Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Thank you for the information regarding the ferry. I will add the information on Aegean Air to my folder so I will have it handy. Thank you for the information. I will check it out. Enjoy your trip.
  2. @cruisemom42 Thank you for your thoughts. We are definitely planning a visit to Thessaloniki and Vergina. I just was not sure if we could do everything in the time the ship is docked or if it would be better to visit the area after our cruise. As far as our plans for before/after our cruise we are planning to spend 2 or 3 days in Athens. I am thinking that we might want to go to Delphi for a day. Depending on flights or the ferry we would probably spend 1 or 2 nights on Crete. I have not had a chance to look into what we might want to do on Crete yet except visit Knossos and the Heraklion Archealogical Museum. We are not interested in visiting the monasteries so if we do the cruise with Volos we would probably just explore the city unless we find an interesting shore excusion. Do you have any recommendations for the private full day tour around Thessaloniki and Vergina?
  3. We are planning our first trip to Greece and looking for help in determining which would be the best itinerary for what we want to do. We are interested in ancient Greece and archealogical sites, not so much beaches. We will be spending about 7 days on our own either before or after our cruise to visit places that we will not see on the cruise. Cruise 1 Cruise 2 Athens Athens At Sea Santorini - 7:00am - 10:00pm Rhodes - 7:000am - 6:00pm Ephesus - 9:00am - 9:00pm Ephesus - 8:00am - 7:00pm Mykonos - 7:00am - 7:00pm Mykonos - 7:00am - 7:00pm Volos - 8:00am - 7:00pm Santorini - 7:00am - 10:00pm Thessaloniki - 8:00am - 6:00pm Hydra - 8:00am - 6:00pm At Sea Athens Athens I am having a difficult time with Thessaloniki. We want to visit the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, the White Tower, Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai, and the ruins of Vergina. We are looking at a Celebrity cruise in 2025 and do not know what shore excursions will be offered then. Would we be able to accomplish all that we want to do with a private tour at Thessaloniki or shore excursions if offered by Celebrity and we choose Cruise 2? Or do we need more time to see everything? I was leaning towards Cruise 1 so we could visit Rhodes and then rent a car or take the train to Thessaloniki after our cruise for a couple of days. But then maybe Cruise 2 makes more sense and we just skip Rhodes. We are planning to visit Crete on our own after the cruise and spend a few days in Athens. @cruisemom42 @Edinburger or anyyone else who can help which option makes the most sense for what we want to see? Thank you for any guidance
  4. @kathynorth Thank you for your response. Based on your experience we should be fine in one cabin. From the pictures I think the ocean view cabins have a love seat sized coach. The descriptions of the couches are very helpful. This would be our first sailing on an M class ship. We sailed on the Horizon and the Century which predate the M class ships. @Essiesmom Thank you for the pictures. @LeeW Thank you for the information. I will price out the differet options to make sure we are getting the best deal.
  5. We are looking at a Greek Isles Cruise on the Celebrity Infinity in 2025. We are considering a Prime Oceanview or a Veranda Oceanview stateroom. Would the sofa be large enough for our 20yoDD? She is 5'2" so not a tall person. On previous cruises we have shared Oceanview or Veranda cabins with our 2 children and space in the room has not been an issue. In looking at pictures I am not able to tell how big the sofa is. Our DS may go with us also so a Prime Concierge stateroom is not an option. This will be our first cruise on Infinity so I am trying to decide if one stateroom would work. We don't want to end up paying double for a cabin if our DD is the only one in it. Thank you.
  6. @GTJ @Northern Aurora @AKStafford Thank you all for your suggestion to use the transit bus. I started looking into that last night. If I remember correctly the Tundra Wilderness Tour stops at overlooks and other places to see the park not just for wildlife sighting. It doesn't sound like the transit bus does that. I understand you can get off the bus whenever you want and get on another bus. What concerns me is that the NPS website says if you get off a bus you may need to wait up to an hour for the next bus with available seating. There will be 5 of us including my 78 year old mother and 2 kids who would not be very happy if we get off the bus for 10 minutes to look at the scenery/take pictures and need to wait 20-50 minutes for the next bus. We would also need to get to the park on our own from the Princess Denali Lodge. If we purchased transit tickets ahead of time but there was a problem with the lodge shuttle getting us to the park before our bus left would there be an issue changing to a later bus if there was space? I was looking for a relaxing time at Denali and this seems to be becoming stressful.
