  1. Just move down to Southern California or take a short trip. In 2017 we will have the choice of cruises on the Star, Emerald and Ruby. Unfortunately? two of those options have SHARE rather than Sabatini's.

Move down to LA? No ship is worth that. Lol lol lol

  2. I read that each passenger can bring on board one bottle of wine each to be consumed in the cabin without charge.

I also read that there is a $15 cover charge for wine brought on board and consumed in the dining room.

Would this be for additional wine brought on board or just the one per passenger?

Is the coffee card still good for expresso drinks on more than one cruise (I know brewed coffee is limited to one cruise).

    Thanks

If I read your question right, yes 1 bottle per passenger for the cabin. If you bring more than one and pay the corkage fee, you can take it into the dining room. Yes a coffee card has punches, for espresso drinks. The coffee card only has unlimited use for fresh brew coffee.

  3. We just returned from a terrific transatlantic cruise on Caribbean Princess. We had a great time. The crew and staff support was terrific. There were a few glitches, weather caused missing a port and the immigration process for the UK was pretty screwed up.

However, on our roll call after cruise postings list it as the cruise from hell and several posters stated they would never cruise on Princess again. That certainly may be their view and their choice.

We know why we cruise and why we choose Princess. But the criticisms raised by the posters make us wonder why they cruise and why they chose Princess.

Perhaps, we are in a very small minority who care less who the CD is and what they do. We do not play trivia or bingo or cruise to be entertained, we entertain ourselves.

We cruise to go and to explore new areas, see new things, meet new people.

We choose Princess because to us they deliver the most bang for the buck. We enjoy the perks they provide in their loyalty program. We enjoy interaction with the staff and learning about their lives in their home countries.

Question: Why do you cruise and why on Princess?

We loved and laughed at your thread. The only thing I can add, is we don't care to see the menus or patters, of any upcoming cruises. We will enjoy the cruise no matter who the Captain, CD, or even the chief are.

  4. Pardon me for tacking this question on to this thread, but I didn't want to start a new one and since this is a suite amenity-related question, I hope this as good a place as any to ask: For the complimentary embarkation evening specialty restaurant offer, does one have to make a reservation? And, if so, how far in advance should this be done?

Just call the dine line. They know your calling from a suite, and you get priority. On our last cruise they had us in Sabatini's, I don't like Italian food so they changed it to CG.

  5. In my opinion, $58 extra for my wife and I to eat at Crown Grill is getting a little high.

We've eaten there many times and lately it seems the meat quality has gone down substantially.

The New York is much thinner now and tough, pushing me towards the Filet that has no flavor.

Does anyone know when they seem to have changed from USDA Choice to USDA Select?

I can definitely tell my last steak was Select due to the lack of marbling and toughness. - No good steakhouse serves "Select" grade meat.

As a comparison, try Costco's steaks on the grill and you'll see how much more tender they are. (USDA Choice)

I hope I read your post wrong, are you comparing buying steaks at Costco to eating in the CG. I can buy good steaks at Safeway too, but I'm not cooking it onboard. Tell me what Restaurant you can get this quality of meal, for $29.

  6. I saw a crane in the background of one person's picture of the empty pool. It looked like it was over the aft part of the ship picking up something or dropping something else off. Hopefully the ship is not still a construction zone as you head North. Looking forward to your updates when you come back! :)

My DW and I were at pier 27 yesterday, and they seem to be boarding early. We could also hear construction workers being paged onboard the ship. We were shocked to see the Sun leaving so late. Also we didn't see any delivery trucks, or supplies around the ship. We guessed the supplies were loaded at the dry dock.

  7. Thank you. We are debating if we want to stay at a hotel the night before or drive up. We are 3 hours away. I think a hotel I San Francisco may be too pricey. It's not like when we leave out of San Pedro. We find deals down there.

My are also about 3 hours away, and since the new terminal was built we enjoy going out of SF. We drive or take Bart on our cruises. We have rented one ways cars, hertz has a dropoff facility in the wharf. We leave early in the morning, and enjoy our time around the wharf before the cruise. We are usually among the first to board. It just depends if you don't mind getting up early.

  8. Why not try asking the MD to NOT give your table away until you are at least XX minutes late?

Let him know your mom is old and slow;)

This is the best answer for all cruises, not just Alaska.

  9. I like and use EZair. However, when I flew to Canada, and home from Ft. L., I purchased my own tickets, United and Southwest, much cheaper.

Because my cruises are longer, not to the Caribbean, EZair makes sense for long one way flights, 2014 Heathrow, last year Barcelona and in May home from Denmark. I don't fly enough to have miles, no matter where I check, one way flights are cheaper on EZair.

I looked at EZ air for our CB cruise from FL. I didn't want a flight with 3 stops and 3 connections from Calif to Fl.

