  1. I'm traveling with my 22 year old daughter. My plan is to take the train from port to Roma San Pietro so we can see St. Peter's Basilica. After that, our "must sees" are the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon. We, of course, hope to see much more, but we want to explore on our own. I've found a good self-guided walking tour. My question: what's the best way to get from St. Peter's over to where these sights are? I don't mind walking, but I am also mindful of the short amount of time we have on a cruise stop. Is one location better to get to first? We don't have tours booked. We are just seeing them from the outside. TIA!
  2. We’re in port for 12 hours also. I was just thinking about actual time in Rome. We want to do a walking tour it outdoor sites, but I hate not taking my daughter to see the Chapel and St. Peter’s. I don’t hate it enough to stand in line for hours though 😂. Thanks for giving me your itinerary!
  3. Ok Cruisers, how to we see the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's in the shortest amount of time? (I'm only partially joking.) With potentially only 8 hours in Rome, I don't want to spend most of it in line. Would booking with a private tour company help avoid waiting in line? My issue with some tours is I sometimes feel "stuck" and can't see things as I'd like to. I'd love some advice! BTW we're there in June.
  4. Sadly, you are right... Looking for an earlier time.
  5. Just looked and it won't work. Time to search for another tour!
  6. Looking at a three hour tour of Sistine Chapel, St. Peters that begins at 2:30. If we finish at 5:30/6:00 am I cutting it too close to take the train back to Civitavecchia when our ship leaves at 8:00?
  7. Yes, I think I'm at the lowest price it's going to get to.
  8. That proverbial cruise ship has sailed for me. 🙂
  9. Thanks for your thorough reply. Great information.
  10. Last cruise we purchased the soda package, and more times than not I filled my cup with water. Without purchasing again, where can I refill a water bottle with water...multiple times a day... yes, I'm the "carry my Stanley cup everywhere I go water drinker." 🙂
  11. Great idea on purchasing now to hold at this price. Thanks!
  12. This is exactly what I needed to know. Traveling without my husband and he'll want peace of mind in being able to contact us, even with the ship's unpredictable WiFI service. Thank you!
  13. Vroom is "on sale" for $20.99. Cruise is a western mediterranean cruise in June. What are the chances this price will drop before June?
  14. Posting here rather than cruise line because I am curious as how this is specific to western Mediterranean cruises. I know we will use our carrier's cell service for ports of call during our trip, but what's the possibility of having any service while on board the ship while cruising? We've only ever done Caribbean cruises in the past. Trying to decide on purchasing the ships WiFi - which I know can be iffy. This is not for streaming, just keeping in touch with family at home. Thanks!
  15. Love this advice. I have learned to “loosen up” over the years. Last summer my husband and I did a Viking cruise and decided to spend a couple of days in Paris. The only thing planned was our flight and hotel room. We had the best time! Thanks for sharing.
  16. Thanks so much for your help. It puts my mind at ease!
  17. Thanks for the reassurance! I need to be more “go with the flow.” And if we miss the express we can take another train. We’re so excited for this trip!
  18. You’re right! I’m overly stressed! 😊 First time my 22 year old daughter has been overseas and my first time traveling overseas without my husband with us. And… I’m a bit of an over planner. Your response has helped tremendously. Thank you! On this ticket could you do express train into Rome and non express back? Would give us more time not having to catch 4:00 express.
  19. I believe the shop docks at 6:00 a.m. My concern is the thousands of passengers disembarking to catch the 9:00 a.m. express train. Do you remember what time you disembarked? RCCL has an expensive "express train" excursion ($95!!) that is basically shuttle to station and express train tickets to and from port. I can't stomach the $200 it would cost the two of us, but wondering if it would be worth the peace of mind.
  20. Thanks everyone for the feedback! Lots to consider!
  21. Thanks for the insight. My thought is we’ll be nibbling on all the yummy food at our stops and won’t mind the 8:30 dinner time.
  22. Thanks for the feedback. Do you book your time on the app each day or just show up during the designated MTD time frame?
  23. Just what I needed to hear! Thanks for commenting!
  24. My daughter and I are cruising in June on Oasis of the Seas out of Barcelona. The early dining is already booked. The late dining is at 8:30. We are currently scheduled for MTD. I've read previous posts about issues being seated for MTD, long wait times, etc. I do like having the same wait staff every night, too, so the 8:30 might be a better option (if I can stay awake that long!) Any advice? Would MTD be difficult with only the two of us?
