  1. The day we were there (2 days ago) it was a gorgeous, beautiful day, but the water was rough and no ferries were running. Just an FYI.
  2. Would you recommend buying ahead of time? We'll be there a week from Wednesday and there are tickets available online. I'm just wondering if it might be hard to get tickets back the day of.
  3. I can't thank you enough for your help! This is exactly what I needed!
  4. Can someone suggest where to buy a bottle of wine to bring on board cruise? I'm not sure what type of store to look for. I'm not looking for anything fancy, but bonus points if you can recommend a good local wine! ๐Ÿ™‚
  5. Thanks for the help! Much appreciated!
  6. If we were to spend the afternoon in Trastevere, would we have to take the train from Ostiense to Termini, then switch trains to Civitavecchia and the port? I guess I'm having trouble seeing what direction the port is to Rome on the map you posted. (extremely helpful map BTW!)
  7. I'll be in La Spezia next Wednesday with my daughter. We have 1:30 reservations in Manarola. We plan to take the train from port, but would like to visit other villages before and after our 1:30 reservation. After Manarola, we'd like to hike down to Riomaggiore, explore there and take train back to port. Here are my questions: #1 Is there time to explore a village before 1:00 if we head out early morning, and if so which one would you suggest? #2 is the train our best option to travel between villages? #3 I've read conflicting information about hiking between the villages. How do we go about hiking from Manarola to Riomaggiore legally? #4 Can someone explain the train system to me like I'm a ten year old? ๐Ÿ™‚
  8. Thanks for much for your responses! This is extremely helpful!
  9. I'm traveling with my 22 year old daughter. My plan is to take the train from port to Roma San Pietro so we can see St. Peter's Basilica. After that, our "must sees" are the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon. We, of course, hope to see much more, but we want to explore on our own. I've found a good self-guided walking tour. My question: what's the best way to get from St. Peter's over to where these sights are? I don't mind walking, but I am also mindful of the short amount of time we have on a cruise stop. Is one location better to get to first? We don't have tours booked. We are just seeing them from the outside. TIA!
  10. Weโ€™re in port for 12 hours also. I was just thinking about actual time in Rome. We want to do a walking tour it outdoor sites, but I hate not taking my daughter to see the Chapel and St. Peterโ€™s. I donโ€™t hate it enough to stand in line for hours though ๐Ÿ˜‚. Thanks for giving me your itinerary!
  11. Ok Cruisers, how to we see the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's in the shortest amount of time? (I'm only partially joking.) With potentially only 8 hours in Rome, I don't want to spend most of it in line. Would booking with a private tour company help avoid waiting in line? My issue with some tours is I sometimes feel "stuck" and can't see things as I'd like to. I'd love some advice! BTW we're there in June.
  12. Sadly, you are right... Looking for an earlier time.
  13. Just looked and it won't work. Time to search for another tour!
  14. Looking at a three hour tour of Sistine Chapel, St. Peters that begins at 2:30. If we finish at 5:30/6:00 am I cutting it too close to take the train back to Civitavecchia when our ship leaves at 8:00?
  15. Yes, I think I'm at the lowest price it's going to get to.
  16. That proverbial cruise ship has sailed for me. ๐Ÿ™‚
  17. Thanks for your thorough reply. Great information.
  18. We, of course, have ATT. ๐Ÿ˜‚
  19. Last cruise we purchased the soda package, and more times than not I filled my cup with water. Without purchasing again, where can I refill a water bottle with water...multiple times a day... yes, I'm the "carry my Stanley cup everywhere I go water drinker." ๐Ÿ™‚
  20. Great idea on purchasing now to hold at this price. Thanks!
  21. This is exactly what I needed to know. Traveling without my husband and he'll want peace of mind in being able to contact us, even with the ship's unpredictable WiFI service. Thank you!
  22. Vroom is "on sale" for $20.99. Cruise is a western mediterranean cruise in June. What are the chances this price will drop before June?
