This is when Carnival pulls crewmembers from their fulltime jobs and puts them on a stage holding the flag of their nation. When you're looking for your second cup of coffee at dinner your server is working there instead of here at your table 🙂

Not all the crew members on the stage are holding the flag of the country they are from

Is she really a great ship? I thought she's had chronic, intermittent propulsion problems over the years. (November 2023, June 2023, December 2022, and August 2021. She's only been in service since December 2019) I thought she was Carnival's problem child ship.

Beside the propulsion issues, yes a great ship

It's been the whole Vista class having propulsion issues. In 2019 Vista needed that floating dry dock (After a crane fell on Oasis OTS) and in late 2021, Horizon needed an emergency dry dock causing Liberty and Sunshine to have to rush back in to service in it's place.

Norwegian won a lawsuit against an azipod company for faulty azipods. (Not a great explanation of the situation) I sometimes wonder if there is a similar thing with the Vista class ships

Sailing on Breeze this month and wondering about secret decks. I've heard about the one forward on Deck 7 on some ships. Is it the same place for all ships? Do you just walk through the Deck 7 stateroom hallway to get there? And any other secret decks, on Breeze specifically, I should know about? It's hard to tell from the deck plans what is what. Thanks!

Breeze has a few secret decks on 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, and 11. Also deck 5 on Breeze is a full promenade! And yes, just proceed forward through the stateroom hallway and there will be a door at the end. Enjoy your cruise!

There seems to be an overall push for more cruises to Bahamas. While I love Half Moon Cay, I have zero desire to return to Nassau and would likely stay on the ship if on a cruise to there again. Everything there is just SO dang expensive! We paid over $100 for a day at the "free" beach. $40 for 2 chairs and an umbrella and another $70 for a pretty basic lunch. I would much prefer more itineraries going to Cozumel or Costa Maya where I can book an all-inclusive beach day for $50-75 dollars pp. (all you can eat and drink plus chairs, umbrellas, wi-fi, use of some water equipment, pools, etc.).

I've noticed this especially on shorter cruises. I understand that ports further north like Mobile and Charleston are limited based on range for shorter cruises. But even out of Miami, the shorter cruises are very Bahamas heavy! I sorely miss the shorter Key West/Cozumel cruises. Such a fun and easy short getaway!

Luckily the short Bahamas cruises are starting to have Celebration Key in 2025, with the 3 day weekend Nassau turning into 3 day just Celebration Key!

Does anyone know when they typically start decorating ships for an upcoming holiday? We'll be on the radiance Dec 4th to Dec 8th.

If you have anything negative to say, please don't. Take it somewhere else.

Last year the ships were decorated from November 25 to December 5 (which was a Monday). For what its worth Radiance was the first to be decorated. Anything could happen but it will most likely be decorated by your cruise on Dec 4

  6. From Meyer Werft:

"MEYER WERFT's newest cruise ship, the Carnival Jubilee, is scheduled to leave Papenburg on Monday 30 October 2023 and will be transferred to Eemshaven (Netherlands) on the river Ems. Arrival in Eemshaven is scheduled for early Tuesday morning, 301 October. After the technical and nautical trials, the Carnival Jubilee will set course for Eemshaven again.

The Carnival Jubilee is the first cruise ship built in Germany for Carnival Cruise Line. Within the MEYER Group, it is also the third ship of the Excel class: the Finnish shipyard MEYER TURKU already delivered the Mardi Gras in 2020, followed by the Carnival Celebration in 2022. All three ships are equipped with low-emission LNG. The highlight for passengers is a roller coaster on board for the first time.

The following schedule applies to the Ems conveyance, which may be postponed at short notice according to weather and tidal conditions:

    Monday, October 30, 2023

from approx. 09:30am Ship in waiting position (Papenburg)

approx. 12:00pm Passing the dock lock (Papenburg)

approx. 4:35pm Passing the Friesenbrücke (Weener)

approx. 7:45pm Passing the Jann-Berghaus-Bridge (Leer)

approx. 11.15pm Arrival at the Ems barrage (Gandersum)

    Tuesday, October 31, 2023

    approx. 01:30am Passing Emssperrwerk

    approx. 03:15am Passing Emden

All information is subject to wind and weather conditions, water levels and therefore without guarantee. Time shifts are also possible at short notice!

Carnival Jubilee will sail the Ems towards the North Sea again backwards and with the support of two tugs. This way of transfer has proven to be successful due to the better maneuverability.

The transfer of the ship will again be carried out by the team of the pilot brotherhood Emden. The Ems pilots have been performing the maneuvers for many years. The team uses state-of-the-art technology to prepare for a realistic simulation of the Ems river passage in Wageningen (Netherlands).

The passage of Carnival Jubilee down the Ems will take place with the support of the Ems barrage. The duration of the passage will always be kept as short as possible so as not to interfere with navigation on the Ems. For more information on the function and operation of the barrage, visit www.nlwkn.niedersachsen.de
