1. ]I don't believe Carnival has scrapped the Destiny yet, although it's long overdue! If you are going to defend a cruise line you probably should know the ships in it's fleet!

This statement just goes to show how spoiled we as a cruising nation have become. A ten year old ship needing to be scrapped? Maybe she needs to be spruced up but no way on the scrapping and yes I have cruised on this ship. Two of the best cruises that I have taken was on the Seabreeze in 94 and the Caribe in 92. Both ships were around 40 years of age at the time. Very good memories about both ships.

It seems that if a ship is over five years of age it is considered old. Ships today are being designed to stay in service 25-30 years before they are retired. The Destiny still has a ways to go.:)

  2. If you ever sailed Carnival you might begin to understand why it is the most popular cruise line in the world.

And that was a marketing ploy by Carnival to name itself the most popular cruise line in the world. One could also say that they are popular for many reasons!!!!!!!!;)

  3.
We just got back from an eight day cruise on the Radiance, like most of the rest of you we work hard all year and plan every detail to make everything just right. We enjoy a glass of wine while leaving port. We ordered six bottles from this company to be deliverd to our cabin and was told that it would arrive around five. Our friends also order wine and they received theirs as promised. We did not get our wine so I went to guest relations because I thought it had probably been delivered and taken to the wrong cabin. The lady in guest relations was very helpful and made every effort to try and locate our wine. It was finally determined that the package had not been delivered to the ship. We called the next day and talked with an employee of Just Because of You and she said that she knew that the package was delivered to the ship. When we reached San Juan I called again and this time I talked with Shelly the owner. Shelly aplologized and said that the package had not been delivered to the ship. I asked Shelly if she could have wine delivered fron their San Juan office as they advertised they had an office there. She said they did not have the kind of wine that I wanted. I asked if they could go to a local store and purchase KJ . Shelly said they could not do this and she refused to purchase wine from the ship and have it sent to our cabin because according to her that would cut into her profits. Shelly made no effort to try and make things right. I don't print this for any kind of revenge, just to help fellow cruisers in the future. I would think twice before ordering gifts from this company.
I'm aboard the Jewel at this time and Shelley and her team was great to deal with prior to my cruise and everything ordered arrived on time as promised. I would not hesitate to deal with Just Because of You again.
  4. So, Gordon, did they give you names with your price list, or did you order generically? "one bottle of vodka, one bottle of chardonnay.........."

I ordered my vodka and beer by name.

I ordered a bottle of Stolichnaya Vodka with two 1 liter bottles of tonic and two 64 oz. bottles of Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice for one basket and one basket of Bud Light and the total was $110.00 for everything. RCI charges $5.00 for each basket delivered. The vodka itself was $40.00 and the Beer basket was $40.00. Actually the beer is a pretty good deal as that is for a case. The other was a little more than what one would pay to smuggle but I am doing this more for convenience than anything.

  5. Gordon, are you sure that it was *Charlotte"? I just spoke with a *Charlene*, and I wonder if they are the same person, or two with similar names?

    :)

    (not that it matters :D)

She told me her name was Charlotte and that was what I wrote down when she was giving me prices. Not sure if they how many are working for Shelley. She was new as she had to call me back when she got the prices from Shelley. Of course my ears could have been playing tricks on me too.:) All I know is I have my liquor being delivered Saturday!!!!!!:D

  6. We've never bothered lugging bottles of anything onboard. We have to fly to port, so it's a real hassle, considering the small amount of savings you may have. Yes, we have a bar bill, but it's a vacation and we expect that! I'd rather pay for my drinks than risk having broken liquor on my clothes. Not to mention the extra weight! That's why we don't buy "cheap" liquor in the islands--who wants to carry it? Not me!!!!

Keep in mind that everyone that takes something on board is not trying to save money. I liked it when RCI allowed you to buy on board and pay the in room consumption fee and take it back to your cabin. It's nice to be able to enjoy a drink on the balcony once in a while and room service is out of the question as the drinks are usually watered down by the time that they arrive.

  7. Pete I seem to remember nothing was given for the change in itinerary. Yes the tempers ran high here on Cruise Critic. Many on that cruise felt that RCI should have ignored the warnings of the hurricane and go to Bermuda anyway. I also remember that most felt no sympathy for the cruisers as we all know what can happen when a storm is approaching. Just hope that no storms are brewing out there when you cruise.:)

  8. I cruised on the Caribe back in May of 92 for a week to the Western Caribbean. She was a nice little ship but we did hit a tropical wave after leaving Ocho Rios and for the next eight hours the ship did some serious rocking. Overall a great ship. I have seen her two or three times within the last few years. Below is a link to a photo of here that I snapped in Nassau as the Regal Empress.

  9. Her sister the former Starward is reported to be moving to Pt. Canaveral in November to start two night cruises to Grand Bahama. She will cater to the time share crowd much like the Regal Empress does in FLL.

The Starward was my first cruise back in 86 and it hooked me on cruising. I may just have to take this cruise to see how she looks twenty years later.

Here is the line that she is sailing for now. She looks good in the photos.
