Got our pre-cruise e- mail for the Feb 3 sailing of Ruby From Captain John Foster
Too bad - we were hoping to see Captain Tony Yeoman again - he was very professional, accommodating and informative as captain.
Captain Foster is also excellent, very approachable. :)
He also came to our M&G and spent alot of time talking and answering questions.

Great info.

That picture is actually from the Sapphire Princess. The nacelles are capped on the Sapphire and Diamond. On the Coral and Island, they are open and do help to channel air down to the gas turbine which is located in the funnel. And no, when they are operating, you can't hear any difference...
Coral Nacelles by RickEk, on Flickr
When I binged it online your photo(s) came up, figured it was the Diamond or Sapphire do to the difference in the lack of decoration around them that the Island/Coral have.
When the Island/Coral were first built there was a couple of photos (provided by Princess) floating around showing the actual turbines in a soundproof sealed room. I was trying to find them.

From RickEK.....
-
They are for decoration only.
The gas turbines are located in the engine room.

Cruisefreaks - we are going on the Emerald Princess....
Desert Cruizer -thank you .. my DH has the very same problems and I am thinking he will just need assistance like your friend. It's nice to know if the terminal is jam packed I may be able to get him some assistance. I haven't ruled out buying a "transport chair" in case he needs one during the cruise.
Your welcome.

I guess I'm a bit confused ... we just booked a 10 day cruise for November of 2013. The Deposit Confirmation I received from my TA includes the new smoking policy as well as a "Wheelchair Notification"... which states in part "If you require the use of a wheelchair onboard or ashore, you must bring your own, without exception, ship wheelchairs are reserved for emergency use ONLY" .... and then it goes on to address storing the wheelchair in the cabin etc etc etc...... Does this only apply "during" the cruise itself and not during embarkment or disembarkment?
Yes......
During the cruise that has been the case for awhile to bring your own.
Embarkation/Disembarkation there will be chairs available and crew to assist. ;)

Hello Putterdude, I noticed last night when checking our Set Sail Pass and special services, which is where I indicated a wheel chair for my friend, a form, but in looking it over it seemed to apply more to someone who required O2 and other needs. I wanted to be sure I have all the necessary paperwork for her as this is her very first cruise and I have never had to inquire for such services before. I will make sure she has all her documents and will stress those to her until she tells me to hush.:D I did read during my search, where I will have to go into the terminal and request a wheelchair from a specific window, there won't be one waiting for us. I will get with my TA as she said they will put in a request from her office. Thank you everyone for your information.
Gay
There are Princess reps in the terminal, contact one of them.
As noted above there are plenty of wheelchairs available. :)

The hours are 12-1:30pm.

How long ago was this?
Look at those plate designs!
They were replaced 2-3 years ago. ;)

Does anyone know what the cab fare is or shuttle fare going from Miami Airport to the cruise port in ft. Lauderdale.
Thank You,
Gary Tyler
Cab will run you around $75 to $100.

Sapphire and Diamond were built by a different, more upscale builder than the rest of the Grand class ships, and have a promenade deck with true lounge chairs.
Upscale? I think not. The Italians have the handle on that. :)
After all they (Mitsubishi) did let the Diamond catch fire and burn down to the hull.
-
Why? There is still plenty of room to walk by. Are you saying you have to walk at the railing the entire time? With the loungers gone it's the only place to rest our feet.
Where did I say that I needed to walk by the rail???
I said the deck was blocked completley for people to walk by.
-
Actually, I hate to tell you, but you won't even have a full recliner on the Emerald. Teak chairs, the back reclines a slight bit, but nothing to lift your feet. Sometimes people take two, one for their feet, which is fine when no one else is around, but since that is seldom the case, it's actually quite rude. I, too, have noticed the backs don't always work, but it must be quite difficult to maintain something heavily used like they are in the salt air 24/7.
Whats also rude is placing the chairs at the railing and blocking the deck completley for anyone to walk by.
-
what happened to the wonderful aft balcony pictures that used to be on the first page of this thread:mad:
Think the OP may have deleted them or changed them in Photobucket.
This will cause the link to the photos to be broken. :(
We use photobucket and had the smae thing happen.

Thanks Melissa, glad you enjoyed our City and it's buildings, you really do have to look up when walking round, pleased that I was able to offer some help to you - laughed at your Curly Wurly moment, we're like that when we get Baby Ruths - doesn't take much to please us does it??? US for Baby Ruths and Canada for Tim Hortons Hot Chocolate - sorted!!!
All the best!
Maureen
I'd be looking for Frys Cream Bars. :D

We have not seen a bigger model in a long time.
Or any model for that matter recently.
We have a bunch of the larger and some smaller ones.
-
All the major changes on the Golden, Crown Grill/Window suites/additional suites sky deck/moving the casino etc were completed in the drydock May 2009.
No additional changes since. ;)
-
Kamloops50 do you have a link like that for the golden princess? Or do you know how I would go about finding it?
That site was only made for the Coral/Island.
I have never seen one like that for any other ships.
-
Do you think that the rooms below the casino would be smelly?
Not at all.

We are cruising the Panama Canal on Island Princess 22nd March Los Angeles to Fort Lauderdale and would like to know some recommendations where to stay the night before we sail. - I thought somewhere near the pier would be great. Any suggestions????????????? Thanks Judy:):)
Hyatt Place on 10th St
Embassy Suites 17th St
Renaissance on 17th St
These are within a few blocks of the pier and close to shops. ;)
Approx $15 cab from the airport to these hotels and maybe under $10 from these hotels to the pier.
