  1. Diego Tripaldi was the concierge on Splendour before the drydock in Cadiz and is expecting to stay aboard for the South America season. He said that his language skills in Portuguese will come in handy.

As a Diamond Lounge is being added to the Splendour, he mentioned that a concierge for that lounge will be assigned.

  2. It is so nice to see the activity on this thread - it would be nice if we could all end up on the same sailing at some point !! Just finished 21 great days on the Vision of the Seas out of Istanbul and the Splendour of the Seas is up next.

    :)

  3. I want to thank everyone for their posts. I have read all the posts on this thread over the last four days and they have been very informative. Now I have a much better understanding of solo cruising. Most appreciative, Deirdre :)

Welcome Deirdre !! Many of us on this forum have met on more than one sailing that has been posted here. It is a great thread that is very helpful to all !! :)

  4. Also lists a 9/16/2011 "10 NIGHT HOLY LAND CRUISE" on "VISION

OF THE SEAS" for $399 inside (double occ) with a 175% supplement.

    Not bad!

    I'm in for this one !! :)

When Spirit debuted there was a sailing that wasn't part of the NCL Sky's (this ship Spirit replaced) schedule so it wasn't well advertised. There was no single supplement on this sailing. I was able to book a balcony for about $900. which was incredible for Alaska. It was wonderful! It's a very special ship. I were a couple I'd book 2 singles to have the extra bathroom and storage space since it would be the same price as 1 double.

Cool, good idea & great deal ! Thanks to this thread I was able to get in on a Gem TA, and Sun Alaska sailing, but, missed the Epic Studio deals that were posted about a year ago !! :)

  5. Just found one (thanks to a CC member posting it) on Norwegian Spirit leaving New Orleans on Sun. NO SINGLE SUPPLEMENT...have booked and now trying to get stuff together

the Spirit leaving on the 4th also has no supplement.

I hope that this is a trend for NCL. In the past, low or no single supplements with Norwegian have been few and far between. :)

  6. It is just a bit early for Royal Caribbean Transatlantic deals, as the final payments aren't due until the next few weeks. However, I found a good deal on an Inside Guarantee, Voyager of the Seas, Barcelona to New Orleans on October 30, 2011 for 13 days. The deal seems to come and go depending on the time of day and day of the week. $861.72 all inclusive. If the Guarantee fare isn't there, keep checking the Royal Caribbean site.

  7. Walking from downtown to the Port of Miami is indeed possible and I have done it several times. You will also see many crew members doing exactly the same thing everyday. There is a crosswalk at the American Airlines Center that will lead to the overpass that goes to the ships. Although sometimes loud due to traffic, it is an easy walk for any healthy person and there is no reason not to walk.

  8. I just found this repositioning deal. I know, I know, airfare will be a challenge, but, the cruise fares are dirt cheap.

Grandeur of the Seas, TransAtlantic, 14 night, April 24, 2011, Single Inside, From Colon, Panama to Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Total Price : $675.57 (taxes included)

The other cabin categories seem very cheap too. A Grand Suite is $1699, single, before tax.

EDIT: Spirit Air from Fort Lauderdale to Panama City on April 23, 2011, is currently $114.00 including taxes.

  9. The Carnival Splendor is in San Francisco to be repaired at Pier 70. Here is a link and the story:

Carnival Splendor Arrives in San Francisco for Drydocking and to Complete Repairs

After attempting to sail on Wednesday and Thursday, the cruise ship Carnival Splendor finally departed San Diego under its own power on Friday, accompanied by two tugs. As of Sunday morning, around 05:00 local time, the ship was approaching San Francisco under its own power at roughly 12 knots. The ship will be drydocked in San Francisco to complete repairs and is expected to return to service on February 20th. The 215′ tall ship could not be drydocked in San Diego as it could not fit under the Coronado Bridge which has a 200′ maximum vertical clearance. The Pier 70 dry dock in San Francisco was expanded three years ago and is now the only drydock on the West Coast capable of repairing a ship the size of the Splendor.

