what I’m reading about is on much bigger cruise ships, so it’s hard to compare being new and all. But thank you all for your advice!  I really do appreciate it. Now we have to see if we can really fit it all into two carry-ons 😂

  3. Thank you all so much! All of the info has been so helpful!

Cardfandubg:  We had considered batteries for ours, but this is our first cruise and don’t know if we will like this form of travel yet. But it may be a future purchase for us. Thank you for the link!

Trivimp: thank you for the link!  We will keep that saved to look at purchasing!

  4. Hi!  My husband and I will be sailing this September to Alaska on the Encore in a balcony room. It’s our very first cruise ever, so this is all a new experience for us. From what I’m hearing, there are only USB outlets near the bed. We both sleep with CPAP machines and we were wondering what those of you that also sleep on CPAP do in these situations?

  5. We are brand new cruisers and have chosen next year’s Onward cruise in November to the Med as our first trip. My husband is hoping that we can carry all of our gear in two carry on suitcases as he hates to check baggage.

My question is, what happens when you only have carry-ons when you embark the ship?  I’ve read that they take your bags and deliver them to your cabin. But because it can sometimes take a long time to have those bags delivered, that you should take some essentials with you in a carry-on bag. Well if everything is in a carry-on….then what happens?  I don’t think we would be able to have a back pack on the plane and another carry-on each. Just trying to figure out how we could make all of that work. I apologize if it seems like a dumb question, but we’ve never been on a cruise (well not one outside of being in the Navy 😂), and we haven’t even flown for over a decade now.
