  1. We have stayed in both types of junior suites on Anthem. The suite with the large balcony is our favorite by far. The room is huge and the balcony is amazing. This suite is slightly more expensive than a spa jr.

The split bathroom is kind of a waste of space in the spa jr, but the large shower is a nice feature. The J1 suite with the large balcony tends to sell out fast, so good luck booking one. I'd grab that cabin any day!

  2. We have done several cruises on both the Gem and Anthem. Both are great, but we love Anthem best. The public spaces are so much nicer and accommodating on Anthem. Sometimes it was tough to find a good spot outdoors on the Gem. And the activities and inside options are better on Anthem when the weather isn't great, which is an issue to consider. Food was fine on both ships, but we preferred Anthem. We never sailed on Breakaway due to the mixed reviews. I was especially bothered by comments about cigarette smoke. This isn't an issue at all on Anthem. I also prefer the terminal and boarding procedures in Cape Liberty, v. the NYC cruise port. Parking is also more expensive in NYC and just annoying. The new parking garage in Cape Liberty is very convenient and extremely quick to get in and out of. Hope this helps.

  3. My husband and I just returned from a 9 night Anthem cruise. We tried the dining room the first night and had a long wait in line even with a reservation. Food and service was okay, but it was crowded and very loud. So, we ate in the Windjammer the next night and never returned to the dining room. Food was outstanding, with great variety of different foods each night. We had great cocktail shrimp, made to order dessert crepes, tasty stir fry station, cooked to your preference pasta and desserts to die for, aling with the entrees they serve regularly. There was a great variety of cheeses, fresh and delicious varieties of bread..... I could go on and on.

We also had quick and very attentive drink service, which is not how things generally go in the dining room. No problem getting a quiet table for two next to the window. Since we sat in the same area each night, we got to know the staff there, and they were friendly and great to get to talk with. Kind of like the "old days" of cruising. Plus, dinner didn't take an outrageous amount of time.

We have always enjoyed breakfast and lunch in the Windjammer. Although seating is trickier at peak times, but thats the norm. Once again, great variety and food quality was excellent.

After such a positive experience, on our next cruise, I won't bother with the dining room at all.

  4. Thanks for the reply. I have researched our cruise thoroughly and was surprised and somewhat skeptical when i read the comment about the spa pass. Would be a nice perk, especially for a winter cruise... but I don't think i would pay extra for it.

I agree about the Anthem having a small thermal suite area. Thats something that NCL does better, even on smaller ships. Every ship has its pluses and minuses.

  5. We went to Bermuda last April on a different cruise line. We love it there and enjoy that its much quieter in the spring versus the summer. But, that also means more limited bus and ferry service.

Its not as warm as the summer, but it feels like you have Horseshoe Bay almost to yourself. There is also so much to see in Bermuda besides the beaches. I would recommend it.

  6. My husband and I booked a mini suite guarantee for a cruise in December. We have been assigned a room but its been changed twice this week!

Is this normal? We've done guarantees on RCL before, so I understand the guarantee process. On our other Gem cruises, we chose our room when we booked it. I'm wondering if it will change again since the cruise is 4 1/2 months away.

Our latest cabin is 11500, which is all the way forward and under the spa. Motion doesn't bother us, so I'm not concerned about that. Has anyone been assigned this room? Did you like it?

Thanks for any info or opinions.

  7. Thanks for all the info! Interesting... We had a cabin assigned to us, 11128, but NCL has now removed it. so, I guess we might see more changes before we cruise in December. I'm not worried about it -- just looking forward to the cruise :)

  8. My husband and I booked a guarantee mini suite for our cruise this December on the Gem. We have sailed the Gem before but didn't book a guarantee on those trips.

Since I'm curious where we might get a cabin, I'm wondering about a few things. Are all the mini suites on Deck 11? Also, do any have obstructed views? I'm guessing not, since the deck is pretty high for lifeboats...

Any info or experience booking a guarantee would be great to hear about.

I've searched the topics but I'm always curious what everyone has to say. Thanks!
