  1. We were on the same cruise. I can agree with a lot of your review. We didn't get to all of the eateries either. Cocktails were strong & costly. We've been to all the ports before. We were cruising for the ship.

Would we go again....maybe if the price was right & not sailing to full capacity.

  2. I've never experience a problem bringing my CPAP machine. Carnival provided me with an extension cord. I had to pay for a gallon of distilled water. Cabin steward delivered to our cabin.

  3. I don't know who you speak of, but we were in STT last March for 1 week. We booked with Max Charters. Capt. Hunter, his sister & dog Finn. He had room for 6 passengers (small sailboat) We sailed over to a beach on St. John. We snorkeled & swam....beautiful beach. We were provided with lunch that was very tasty. Sailing back was awesome! I love it! Excursion was 6 hrs. from the American Yacht Club at Red Hook.

We "left" Royal many years ago and switched to Celebrity. We prefer the more modern, loungy design and the quieter ambiance without water slides etc. on smaller ships. So that´s what we are not looking forward to on MSC. But as I once said: every cruise is what you make of it. And we always make the best of it and newer had a best cruise.

We just booked a few days at a spa hotel in Abano Terme after the cruise and two nights in Venice for New Years - so overall it will be a great escape 👍

    Sounds wonderful!

Hopefully passengers will conduct themselves according to Celebrity protocols.  And if not hopefully they will be dealt with.  Room confinement or a one way ticket home.  I’m pretty sure there will be some who will push boundaries and seeing them booted off the ship would make others think twice.  I so want to cruise again...

I'm American, & I can see my fellow Americans making an a$$ out of themselves because they think the rules aren't for them. They can't get on an airplane & follow the rules.

At this point, I do appreciate "everyone's" responses to my question. I started "again" (probably about 5 times doing this), trying to figured just what was not paid from Carnival, and what was.  What is strange is that my PVP put 4 "different" amounts on the credit card, which were to cover the 4 rooms. as  well as another small credit that I have no clue what it was pertaining to.  She said she had put the transfers, taxes in the credits as well, and that is possible.  HOW she ever came up with the 4 "different" amounts is beyond me for the credits, since 3 of the rooms were the "exact" price!  I believe, thank God, it was only around $400 that was not refunded back, so I have decided to just let things go.  Probably trying to have her "explain" to me would be more confusing, as when we were going over what was owed, she seemed to have a few problems, but I'm so thankful that I DID receive back most of the money!

I don't know all the "ins & outs" of how Carnival works their specials or pricing. My cruise was canceled March 20th for my cruise on May 30th. I completed the form requested a refund.  I just received all my money back even the deposit.

Since port charges are refundable (I had to cancel a cruise a week before cruising and I was refunded port charges only) can I insure only the trip portion and not the port charges?  I'm asking because to buy cruise insurance under $3000 was a lot cheaper than buying it over $3000. and the port charges pushes the total purchase price to just over 3K.  I just want to make sure I'm insured and not have an issue if I were to need it.  I find insurance and the small print so confusing.

    Thanks

What about taxes? Are taxes refundable?

We sailed from Miami for the first time Oct 26th.  Scheduled a pickup with an Uber driver we used the night before and he was right on time.  Now I don't know if it was his first time navigating the port area but he didn't know where to go and missed to exit for Terminal A so had to go way back around and with our help got it right.  We pulled up and finally got someone to show us where the handicap drop off was, it was just a little further down from the regular drop off.  When the porter saw my dad needed a wheelchair he went inside and asked for one then took our bags.  A guy comes out with a wheelchair and iPad in hand and said he would escort us inside.  He took us inside, up an elevator then checked us in on his iPad then right through security.  No line whatsoever.  After security he handed us over to another person/wheelchair who then escorted us right on the ship.  We were sent and email a week or so prior saying there would be an inspection and not to show up for boarding until 1 pm, now we know like most others that were there early they always end up boarding almost on time.  We were onboard around 11:15.  I think it took maybe 15 min from the time we pulled up to stepping foot on the ship, it was the best/fastest experience ever and we thought our last boarding in FLL in a sky class suite was fantastic.

