A final update. Posting this on Friday night in Prague. We had a steady light rain in Passau and Regensburg on Thursday. When we were doing our final disembarking THIS morning the captain said he thought there had been just enough rain to allow them to get to Regensburg to start their next cruise. The had only needed about 10cm more river to have made it. It really is touch and go in that part of the Danube right now. I can also report that it POURED rain in Prague for about 30 minutes this afternoon so maybe some of that will run down to the Danube. Good luck and happy cruising!

Yes all. That industrial dock is our current location, only now a third ship has pulled along side us so no one will have a view of anything but another stateroom. Lesson there is maybe don’t pay extra for a balcony. To be clear I am NOT upset with Viking because we cannot travel onward. They do not control the rain or the rivers. I am disappointed that with this apparently being such a commen occurrence, not something that caught them by surprise, they have not come up with a better mooring solution than to just “warehouse” us like this. It would maybe be easier to deal with if I hadn’t paid more for this view.

Epic fail. We made it a very short distance away and got stopped behind a barge that seemed stuck for about 20 minutes. Then it moved but we backed up and pulled into a side slip where whe have tied up to a non-Viking ship in what appears to be a very NOT scenic fuel depot/industrial yard. This is apparently where we will sit for the next few days. HUGEly disappointing because if we had stayed in Passau we could have gotten off the ship at our leisure and explored the town. The plan would seem to be to make a 1:50 hour bus commute to and from Regensburg for the next two days if you have tours booked. Seanm7303- Yes, this is the Viking Var

UPDATE!! We are making a run for it! They have cut our Passau visit short and we are making a run at Regensburg. Pulling away at any moment. Those that had afternoon tours here will be bussed up the river to meet us.

On the way to Passau now. Will find out tonight if we will go to Regensburg. Hopes are not high.

Currently somewhere between Budapest and Vienna on the Viking Var. Looking at the bank, the water level looks low but good weather and smooth sailing so far!

Rained overnight here in Budapest not heavy but constant. Got notice yesterday from Viking that our ship would likely NOT make it past Passau and they would have to bus us to Regensburg. That is not for a few days though so maybe there will be rain to change that. Fingers crossed. We board tomorrow in Budapest.

This is encouraging. Flying out to Budapest tomorrow night. Then getting on the Viking Var Sept 2nd !

Hello all. August 28 I am scheduled to take my first ever cruise. Viking’s “Budapest to Prague (Regensburg port)” river cruise. From reading here I am under the impression that, as of 3 days ago, ships weren’t able to leave/dock at Budapest or cruise beyound Passau. Does this still seem to be correct? If we cannot get on the boat in Budapest does anyone know where our first port will likely be?
