  1. Obviously upset quite a view people whilst expressing my personal view. Have no problem with anyone having their own views, that’s what makes the world go round. Just to take up the point made by Kalos as regards to humans being killers (safari’s etc.), would confidently say that an extremely small percentage of people kill for pleasure but would equally confidently say that a very high percentage of cats kill for pleasure. I should like to leave the matter there, I lost my dear wife last year and she and all of my family know what kind of person I am which is more than good enough for me.
  2. I think the horse is a very noble animal, quite like dogs but hate cats with a vengeance, can’t understand why anyone could like an animal that kills for pleasure, then again as Megabear says each to their own.
  3. Cummon Terrier John, are you telling me you’re not ‘down wiv the kids’? I recall when I reached my 75th birthday back in April telling my stepdaughter that it felt weird as I still thought of myself as being 25 in my head. Unfortunately it’s everything below my head that keeps reminding me I’m 75😩.
  4. On a totally different topic, I see that Lizzo has been accused of ‘fat shaming’ now Twiggy being accused of that I could just about get my head around, but Lizzo!!??
  5. On the subject of Formula 1, seems to me we have had one team vastly superior to all the others for a few years now. Mercedes had their ‘golden age’ which Red Bull are now enjoying. Unfortunately I see no real end to the current situation for the foreseeable as Red Bull have even got the pitstops off to a fine art being consistently half a second faster than anybody else. For the record I don’t like Verstappen either, his squeaky voice makes me squirm. However I do respect the fact that he is an exceptional driver, but would love to see him and Lewis Hamilton going head to head on a more even footing.
  6. Jack & Bobby were indeed brothers, maybe Jane meant first different sex siblings? Their uncle was Jackie Milburn very much a footballing family. Had women’s football been around at that time I suspect Cissy (Jack and Bobbys mum) would have been a pioneer.
  7. So sad Michelle, thank goodness you have a strong supportive family. Take care and try to remain positive.
  8. Funnily enough, just bought a Ninja AF300 yesterday, used it for the first time yesterday evening and looking forward to using it more or less everyday to replace my kaput oven. The replacement oven I was monitoring, Bosch went up by £80 overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, how can such ginormous percentage increases be justified, especially when you consider we are supposedly in July sales territory. Anyhow thanks to all on here who gave their input on the benefits of air fryers when I asked the question some time ago.
  9. With regards to the smell and vibrating cabins, I was on Azura last October, aft balcony on D deck. When docking the vibration in the cabin was very pronounced but saved me booking an early morning call as it would have woken up Rip van Winkle!! When we were heading to the theatre one evening, just past the photography area if memory serves me well, the sudden horrendous sewage smell caused me to turn to the member of my family nearest to me and advise her (it was her first ever cruise) that it was a not uncommon occurrence on Azura. I have sailed on her three times and the smell has been noticeable, albeit very briefly on each sailing at some point. Maybe some people have a more sensitive nose than others!?
  10. On the subject of first cars, mine was a Morris 1100 CNW 363C. Someone told me when I bought it never get a green car they are accident prone! The thesis being green means go, so someone is more likely to hit you. Sure enough three months later a van hit me and wrote it off, never had a green car since, but quite a few red ones!!
  11. Harry/Avril All this talk of Yorkshire dialect and localities brings back many memories. My first job was in local government at Brierley Hall and my late mother-in-law lived in Monk Bretton. I was born and brought up in Hemsworth and used to see Geoffrey Boycott in the local Barclays Bank on a fairly regular basis. Think he was paying in money which his mam had caught in her pinny!
  12. ‘Morning all can’t find a relevant thread, so here goes with my query. My family are looking at a transatlantic on Arvia for 2024. When my late wife and I did one on Oriana in 2003 we drove to Manchester airport from where P&O put on a coach to Southampton. After the two weeks flew back to Manchester and picked up the car. Does this still happen ?
  13. No Zap, I didn’t see ‘her’ advertised on a postcard in a ‘phone box!
  14. Thank you all for your feedback. As I live on my own, and having searched the internet it would seem the Ninja AF160 UK is a very strong candidate. Anyone had any experience if this model?
  15. Sorry to drag an old topic up, but my oven has died on me. Grill still works but fan oven not, suspect the element has gone and even though a new element costs about £15 access to it seems a nightmare. I know that several of you recently extolled the virtues of air fryers on here and wondered if someone could remind me of their recommendations. Thank you in hungry anticipation!
  16. Jane As Avril alluded to earlier it’s quite often the here and now that catches us ‘oldies’ out in the memory department, I went upstairs the other day and completely forgot why which is doubly worrying as I live in a bungalow! I don’t really but thought it was too good a quip to pass up on.
  17. I too am getting swamped by e-mails😡. Pray tell me how do I stop them?
  18. Did you not listen to Therese dear, she said turnip not swede!😄
  19. Woke up this morning with a surreal thought, do Selfridges sell fridges? Do Curry’s sell curry’s? And a blast from the past of my younger days, did Maypole sell maypoles? Can anyone think of any similar quirks?
  20. Sorry folks, I can top them all. My dad was a railway signalman and worked with a guy called Leonard Duck, one of his kids was my age so when he was born in 1948 his dad called him….. drum roll, DONALD! Absolutely true I promise you, and this in a mining village in West Yorkshire! Imagine what his school years must have been like.
  21. Perhaps you should retract that remark as I may be looking for compo!
  22. Sorry, but every time I see the heading I keep thinking wrinkled stockings, don’t know why😂
  23. I and 10 other members of my family returned from two weeks on Azura last Saturday. Four of us (including myself) contracted Norovirus half way through the second week. Upon arriving home Saturday evening my daughter and son-in-law, with whom I sat on the plane and shared a car with from Manchester airport, both tested positive for c…d. Yesterday I too tested positive for c…d. These incidents certainly detracted from what was for me a very therapeutic family cruise following the death of my lovely wife in February. However I find myself reticent to blame P&O having witnessed first hand the appalling hygiene standards of a number of my fellow passengers. P&O can take all the necessary steps, impose the strictest of controls, but until people display even a modicum of respect for the well-being of their fellow passengers these issues will never be eradicated.
