Well there were two R.O.'s. The first, the former Doric / Hanseatic / Shalom, was Royal Cruise Line's second ship in 1981 after the Golden Odyssey. She was sold by RCL in 1988 to Regency Cruises, sailing as the Regent Sun. She lasted until Regent went bankrupt in 1995. The former R.O. sat unused and forlorn, the subject of many plans that never came to fruition. A conversion was started to transform her into the Canyon Ranch at Sea, but the deal collapsed in 2001, and the ship was sold to Indian Breakers. She sank off South Africa whilst en-route to the breakers.
The second R.O. was the former Royal Viking Sea. She sailed for RCL from 1990 to 1996. Today she is the Albatros for Phoenix Reisen in Germany.

My first cruise was about 1976 aboard the MS Caribe (Commodore Cruise Line) out of Miami to the Caribbean. I was only 11 and I went with my parents and younger sister. My sister and I loved the cruise. My parents, rightfully so, hated it. I just pulled up pictures of the ship and can't believe how old it looks. The four of us were squeezed into a porthole cabin. We stopped in Haiti (poverty was crazy), Puerta Plata and Montego Bay. The best thing on board were the cheeseburgers by the pool. I remember there were a couple of days when the seas were really rough and my father and I would run to the grill for burgers for the my mom and sister. I won the putting contest. My poor parents were miserable but the kids loved every minute. Not to worry though, my parents will be taking their 5th World Voyage on HAL this January and probably have 700 days at sea with HAL, Princess and Celebrity. I was married onboard the Grand Princess in 2000. We cruise every year and our four year old will be going on his 4th cruise this October/November. I didn't take my second cruise until 1998, but we've been hooked ever since.
My first cruise was in 1980 on board the same Caribe of Commodore Cruise Line. I was 7 and we sailed on a 2 night cruise to no where out of Alexandria Virginia. I do remember the burgers by the pool deck as well. My brother and I were also all over the ship in the two days. I remember the cabin being somewhat small. Interestingly a few years ago a friend and I were in Fort Lauderdale and decided to do the one day sail to the Bahamas. Low and behold, the ship we sailed on, the Discovery Sun, was the old Caribe!!! She was still going "strong" It had been too many years to remember much about the ship, but the pool still looked the same to me, as did the "racey" smoke stack. She was built in 1968 as the Freeport, and still today calls on her original namesake port.
As built as the Freeport
As the cruise ship Caribe
Back as the day cruiser / ferry Discovery Sun

So I got a new display case for my models, and I had to take them all out for transfer. Here are a few pictures of them on the dining room table during the transfer.

Here is a small overhead shot...

Well I have seen diecast models of the Carnival Pride and Spirit, but not the Legend. They are normally available on Ebay for $40.00 or so. They are much nicer metal models than the resin ones offered on other ships.

A pic I took of the Nordic Prince docked in Hamilton Bermuda with the Atlantic of Home Lines in 1985
-
There was a second Angelina Lauro that sailed for StarLauro in 1989-1991
She was the charted greek cruise ship Arcadia.
-
I was never able to sail on Home Lines, but as a child toured the Doric and Atlantic when they were in Bermuda. We used to stay every year at a hotel directly across from Hamilton, and oh how I fell in love with the Home Lines ships.
Here is a picture I took of the Atlantic sailing into Hamilton in 1985
Here is Oceanic in the Great Sound of Bermuda also in 1985

Just a quick thank you! I bought this model, and have been very pleased with it. I'll also keep an eye out for the Montego Products model as well, to have one which is slightly larger.
Here are the Montego Products models in my collection, from left to right you have the QE2, Sagafjord, Cunard Princess, Royal Viking Sea, Fairsea, Fairsky, Royal Princess, Rotterdam, Nieuw Amsterdam and Tropicale. They are pretty nice models.

Beautiful new models of the Norwegian Cruise Line Ships from Scherbak Models. Included are the different subclass, Dawn & Star, Gem & Pearl, Jewel & Jade. All have the different hull art as well as any architectural / structural differences. I personally have the N. Dawn and think it is a great model.