  10. I know Princess doesn't allow EZ check on cruises less than 6 days. What if your on a b2b, and the first leg is 8 days, and the second is 6 days? Also the cruise is also listed as 14 days, we added the extra 6 days a couple of months later. I figured CC members will know the answer, instead of calling Princess.

  11. I am looking for people who have actually brought their own clubs with them on a cruise. Did Princess stow them for you when you didn't need them? Did they bring them up when requested for a port day?? Thank you very much if you have actually done this...

Oh for the good old days of Ship escorted golf outings, and having golf pros on the ship. It really wasn't that long ago. I just kept the clubs in the cabin.

  12. Are you kidding me?? This is an unnecessary comment. Toweling didn't ignite itself. A cigarette likely did that and maybe it wasn't even due to toweling, perhaps it just smoldered on the floor matting and caught that on fire. It is the most likely assumption by trained fire investigators and NTSB that this file was a result of a burning cigarette butt thrown overboard.

This is a very nice thread with someone who experienced first hand the scariest thing at sea and is taking the opportunity to laude the wonderful crew. Please don't spoil it

My DW and I were on the Sta ( port side mid ships ) in 2012 when we found a cigarette butt on our balcony. We called our Stewart to ask about it, the next thing we know Security officers arrived, and took it, I guess for evidence. I don't know if they where it came from or not. Princess doesn't full around, they mean it when they say "No Smoking." It makes staying on the balcony, so much nicer.

  13. Hi folk's,

Well I did it I took an up sell to a suite now wonder what was I thinking. Yes it was an excellent deal as we are paying the same price a mid ship mini cost (was already in a mini) for an owners suite. Wouldn't have done this for a penthouse. Now for my questions as this is a first for us.

Anybody ever stay in the Baja B735 Suite? We have been in an aft suite on NCL and liked it very much so thruster noise isn't an issue.

Do we tip the concierge would it be 5.00 a day?

I generally tip our cabin steward for any extras so that would be no different unless he/she isn't part of the auto tips.

Plan on doing formals this trip (first time in years) how many days would it take for Mike's suit to get refreshed and returned. Don't plan on using the cleaning service I'm picky about my things.

Not big drinkers I try different things throughout the cruise and sometimes wine with dinner. Can we swap the mini bar out for all diet coke?

I get a coffee card each trip does the suite lounge have brewed coffee 24/7? I'm up at 4-4:30 every day (yes even on vacation) and like my coffee.

Thanks as always I know some of these questions are answered but can't locate them. Other than a few general things not much in the way of suite posts.

    Laura

The best perk is Sabatini's for breakfast. The one problem you might run into, you will never want to return to any other type of cabin. When we took our anniversary cruise, we had our first suite. We only want the suite life now. We even canceled our Alaskian cruise, because it was on a balcony. We can't cruise as much, but we sure enjoy it more.

  14. The only guarantee about the bubbly waiting for you in the cabin is that it will be wet. We took one sip and dumped the remainder. Think sitting in a glass until it is warm and flat.

I thought that was soda pop, with bubbles. Even in a suite you don't get wine glasses, unless you ask. Usually the first thing we do is buy a couple of glasses of wine, and enjoy that on the balcony.

  15. We were on the Pacific in December on the 14 day, 50th Anniversary cruise to Mexico. There was some roughness sailing down the Baja coast and between Cabo and Puerto Vallarta. I had to use scopolamine patches for three days of our cruise. We were on deck 6 aft. We had friends all the way forward on deck 6 and their cabin was rocking and rolling for several of those days.
We were on the Grand a couple of weeks before you, and we were rocking and rolling in the same area. We have been to Mexico four times, and that was a first. It was so bad that items in the bathroom ended on the floor. The Grand is a large ship.

  16. Yes, you get it all at once. They will leave the lids on the plates if you so desire, but you do need to be ready to eat every course one after another.

My DW loved eating in our Suite on our last cruise. It was OK, but I didn't enjoy the meal as I would getting them course by course. On our next cruise, I signed us up for TD. I will admit I liked eating on the balcony, maybe we do the UBD. They come course by course.

  17. That was my initial thought...who would want to see him in person after watching that video. :D

Seriously though, I don't understand the part of the complaint that it would hurt their ticket sales. Either you like Barry Manilow or not. You certainly wouldn't take a cruise in lieu of going to see him.

I think Swank will have more culpability here. Princess paid them for the rights. If Swank didn't have the rights to sell they seem more guilty. And Princess showed the film in International Waters.

On that note, no loss to me for it to be pulled from the line up.

Since its in international waters, you can have a whale as judge and a course Sharks will be the Attorneys.

  18. We added a b2b on the CB, but we're not able to get the same cabin. Since we need to move, how do we get our luggage to the new cabin? We are experience cruisers, but have never done a b2b.

    Thanks
