  1. Does this information appear only when you're onboard? I downloaded the Navigator app and right now it's pretty much useless.
  2. The prices I've seen for Seabourn and Viking were much higher than HAL. Maybe I wasn't pricing things correctly?
  3. I booked my cruise a couple of weeks ago and I'm in the process of transferring it to a TA. As I understand it, as long you haven't made you're final payment, you can transfer your booking to a TA. I simply filled out a form which the TA submits to HAL.
  4. "Holland America Line is elevating its partnership with Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and taking those shows to the main stage." Sure sounds like you are correct.
  5. I'm surprised to hear this. I've been cooking with ATK recipes for many years and consider my skills pretty basic. Perhaps I'm not giving myself enough credit.
  6. Just a fun fact, but I think you're referring to the quote, "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!" which is from "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" with Humphrey bogart. (Great movie!) Thanks for posting your progress.
  7. I would be surprised if the eggs truly were powdered. In Navy boot camp, we used gallon containers of pasteurized, pre-scrambled eggs. We would simply dump them onto a grill and scrape them off into a steam tray. Likely that's what cruise ships are using of not whole eggs.
  8. Powdered eggs on a cruise ship? Criminy, even aboard US Navy aircraft carriers we got real eggs. (The preparation was downright criminal, but they were real eggs.)
  9. So they just keel haul with no confinement? (Remember, if you survive, you're pardoned.)
  10. Does Cunard require tuxedos and cocktail dresses for formal nights?
  11. Last November I was in Waikiki and met a very nice couple from Australia. They were staying in the same hotel before embarking on an island cruise. They were BIG TIME cruisers going back decades and I asked a lot of questions. When I mentioned how I thought it would be great to cruise aboard the Queen Mary 2, they both scoffed and simultaneously said, "Stuffy!". It was obvious they didn't like Cunard and didn't recommend that line. They also described a strange cult of people with the most Cunard cruises being "First" and if they found out they wouldn't be first, they wouldn't book the cruise. Not sure I understood all that, but it was fun talking with them. Based on their description, it sounds like Cunard would indeed be too stuffy for me, but I can understand why others would like that line. "Cunard-Lite" works for me.
  12. Where there's a simply answer. 🙂 Thanks, everyone. There is a blank area across from my booked cabin, 5076 aboard Koningsdam. That's why I was wondering about it. It appears only cabins are below and above. Sounds like there's an unfilled niche for non-public space descriptions on cruise ships. I wouldn't be surprised if that information was limited distribution.
  13. When I look at online deck plans, there are many blank areas. Are there any deck plans which show what are in those areas? It would be nice know if the area across the passageway from my cabin is a crew living space or a noisy machine area.
  14. That's a good question. Unfortunately, I don't know. Check the web site. You can likely find the details there.
  15. I visited South Korea in October, 2022. I did not need a visa. I did require a Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA). It's an app you download on your phone. You complete the application using the app which requires a scan of your passport. (A picture of your passport works, but you will have to downsize the resolution to upload the file.) Someone reviews the application and sends you an approval. I could not check into my flight to Korea at the San Francisco airport until I had a K-ETA authorization. Luckily, it took only an hour. But don't wait. Download the app and submit your application. Korea Electronic Travel Authorization website < K-ETA https://www.k-eta.go.kr
  16. Would it be OK for one person? My wife wants to bring her sister along on our cruise and I was thinking about booking an inside cabin for her. (Aboard Koningsdam.)
  17. Reminds me of the promotion Dunkin Doughnuts had years ago: "Buy any half dozen Dunkin Doughnuts at the regular dozen price and receive a second half dozen; free!". A lot of people ordered a dozen doughnuts and wondered why it was full price. The guy at the counter would open the box, point and say, "There's your free half dozen". This was met with much bewilderment.
