  1. On many cruises you NEED to book in advance. We didn’t on our transatlantic and the only options available were 8:30. And 8:45. However, there was rarely a line to dine without reservations.
  2. Last week, we got off a two week transatlantic. Early in the cruise we bought 2L of Coca Cola for 1.20 Euro each. We stocked up (yes they allowed them on) and a few days into the cruise, people were asking to buy them off of us!
  3. Many groceries ate priced less in the UK these days than the US (sans fresh meat and produce, which is also generally far inferior in the UK). However, big US supermarkets typically offer better promotions — you can often score a family size bag of Lay’s (Walker’s) for $2, for example. Sometimes you may have to buy two or more to get that price.
  4. It works intermittently for me, sometimes not at all. Therese’s tons of threads on this, most people have the same experience as me.
  5. That’s not true. Sometimes iMessages occasionally come through, sometimes more often than others, but there’s absolutely no trick to having 100% success. If you need that service you cannot rely on that.
  6. It's a bu$ine$$ decision. If RCCL cancelled the cruises altogether and moved the ship to another homeport, they'd have a limited window to book the ship... and typically prices drop as dates draw in. Most people will stick with the cruise since they've requested time off, corradiated vacations, booked flights & hotels, etc. Plenty of other expenses RCCL would be on the hook for it they cancelled: partial airfare reimbursement for everyone, millions of dollars for service and procurement contracts, etc.
  7. Good point, forgot that Ensenada doesn’t qualify for a OW itinerary. Would love to see a Quantum ship at LA but that increases my doubts.
  8. As much as I’d like to see a Quantum ship in LA, the LA cruises (both Royal and Celebrity) are generally the lowest price comparable cruises in the network. A repositioning Hawaii/ Los Angeles cruise maybe, but nothing more although it’d be really nice.
  9. They had 50s/60s themed nights on my cruises last year. Not exactly sure what they did, I never saw anyone dress up 50s/60s style… but then again not many people dress up 70s/80s style either. Don’t recall seeing a 50s/60s night this year…
  10. They’ve had a silent party on my last few cruises although I didn’t go.
  11. The needle is definitely moving, although it may not seem that way. Even into the 2000s, Elvis, the Beatles, Chuck Berry, Sinatra, etc. were the dominate music. You don’t hear this era much anymore, sans some tired production shows and headliners. And if you go dancing, most all music is from the 70s or later. When I was a kid in the 1990s, my grandma went with us a few times and would always go dancing and even Motown was too modern for her taste. The majority of cruisers tend to be older on average, so I’m not surprised 70s and 80s continue to dominate. I’m not sure how many people in their mid-30s to mid-40/la would enjoy dancing to Bye, Bye, Bye or Hit Me Baby One More Time with their kids :). Maybe in 10 more years…
  12. We had her several times last year in Navigator and she was indeed amazing. Very high energy that rubbed off on the entire team! None of the shows I’ve seen since compared.
  13. If the team puts the effort in, the dance events are very taxing. When we were on the Explorer the past two weeks, minimal effort was put in nor did the CD participate. Kinda disappointing.
  14. Seems like the 70s/80s shows are going fleetwide while the 50s/60s shows are being phased out.
  15. i was countering why it’d be worth it. I’m aware it’s not possible.
  16. They do a couple costume changes but they’re specific to a genre, not person. For example, they dress up as glam rockers when doing the hair mental songs. The only person they try to portray as is Madonna but it never looks anything like 80s Madonna.
  17. If you’re local to a port, it can be a very attractive option. For example, I’d prefer to take a ride share to/ from San Pedro. But if more than one ship is in port, leaving San Pedro is a nightmare. Most ride share drivers will decline rides given it can take 30+ minutes to get in and out of the port. So why not spend some extra time on the ship relaxing, enjoying a nice lunch and a smooth ride home?
  18. The promenade dance parties are a collection of hits. 70s includes Village People, Donna Summers, etc. 80s includes Elton John, Twisted Sister, Madonna, etc. I haven’t seen a 90s versions yet.
  19. The three ships I’ve been on in the past year have each had both the 70s and 80s nights/ events. The “dance parties” on the promenade are identical. The 90s events are far more limited, generally limited to an hour or so of a DJ playing 90s hits in some obscured location. We just got off the two week Explorer transatlantic. When the cruise first went live in the app, it looked as if they rolled the prior year’s cruise forward. It mentioned a 50s/60s night, but that soon disappeared. Most of the passengers were born in the 30s and 40s, so it would’ve been appropriate… but looks like Royal is moving past that era :). The 70s are still very appropriate IMO. Regardless of whenever you’re 20 or 70, you’ll recognize and enjoy the music.
  20. Just got off the 13 day transatlantic brining her back to Miami. - Ship is in excellent shape. While RCCL cancelled the $110 “amping,” I actually preferred this version - which added some of the “amped” benefits like the water slides. That said, the lion’s share of passengers were well into their 60s+, so there was plenty of loungers, space in the pool, no waits for activities, etc. - We arrived into A. - Yes, although the benefits booklet we received noted that the majority of passengers were at least Diamond so it would be closed for this specific cruise. - they did two production shows over 13 days. One was about dancing, the other about music in Chicago, NYC, Las Vegas and Miami during the swinging days. Sorry can’t remember the titles. - no, just gotta complete the health questionnaire within 48 hours of your cruise.
  21. It isn't very often when people DON'T walk out on a show (any show, not just limited to comedy). But Jason is one of the most sought after comedians, his resume speaks for itself. Many are never offered a second contract...
  22. It’s not all that bad. And the current rebuilding project between SNA and Long Beach is set to conclude soon, before the OP travels, ending roughly 15 years of continuous construction in the area. And those brand speaking new toll lanes will minimize the travel time, if you are willing to pay the toll….
  23. This was discussed within the last week. Yes, Carnival is still requiring Miracle passengers to use the LBCC parking garage. Yes, you should allow additional time for the transfer.
  24. They haven’t loaded the full schedule yet. The shorter cruises, especially weekend, are booked later so makes sense.