The Splendor was crippled by a fire in one engine room on November 8th while cruising approximately 200 miles off Mexico’s Baja California coast, stranding over 4,000 passengers and crew. It is still unclear why a fire in one of the two engine rooms should have completely disabled the ship. Not long after the fire, two US Coast Guard Marine Safety Alerts revealed that the ship’s fixed CO2 system had failed and that firefighting manuals and safety posters did not agree with the ship as built.

  10. One thing that I forgot to mention earlier is about internet at the Miami Airport Marriott. If you would like to use the internet in your room, you can sign into the free wifi in the lobby, then go to your room and the free internet will continue for 24 hours. This saves quite a bit over the usuall internet fees. This also works at the Wyndham Miami Airport.

  11. I just got a single on RCI Jewell JAN 3 11 day . Past guest, senior , resedence discounts all add up to a balcony center of ship huge discount . $1249 total with taxes and port fees . Plus I got RCI sale with a $100 room credit which brings it down to $1149 for 11 days with a balcony . I think it was a 120% suplement . I also got great air on Expedia by spliting airlines . got good air times RD trip $249 Rd trip MI. to FT lauderdale . Its about half of airline rates . I also got 4star Lugano 8mi from airport on hotwire for $139 its listed on most sites at $299 . Its a little out but Im coming in the day before and have nothing plained . Its on innercoastal so I can take water taxi around town and they will take to cruise ship free . Im ready to go . CARL

Great work Carl ! I am staying at Il Lugano next week before my Grandeur of the Seas sailing. Tell me about the free transportation to the ship. Thanks in advance.

  12. I've stayed at the Marriott Miami Aiport several times prior to cruises and enjoyed the hotel. The staff is friendly, the gym is great, and there is good food nearby. If you need a pharmacy or grocery store, they are not too far away, I've walked to both a couple of times.

  13. Here is a map of the port...17th ST and the Embassy Suites is at the top. You can see pier two which Princess uses most of the time...but we have also boarded on Pier 29 when two was also in use.

It is a large port... even tho you might think it is walkable, it is a distance with luggage and all...worth the few bucks for a shuttle or taxi.

At Pier Two, you will be the first ones dropped off by the shuttle.

    Thanks for posting.

  14. Just wondering.. is the Compass Deli an additional charge? I read somewhere that there is a charge for gelato.??

    Where is the Sarrentos pizza?

Yeah, there is a charge for gelato at Lattetudes on Deck 5. Sorrento's is located in front of the Compass Deli on Deck 12, no additional charge for either.

  15. Hello all SF cruisers and ship lovers.

We are entering the busy month for ships in SFO.

Tomorrow we will have three ships in town. The Sapphire Princess will be the only one that will be doing a turn (meaning debarking and embarking passengers), the others (X Millenium and NCL Pearl) will be day stops.

The Sapphire will be at pier 27, Millennium at pier 35 and the Pearl at pier30/32.

Enjoy the views and see some great ships.

    Ed (working Pier 27 tomorrow)

We'll actually have 4 ships tomorrow (Wed Sept 22). Radiance of the Seas arrives today at Pier 35, but overnights and departs tomorrow at 2:00pm, making way for Millennium's 2:30pm arrival.

Thanks for posting, this fall's cruise season in San Francisco has snuck up on me. :)

  16. One of my co-workers told me to check out the RCCL website for some great rates. Even with the 200%, I priced some of the short four day cruises under $100 a day!

When I get to work, going to see if anyone is off the first week in November and try to take a quick cruise before my big one!!!

Carnival wants twice as much for almost the same ports.

The November 1, 2010, sailing of the Grandeur of the Seas still has some great rates. The trip starts in Fort Lauderdale and ends in Colon, Panama. When originally posted there was no single supplement, but, I think has changed now.

Let us know what you find !! :)

  17. Can this be found on RCCL web site? I was unable to locate their Tuesdays sales event. I really want to cruise on the Mariner before she leaves CA. Thank you!

Using the brochure as a guide you can see that the Mariner only has one sale cruise I believe. These cruises will be on Royal Carib site my tomorrow (actually later today) morning

The link that jms provided is working for me. SoCalCruiser, if you are interested in booking a Tuesday special, just book at www.royalcaribbean.com on Tuesday where they are listed as "Sales Event Pricing".

Unfortunately, Mariner solo deals have been few since spring, but, lets hope for some great prices soon. ;)
