Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Thank you all very much for your inputs! We will stick to the Deck 5.
  2. Wow, that I didn't know! Great to know! Thank you for your input!
  3. Were you deck 5, in the midship? How did you like it? My first cruise trip will be on Wind as well and I booked for classic veranda suite 524. We're thinking whether it was a good choice or not.
  4. Hello. This is going to be our first cruise. We will sail from Tromso to Svalbard in Silver Wind this summer. Thanks for all kind replies on my previous questions. We decided to persue our plan to Svalbard instead of other options. Although, I was shortly tempted to change to Silver Endeavour next year as the ship looks so beautiful. But we will stick to the plan. When we booked, I chose 524. Because, I tend to seasick. I have never been on cruise. But I learnt that I did seasick on a boat excusion in the South Pacific many years ago. The sea was very rough.... Since then, I always take medication when I'm on a boat just in case. Now, we are thinking perhaps higher deck might be better and more interesting, for example it might have better view. We presume that the the Arctic Ocean in summer should be calm (hopefully). Hence, we are thinking whether we might change to deck 6. But available cabin is up front which is 606 which I think it might be bit too front. I see that now the same cabin type on deck 7 is sold out. It appears that higher deck is more popular than lower deck. So my questions are, does deck 6 offer better view than deck 5? is there advantage of front cabin on deck 6 or so? changing to front cabin on deck 6 from midship cabin on deck 5 is good idea for this cruise? Having read https://boards.cruisecritic.com.au/topic/1009479-advice-on-choosing-a-cabin-on-silver-wind/ I understand that an advange 524 which is perhaps one of the best location in terms of avoiding seasick. (Please correct me if I misunderstood.) But I'm not sure if there is any other advantage. Also, I understand that in case of cabins in the front, there could be bit noise from the anchor. I hope I can hear some advices on cabin selection on Arctic Circle cruise. I highlighed yellow for deck 5 which we have at present, and green for deck 6 which we are interested in chaning to. Thank you.
  5. I was looking for review for Silver Wind. This is great review and very helpful. Thank you!
  6. I just looked for the Endeavour. The ship looks so beautiful! I nearly wanted to change from this year to next year for the ship. But after all, this is expedition cruise so destination is all important. Glad to hear that you booked for Svalbard. Hope you will enjoy.
  7. Thank you very much for sharing it. That helps a lot!
  8. Willma, I hope you will make to Svalbard sometime!
  9. Oh. That’s a shame. We’ve booked the same cruise but for this July. We were thinking if we don’t go this year (getting to Tromso is quite complicated), we might go next year. But I see that’s no longer an option. Do you think you might try to go this July by any chance?
  10. Oh, I didn't know about this. Thanks a lot for sharing this.It sounds like I should never drive there! If we go to Alaska, we were going to join 10 days tour. When I just checked the itinerary, I see it's crossing the Arctic Circle on the Dalton Highway. I will definately need to do more research. Thanks again.
  11. This really helps to understand about expedition crusing. Thank you.
  12. Thank you for sharing the lovely photo. Actually, Iceland - Grimsey Island is one of list as well. As you said before it's on the seabed! I didn't know there're pola bears Churchill. Thanks!
  13. Thank you for your reply. This is our first cruise trip. So we are bit unsure about cruise trip. Could you tell me if the Silver wind up to your expectations?
  14. If we go to Alaska, we won’t cruise. It will be road trip.
  15. Hello. Our aim is to travel to the arctic circle in summer. We don't have preferred place as long as it’s arctic circle and there are interesting things to see and do. We booked Svalbard cruise with Silver sea, but thinking we may cancel it and go to Alaska instead. Because of two reasons: a) we’re not sure whether spending this much money (over $20,000 for 2) will be indeed worth for expedition cruise(silver wind). The cabin is smaller than non-expedition cruise while this expedition cruise is quite more pricy than non-expedition cruise. b) cruise to Svalbard seems only all about nature while it involves more activities in Alaska. We’d like to see things on the way to the arctic. Has anyone travelled both of Svalbard and Alaska? Could You compare how it’s different? Also, I’d like to hear if anyone has travelled to Svalbard with silversea whether it was very satisfied or not. Thank you.
