  1. It looks like the new terminal will not be ready until 2025. Did the cruises this summer go out of the Skarfabakki Harbour location?
  2. CurlerRob, thanks so much. CDR2001, I felt a little shy asking for them since we weren't traveling this year. But you're right, I could ask for this year's as an example. Of course, doesn't look like I will need to with what CurlerRob was able to post.
  3. Just spent a bit of time looking through old posts regarding Iceland Excursions and their costs. I seem to remember someone listing costs from a year or two ago, maybe from Tatiana. Does anyone have a list they can share that shows the excursions with costs? It would be much appreciated.
  4. We actually did google first. One of the ones for Europcar is listed as being at the port but the location on the map is at the very bottom of the port and not what appears to be the main area where cruise ships might dock. The Europcar showing for the city actually appears closer to where the cruise ships dock. There is Akureyri rent a car that shows close to the port but wouldl be considered a city listing. A few of the reviews indicate they deliver to the port. Just looking to see what others may have actually experienced and found most convenient before I actually call the agencies in Iceland.
  5. We are looking to rent a car when docked in Akureyri. I see some of the car rental companies list as they cater to cruise ship passengers. Are the docks close to any particular rental car agencies or are there any companies that deliver the rentals to the docks? Would appreciatee any advice from others who have rented a car in that port to see the sights.
  6. Longterm, so glad to see you will be taking the Grand European River Cruise. I'm hoping you post about your time on that cruise as I found your posts from other cruises to be very informative. Happy cruising.
  7. Photopro2 when we were considering what excursions to take on Octanis (Canadian Discovery) all of the excursions listed as included. I remember remarking to my husband "How can they make a fishing trip as an included excursion? That is expensive." Well by the time we got to booking, the "errors" had been corrected and only one (or possibly two depending on the port) of the excursions were considered incuded. I don't think you can relie upon if the excursion is indeed included or is at a cost until the actual day of reserving.
  8. I think we are pretty much settled on doing just that. Good to know you found the driving easy. Thanks.
  9. Love the suggestions for the British Isles, Scandanavia and the islands of the Med. I was just going through all of the cruises Viking occurs and sorely wishing one of these was listed.
  10. Jneil, certainly something to factor in. Of course, weather can shut down travel on the island itself, but probably less so in the summer.
  11. Looking forward to it duquephart. Clay, I always enjoy your contributions. Will get to your live report as soon as possible.
  12. Whoa. This is truly not an easy decision. When I started thinking about the trip and looked over the places the ship docks (and the suggested excursions) I began thinking about a hybrid trip, a few days of driving along the South coast like Twitchly suggests and then the cruise. We came to cruising late and traveled extensively on our own prior to trying Viking about 6 years ago. We have taken cruises that would not be possible to cover solely by land (in a reasonable amount of time). We do love the onboard experience but I am probably leaning towards making this a road trip. Can't really spend more than 9 to 10 days on the Iceland part of the trip as the husband wants to spend time in London also. Thank you for the comments. It's clear no matter what way we go, Iceland will be a great experience. duquephart I would be interested in hearing about your small group tour. Good guides add so much to an experience and that is one thing we wouldn't have if we do the drive ourselves. .
  13. We are currently booked to do an Iceland cruise on Viking next summer. However, the more I learn about Iceland, the more I'm wondering if sailing around the island, instead of driving around it on the Ring Road, is a mistake. To anyone who has done this cruise or visited Iceland in the past, where you satisfied with the cruise? Or did you wish you had traveled by land?
  14. This extension is a great value for the money. We really enjoyed ourselves. The guides were knowledgeable, friendly and supportive. Do not hestiate to make any special requests as they will try their best to accommodate you if at all possible. Delphi may be quite a distance from Athens, but the ride is absolutely beautiful. This part of the trip is the absolute highlight. We happened to be there on their independence day. That was our free day in Athens and we were able to view their parade participants (lots of military hardware and people in uniform) and be whoaed by the flyover of military aircraft. The city was in a joyous, celebratory mood and it was such a delight to be walking around the old city. We ate lunch in a small family restaurant, had a delicous lunch of fried cod and mashed potatoes with garlic (traditional independence dish) and a small bottle of ouzo. It was all such a treat.
  15. Just received an email with schedule changes for Day 2 and Day 3. They will be spending more time in Venice but arrival time in Split will be later (with a later leaving time also). Generally very happy with this decision as they added more tours for Venice and one of the tours was what we were hoping for initially. Added bonus, no longer have to get up at the crack of dawn.
  16. We are having to take a private transport from Venice to Chioggia since we are coming in a day early. Where are taxis/cars allowed to drop passengers? Can they get to the cruise terminal or do they have to drop off passengers at a roundabout? If it's at the roundabout, don't know how we will negotiate any distance with our luggage.
  17. Hockeydoc2112, that is the best I have heard for private transfer and just a little bit above what Viking would charge you for two (probably in a bus).
  18. You could write to the ship (email on first page of final e-documents). So far has not worked for me but perhaps you will be more successful.
  19. jc522, I have some of the same questions as you and have written to the ship to inquire about transportation and how long does it take. Also will there be other options from which to choose, as the options for the day after we embark is pretty sparse. I wrote Friday and again today. So far, just crickets. If they respond with any information, I will post.
  20. Listed excursion hours are from when you leave the ship to when you return.
  21. Zalusky, Your choices make it look like we are on the "bargain" version. The choices you have are the ones I expected to have for Venice.
  22. Thank you for a shot of the boat you took Photopro. Still not quite sure about the the tour we have signed up for but we will keep the reservation and play it by ear.
