  1. If you get dropped off at lovers beach, how do you get a ride back? Thanks for the info!
  2. This year the train did not stop in Fraser. They are only running a Summit train that goes up and back with no stops. No passport needed. The logistics of checking everyone’s passports with ArriveCAN, along with a detailed manifest requirement, did not be make it possible to keep a tight schedule. Hopefully next year Canada will reduce some of these rules which will allow White Pass to stop in Fraser again.
  3. This is the same dock that we are talking about, the Railroad Dock.
  4. I see solo travelers a lot more often recently. There are various reasons for this, but it’s definitely more common than it used to be.I hope you do it and have a great time!
  5. You will not get lost, so don’t worry. I believe that they will give you some information with the car. Plus the fact that you will be traveling on the Klondike Highway, the only road that is up and back. 👍
  6. I think you will be fine with Avis. The SUV’s are newer and I’ve not heard of any breaking down. Emerald Lake is gorgeous and Caribou Crossing is good for lunch plus the kids will have fun there. The town of Carcross is good for them too. After you pass the Yukon sign and you are heading near the Venus mine, there are rocks that have fallen into the road pretty often. Just watch it in that area. As you’re driving, you’re going to want to look at the scenery as it’s very beautiful and majestic. Try to resist this and keep your eyes on the road. Make your stops for looking around. Have fun!
  7. A few years ago I used Turo for a day while in Hawaii. It was fine, I would do it again. However, I was not going too far away from civilization and I was not on a cruise. I do not know if there is a turo here in Skagway, but if there was one I wouldn’t use it. If you are wanting to travel from Skagway to Emerald Lake in the Yukon on the Klondike Highway, I would only use a rental company or tour company. Once you leave Skagway, you have no cell service until you get to Carcross. If you broke down, what would you do in the middle of nowhere? If someone did stop for you, would they take you to Skagway or drop you at the Canadian border? Would you get back in time for your all aboard, and would you just abandon the Turo? This sounds like an exaggeration, but it’s not. Don’t take the risk, it’s not worth it.
  8. Go to Trip Advisor and read the reviews on Chilkoot Charters and Tours. I think it will give you an idea of what guests have experienced on a tour to the Yukon with them. They will pick you up at the dock instead of walking to town to get a car. Not a problem for some folks, but can be for others. Especially if it’s raining.
  9. Yesterday and today there were 2 ships on the RR dock. The forward ship is using the dock, while the RR Aft is tendering. It’s nice to have full ship days, but it’s creating a hard time for tour companies trying to gather guests.
  10. Sometimes the tide is really low, which makes going up the ramp even more steep. I hope they can get the dock fixed soon!
  11. Thank you so much for your thorough report. Especially your first hand observation along with your husband’s educated opinion on the matter.
  12. Hainesskagwayfastferry.com Go to this site and pull up the schedule for your day. It is very possible to walk up and buy a train ticket when you get to Skagway. Just be mindful of the timing. Sometimes the train is a little late getting back with them having no control over it. Just leave yourself plenty of time to make sure you have a cushion.
  13. The Chilkoot Charters bus to the Yukon is fantastic! It’s also very easy, no extra testing required. The Canadian boarder patrol is happy to have folks coming through to visit Canada, so they are not going to give ship passengers a hard time unless you were to not have your passport with you. Your ArriveCAN is digitally attached to it which you already did before getting on the ship. Nothing extra required.
  14. Where did you read that it is still available? Some tour agencies have not updated their information, but they should have by now. There will be no train/ bus combos this season from what I understand, and I know for sure that it has not changed so far. During these times I would advise to book directly with your tour company that is providing your tour if you can. You can be sure to get the most updated information directly from them, and more quickly.