CM models makes a 1:1250 scale model of the Rotterdam V.
The model is available here http://www.collectableships.com/models/CM.htm
Now there is a model of her by Montego Products that was made in the 80's that might once in a while come up on ebay. It is larger, maybe 1:900 scale, made of resin and has the blue hull she had more recently, though now the real ship is back to the grey hull as she is renovated in Rotterdam for use as a hotel ship.

Got a few more models and here is a picture I took yesterday of my 1:1250 scale waterline model collection. The collections spans from ocean liners of the 1800's to the latest cruise liners.
-
I recommend emailing Alexander Scherbak and asking him about the Crown. I think that model is on his list of future models.. I have two of his 1:900 models, and three of the 1:1250 scale waterline models (Freedom, Millennium, and QM2). I really love the waterline ones.

After I posted, I realized there is no Private Message function on this board, so if anyone is interested in one of the china models listed above, shoot me an email at thadconstantine@hotmail.com. Here are a few views of some of the models. They are fun, but not exceedingly realistic renderings of the ships themselves.
P.S. I forgot that the Caribe I and Homeric are in the collection, and also one of the models is definitely the Holiday, so the other is either the Celebration or Jubilee, not sure which it is I have, as they are exact sisters.
-
I unfortunately am not willing to sell any of the 1:1250 scale waterline models at this time, but interestingly I have another collection of ceramic cruise ship models, by a company called Passport Models. They used to have a model of the month club, and they are pretty nice models. They are not nearly as detailed as the metal models, but get a good impression of the ship across. I might be persuaded to sell some or all of these. I have Atlantic (Premier), Oceanic (Premier), Song of America, Song of Norway, Nordic Prince, Regent Sea, Regent Star, Bermuda Star, Veracruz, Celebration, Jubilee (or Holiday, I am not sure which), Crown del Mar, Crown Odyssey, Norway, Sovereign of the Seas, Stardancer, Emerald Seas and Americana. If anyone is interested in any of these collector's items, send me a PM

There are normally a bunch of nice items on ebay for the Home Lines, one of my favorites as well. Try this search, looking in both ebay and ebay stores: http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&combine=y&catref=C6&frpp=100&from=R10&fstype=1&satitle=home+lines&sacat=35962%26catref%3DC6&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=02891&sabfmts=1&saobfmts=insif&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=2%26fsoo%3D2&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search

Well Alexander Scherbak also has a 1:1250 waterline collection, which while still pricey is much less than his 1:900 collection in the $130.00 to $170.00 range including shipping. These models are smaller and are only waterline, not full hull. So far he only had two, the Voyager of the Seas class and the Queen Mary 2, but he will be releasing the Millennium Class and Freedom of the Seas Class soon. I am very excited for the Millennium model, as I have sailed on her and always wanted a nice waterline model of her for my collection.
Here are the two models he has so far released
And here is my current collection, which includes many many 1:1250 scale liners and cruise ships, from all different manufacturers

I remember someone was looking for a model of teh Commodore Enchanted Seas or Enchanted Isle. Well I saw this model of the Bermuda Star on ebay, and as it is the same ship, thought it was worth posting. I am not sure if he has two available, it looks like he might, one with a broken mast. Anyway I have this model in my "Passport" collection and it is pretty nice.

Here are a couple of the pictures of her going down...

There is a model of the Brasil on ebay right now, in the smaller 1:1250 scale. I have the model as well, it is pretty nice. Here is the link
-
One other option would be to buy the Revell kit of the S.S. Brasil on ebay, as they come up pretty often. This is what the Enchanted Isle was originally built as in Mississippi in the 1950's. But this is a kit that would need to be put together.
There is one on ebay now
-
While I do not see the Bermuda Star available on ebay now, there are a few auctions of the Passport models in the Collectables area. Here are a few pics from the three auctions to get an idea of what these models are like.
So there is a model of the ship out there, just keep searching...
Is anything left of the Antilles wreck?
