I will do my typical pre-cruise venting, thank you in advance. We have a 14 day cruise booked leaving on June 18th. The app is doing the same thing it was last cruise. When I select "choose medallion" the screen goes all white and never changes, even after being on the screen for hours. App is then hosed and I have to shut down app and restart. Trying to choose arrival time presents me with the multiple future cruises we have booked, I select the next appropriate cruise and get a "loading" circle that never stops. I have called Princess twice, I was supposed to get a return call but never did. I have also emailed but didn't even get the "we will get to you in order of sailing" response. The app for us has been useless for both cruises with regards to the pre-cruise experience. Like last cruise, we just plan on getting to the port early with all our printed information and let them sort it out. Not that big of a deal.

I called today to confirm our Dine my Way booking since the app only says "you already have a reservation, would you like to cancel it and start over?" without giving me the ability to see what the reservation is! Turns out the reservation is where we wanted at the time we wanted but only for the first few days of the cruise, then we had no reservations. I called (the medallion dine my way people answered on the first ring) but it took over 30 min for the person to find us a private table in the same dining room at the same time each night. They have to check day by day, who programmed this? As it turned out we are now at the same table each night and the same time, except one night were the time is different. Personally I think they should default to the old MDR dining at a table size of your choice. I have to believe they have many upset people each cruise that don't bother with reservations till they get on board and nothing is left.

I learned to log out of the app and close it. Then start all over logging back in. It doesn’t stop all problems but has taken care of most everything for me. Also, I use an Apple IPAD and learned it has a memory. So if you don’t clear it, it will continue to open previous sessions. I clear it by double clicking the big button then swipe away all sessions for all apps I have been using.

    Connect to the WiFi first.

I think there may be a link in the MC App.

I know you can do this URL:  <shipname>.princess.com.

I think you can also do login.com, or similar.

First put your phone on airplane mode. This keeps it from connecting to cell service. You don’t want it to connect to the Princess cell service. Then connect to wifi which will take you to a page that lets you buy or use service you are entitled to.

  3. Funny! We are on Pine Island, small world. My IPhone 8 works fine everywhere in the world except Princess. Like I said before, I would get wifi calling for a few minutes very early in the morning some times. Nobody to call at that hour so it does me no good. It’s a conundrum for sure.

  4. I have iPhone 8 with wifi calling. It works at home and with every wifi service I have ever connected to with the exception of the wifi service on any of my Princess cruises in since November 2021. I worked with the representatives on board. Spent so much time trying to get it to work that I finally gave up. My cruise fun was more important. ATT tells me that it should work and Princess tells me that it should work. I have seen the wifi calling for about 15 minutes at 5am a few times. I did have a Princess person suggest that their wifi just is not strong enough for this phone. They have had other passengers with the same problem. It seems to be associated with the phone not the carrier as the phone is on airplane mode. Good luck, I quit worrying about it. I can see my home security camera, so that is good.

It is the only downside to Princess the enforcement of the dress code and that is the main reason I dont often cruise anymore with Princess. On every Princess cruise I have been on there is a brass plaque at the entrance to all MDRs explaining formal dress code. It is a pity they dont adhere to it but unfortunately they dont and that is why I never wear a dinner suit or even a suit and tie when people think polo shirts and t-shirts is classified as formal dress. If Princess are not bothered about standards of dress on formal nights why not just make every night Smart Casual to save the confusion.

  6. Dear Steve,

Here it is 2022 and I just came across your entry. Loved it! Well stated! I agree with almost all of it. This is actually the way most businesses operate today. I was a customer service representative for a very large telephone company (not ATT).  Our training motto was “do for the customer, what they would do for themselves, if they could”. I loved my job! Today most businesses operate by the “make them work for it”. I have spent a lot of time fixing problems with Princess and others. I now consider it to be a sport at which I am very good. I always expect the worst and get very excited when all goes well. I say “don’t get mad, make them do it right!” Thanks for your insight, keep on cruising!

  7. We cruised with Princess in November and again in December and we are going for 2 weeks in March. NO PROBLEMS! Madallionclass APP has been goofy but fine in the end. We received our Medallions timely. Check in was always easy peasy! Love that we are tracked and the crew knows us and calls us by name. It’s a plus. They can’t know anything about us that can hurt us. I can only imagine any trouble anybody is having would be the same with any cruise line. So sit back, relax and rest assured you are gonna have a great time!

Can anyone answer this question for me:  If there are errors in my Ocean Medallion profile that I cannot fix, no matter what I do, can Princess fix it at the port?  For example, for "Personal Information" I entered "MALE" -- which is what I am last time I looked (LOL) -- but in the summary section it says "female."  In yet another part of this darned app it says for my gender, "undeclared."  I've tried to correct this countless times but the app will not cooperate.  It's almost to the point where I feel doubtful about ever cruising with Princess again after my upcoming cruise.  And having glanced through a video about this app it seems that Princess can track us on the ship everywhere we go.  I've got nothing to hide in that regard, but it feels kind of creepy, and likens Princess to Facebook in that both seem to try to get every little piece of information about you so they can profit from it. What "convenience" it purports to provide to cruisers I can do without.  sheesh!

We have a tradition that started way back on our first cruise on the Majesty of the Seas. Majesty is famous for small cabins, but we expected that and were not bothered by it. However in order to make use of the limited space I would shower and dress for dinner first and then go to a bar, usually the Schooner on RCI ships and have a brew or two & make new friends while the wife had the room to herself to get ready. I always enjoyed seeing her coming in to join me, especially on formal nights when she was all dressed up. I would get that "first date" feeling all over again. Even with the larger cabins we have kept this tradition through the years.
