Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I know the question was for Uber/Lyft but try to Use google maps to find public transportation from LAX to the San Pedro cruise ship terminal— it’s reliable, many different options, relatively quick and direct, and cheap as can be at $1.75 each way! When I looked up Uber/Lyft rides at the time I flew in/out was estimating $75+ Each way .. the Princess transfer bus from LAX was $47 per person each way last Saturday for a 4 day princess cruise I got off Southwest Airlines at terminal 1, walked with luggage for 4-5 minutes, hopped on the 232 metro bus then transferred to the silver J bus line to San Pedro, walked 5-6 minutes and was at the cruise check in.. total time was under 2 hours on a Saturday morning… when returning from the cruise Wednesday morning I did it a bit different- walked the 5-6 minutes to the nearest Metro Silver J line, rode that to the Metro green C line commuter train, then the 232 bus line, 4-5 minute walk to lax terminal 1.. again in well under 2 hours as was a weekday with more frequent buses and trains… $3.50 total cost round trip… I did have plenty of time from my flight to check in/sail away as well as the disembarking/outgoing flight… none of the buses/trains were full/packed, easily got on with one roller and a backpack, felt safe on every transit means… bonus of being able to say I rode in a car, plane, bus, train, ship, and boat on this trip— should have rented a scooter/moped in San Diego or Ensenada! LA metro has a electronic card and Apple/android app called TAP that was easy to put money on and use…
  2. I haven’t ridden the The vintage streetcars (restored 1930’s-1960’s streetcars from all over the country, each one has a story) in quite a long time, but I wouldn’t doubt that they are not very large luggage/mobility scooter friendly— could be wrong. The walk is easy from the BART/ferry building along the embarcadero, just under a mile walk with a wide sidewalk the whole way, lots of other tourists as well as tons of people jogging and biking, probably 20-30 minutes with large roller luggage. Great views too! From SJC or south of SFO, take caltrain to Millbrae, transfer over to BART at the same station and then take BART to Embacadero… caltrain ends way too far from to cruise ship terminal, just under 3 miles
  3. I’d say that splitting the group up into two-three Ubers/Lyfts, expect a fare of $45-65 for that ride per car.. I don’t know of any supershuttle 6-10 passenger van companies out there, but has to be a few, and probably expensive Is everyone in the group ok with walking a bit? are you going to a fishermans wharf hotel or the cruise ship terminal? If it was me, I’d take BART from SFO to EMBARCADERO station, walk 200 yards to the front of the ferry building to hop on a MUNI vintage streetcar to travel to either fishermans wharf or the cruise ship terminal… From the EMBARCADERO BART station the cruise ship terminal is about 1 mile walk, fishermans wharf is another mile further download the “clipper card” app, it is good on all of the Bay Area transit systems!
  4. I noticed a decline in the past two months, used to get at least 3 a week…. I did get one this past Wednesday about the “Black Friday casino specials”
  5. My medallion app says 1130-230 for my voyage this Saturday the 25th, we should be there by 10 or so… anyone else flying down from sfo-lax Saturday morning? 655am southwest flight
  6. I can’t remember my points or how much I won and lost on the Alaskan cruise last year, but it was enough to get a thank you card from the casino manager while on board and lots of emails after the voyage with “casino member only cruise” offers as well as the casino tournament trips. I’m sure the more you play the more and better offers you will receive just like the Nevada and Indian casinos do. The discovery 4 day sampler November 25th -29th I booked was on a casino offer, interior cabin for $79+161 port fees. I bet they’ll get more $$ out of me and into those slot machines! 🤞 I find some loose machines on my trip so I can go home with more money that I came on board with!
  7. thanks for all the reports! I’ll be on the “Discovery 4 day Adam Savage west coast sampler” November 25-30th… I will definitely be in the casino, TRYING to do the same daily $$ self limit strategy… would love to see the full slot machine or their name/themes…. I did pretty good in the casino on an Alaskan cruise last year, nowhere as good as you on this trip! Hope you enjoy the last few days of your voyage and your luck in the Casino continues!