Now to debarkation day.  If you need wc assist they had you report to the On Air Lounge.  My parents went down a bit before us so by the time we got there at 9 someone was ready to push him off, there were a few lines along the way but not much it was pretty quick.  They have the new facial recognition so if you have a passport that part was quick.  Then came the cluster F that was the taxi line.  They parked my dad and the luggage at the front of the line, my mom & I waited with him and my Husband had to go get in the very long line.  We waited around an hour for a taxi!!  They sent a ton away without putting people in them, the lady working said something about them not having some sort of ticket or permit and they would then overcharge you.  I don't understand why they let them clog up the traffic if they need some sort of permit.  If anyone has a better suggestion please let me know we are not looking forward to that mess next month.  When we got in a cab finally the line was twice as long!

We use Lyft on debarkation day....never waited more than 5 minutes for a car.

I loved the area!  Close to restaurants, bars, stores, bakeries, Metro.  There are LOTS of hotels nr Pl Catalunya, at all price points, as you will see on whichever search site you use.

We were near La Ramblas, so if we wanted to visit the Boqueria Market or Placa Reial to eat, we could either walk down Las Ramblas with lots of people, or take the small back roads (and alleys) with fewer people.  We felt totally safe either way.  The architecture is beautiful, regardless of which route you choose. We so enjoyed looking at the facades, balconies of bldgs on every street.

As I said in my first post, we were 3 women and 1 guy, ages 60-70.  We NEVER felt unsafe.  Granted, we held our cross body bags a little closer in crowded places like the Market or walking on Las Ramblas, but that's a common sense thing to do anywhere.   One night when we left dinner at Placa Reial, it was 9/10pm and we walked back roads/alleys until we finally found Las Ramblas.  Lots of people about at that time and again we never felt unsafe.  Many of the back roads are now pedestrian-only roads with stores, restaurants, bars, hotels and apts, so there were always people around.

I don't know what tourist attractions you plan to see so hard to say if it's close.....

The hotel is close to the Metro which will bring you close to most attractions.

To visit Sagrada Familia we were going to walk 2 blocks to Pl Catalunya then take the Metro, but it was such a nice day and we were enjoying the city so much, we decided to walk.  Afterwards we took a cab back to the hotel, maybe 10E.

p.s.  you might start your own thread if you want recommedations for a hotel

Thanks for the reply. You've been very helpful. I booked Hotel Lleo

We stayed at the Hotel Lleo.  Ideal location ....2 blocks from La Ramblas and Pl Catalunya.  It was also convenient for the Aerobus from the airport...disembarked at Pl Universitat and walked 2 blocks to the hotel. ( 20 minute ride, 5.9E).  My aunt arrived from the UK at 10pm and took the aerobus; she found our hotel easily and felt safe walking in the dark. (Locals tend to eat dinner at 9/10pm so the streets are quite busy until midnite.)   There's a small lap pool on the roof, and a sunning area just above that.  B'fast buffet with cold/hot cereals, pastries, yogurt, a potato casserole, eggs, sausage, juice, fruit, coffee, etc .

I reserved 2 of the basic rooms, so no view or balcony. I reserved a yr in advance so it was only 130E per nite, incl b'fast. In the hotel/tripadvisor photos the older basic rooms are the ones with white bedspreads.  Now that I've been to Barcelona and loved it, I'd probably spring for a Superior Room (renovated) with a balcony .

The hotel /room was clean, comfortable bed,  the staff were friendly, and it was well located.  They held our luggage for a few hrs after checkout because we went to see a Casteller performance (don't miss if you get the chance.)  I would most definitely stay at the Hotel Lleo again !

p.s there's a taxi rank right in front of the hotel which was convenient for getting to the ship

Thanks for the detailed description. What did you think of area? Was it convenient walking to other popular tourist attractions? Did you feel safe? We are 2 senior ladies touring around Barcelona before our cruise on the Radiance.