  7. We have an Alaska Cruisetour booked with Princess Cruises and we paid to upgrade from the Natural History Tour to the Tundra Wilderness Tour in Denali. We leave in 4 days and I just found out that our Tundra Wilderness Tour was cancelled and we are now scheduled for the Natural History Tour again. I know the road is closed and the Tundra tour was shortened but I have no desire to do the Natural History Tour. This is a once in a lifetime trip that I have been dreaming of for 30+ years which we had to move from 2021 due to Covid. I really wanted to get further into the park to see the park and wildlife. I know wildlife sightings are not guaranteed but I have heard it will not be possible to see much wildlife on the shorter tour. Will I be disappointed in the Natural History Tour or am I just getting upset over nothing? I have checked with the company that manages the service for the park and they do not have any availability on our day. At this point I am thinking of canceling the Natural History Tour and asking for a refund. Thank you for any thoughts or words of wisdom.
  8. @cr8tiv1 Thank you for all of the information. Do you know if the inside cabins have fewer outlets than a mini-suite? It will be just DH and I in the inside cabin and we will only have our phones/batteries to charge. There will be 3 in the mini-suite and they will have more devices.
  9. We will be on the Grand Princess in a couple of weeks. We have one inside stateroom and one mini-suite. Does anyone know how many outlets and usb ports are in an inside stateroom or a mini-suite? How many are near the beds and how many are near the sitting/desk areas? Trying to figure out what we need to pack so everyone's devices can be charged. Thanks for any assistance.
  10. Thank you for posting during your cruise. I am enjoying reading along and seeing your pictures. We will be on the Grand at the end of June for 7 nights and I can not wait.
  11. We got quotes from our travel agent for a 2022 Alaska Cruisetour on the day after they went on sale. We were a family of 6 and the price for the 2 bedroom family suite for the 11 Day Denali Explorer EB4 was $21,850 on the Grand Princess and $22,628 on the Sapphire Princess. Both of cruises were at the end of June. We received quotes for the same cruisetour on the Grand Princess for 3 people in a cabin also. Inside 3 people $8,308 total Outside 3 people $10,008 total Balcony 3 people $10,608 total I thought the price for the family suite was reasonable compared to 2 balcony cabins. If we had been 2 adults and 4 children we would have booked the family suite. We were 5 adults and 1 child so we opted for a mini-suite for my mother, adult daughter, and son and an inside cabin across the hall for my husband, adult son, and myself. My mother tends to get annoyed with us so we decided it would be better to have two separate cabins. If you get 2 cabins you will be paying full price for 4 people and only 1 will receive the discounted fare so the family suite may not cost that much more.
  12. @d9704011 and @martincath thank you both for your information. I booked the Fairmont Airport and will probably book the YWCA Hotel. That will give us time to decide what we want to do and cancel one. I do not think we want to be part of the crowds but I do not think we want to be stuck in a hotel room all day.
  13. Thank you for your responses. I realized I should have included we were overnighting after our cruise and would be flying out on a Sunday. We are not morning people so that is good that arriving 2 hours before the flight is sufficient. I have been going back and forth trying to determine if we should stay downtown or at an airport hotel. Each location has its own pros and cons. I just started looking into things to do in Vancouver so we do not have anything in mind yet. We disembark on July 1st so I am thinking I need to book something soon. Are there areas we should stay away from due to large crowds and festivities on the 1st?
  14. Please forgive me if I am not posting my question in the correct area of the forum. We will be departing from our Alaska Cruisetour in Vancouver. Our flight home to Maryland will be on Air Canada out of Vancouver International with a change in planes at Toronto Pearson International. I am trying to decide between two flights and have some questions regarding the custom and immigration process. Will we need to go through the CBP Preclearance at both Vancouver and Toronto or do we only do it at one airport? If so, based on information in previous posts I looked at the current hours for CBP in Toronto and they end at 9:00pm. Our arrival flight would be at either 6:03pm or 7:03pm so if the hours remain the same we should not have any issues going through Preclearance at Toronto. Our departing flight from Vancouver would either be at 10:30am or 11:30am depending on how much time we think we might need in Toronto. Would arriving at Vancouver 3 hours early be too early? I prefer to arrive too early rather than too late but if we only need 2 hours then I do not want to have my family complaining that they could have slept another hour. If I should post this query somewhere else please let me know. Thank you for any assistance.
  15. We will be doing the one way 7 Day Voyage of the Glaciers Southbound. Our itinerary will visit Glacier Bay and Hubbard Glacier. Those were my two requirements for places to visit on the cruise. We are actually doing an Alaska Cruisetour with 5 days in Alaska before we cruise. My mom is going on the trip with us and will enjoy visiting Denali National Park. I only wish the park road was open fully but we will make the best of the situation. This will be a special trip as my mom will celebrate her birthday when we are in Juneau.
