  1. When are you looking to cruise? Hubby & I are in 12241 next week (1/5/13) so I will be sure to take many pics as I haven't had much luck finding any pics.

I just wanted to be sure that you saw these previously posted pics of your wonderful 12241 balcony shown from the outside :D:

Have a wonderful cruise, we'll be on the Epic the week after you!

If the deck plans are pretty accurate, it appears that our cabin has just about the largest balcony on board and we are very excited.

Speaking of large balconies, this photo of the Cat M9 Spa Mini Suite #14118 balcony always impresses me:

    14118balc.jpg

Described in another review as "The balcony of room 14118 is 3 times the size of the other cabins....the only one that size. It is at the end of the corridor and there is no traffic by the room other than staff".

    Another great balcony!

  2. I'm one who enjoys a balcony and would hate to be stuck with either of these ;) When people complained I made note of the cabin numbers so I could remember which to stay away from, and I'm glad that I've found this forum to add these.

MaryJean56 posted this picture of the small balcony on the Celebrity Constellation concierge cabin 8108 (how do you get around that table to use the chair lol):

Also avoid 5188 on Disney Fantasy and Dream if you want a nice balcony to stretch out on. CC says there is not even enough room for chairs so Disney put a small bench at the back so you could at least sit down (well, depending on your sizes, at least one of you anyway) :

  3. Ah Ha! The mystery is solved thanks to Coka! OP I'm sure you already saw this reply on the other thread, but I thought I'd post it here too in case someone didn't:

I can answer your question. The blank spot is a secret stairway! The public can use it but nobody knows about it. I was in cabin 8213 and I used it more than the others. Also know your balcony is a bit bigger than the others. Yours and cabin 8211 on the opposite side. Enjoy your cruise!

  4. Just a guess here :) I googled and found this picture of the balcony of 8210 and wonder if it's some sort of storage space beside your cabin for the apparatus shown through the plexiglass - maybe crew's window washing equipment?:

I don't know if it's always out (so you have to look at it throughout your cruise) or is usually put away. Hopefully someone who really knows can tell us both. :D

  5. Lol Seahunt...like minds! I didn't see your post until after my page refreshed with my post! I love Loungerz thread and constantly look forward to his updates!

    ~Michele:)

LOL Me too :D I'm also always looking at those great photos, and those aft balconies are telling me to "book meeee" :D

  6. I have seen youtube videos of 2 bedroom suites on Epic with a solaium but not the larger ones 16001 and 17001

When I sail, I will be creating one ;)

Yes I know, it seems I have looked at every single thing I could find on the Epic too so they all kind of run together, but I'm 99% sure this one had the picture of the door 16001, then they walked in and it showed the room. I don't think they even went out onto the balcony, just moved the curtain to show it. Plus I think it was an avi post, but this morning when I tried using "Epic avi" to search there was 40,500 results! So instead of trying to go through those I'm going to have to remember how I found to go to it in the first place (which review, etc).

BTW, as I said previously my PCC is out until October 1, so this morning when I called in to check on 16001 or 17001 I had to talk to someone else. Both rooms were unavailable on my sailing (boo hoo) and when I asked another question about the wrong cabin number shown on my invoice that I just noticed during the call - an invoice that my PCC just sent me on 9/19....well all I can say is this guy really shouldn't be in any position dealing with customer relations. Super rude and condescending and "click" that was me hanging up on him, and I don't do that. JMO but you really shouldn't make booked clients consider cancelling altogether LOL.

  7. Can you post the link to the youtube video

    I could not find anything

    THANKS

I will try and find it again - I knew I should have saved it! It's in a tour of cabins, and I can remember liking 16001 but being unsure of the enclosed balcony.

I had shown it to and asked my husband if he liked that solarium balcony better. He didn't think so, but now (after the great pics) I regret not taking it. :o

I already shot an email off to my PCC and received an automatic answer back that he is out of the office until October 1, so I will have to call the regular number tomorrow to check availability. If not available, oh well, we can always take another Epic cruise again, right LOL

I'll post the video info here as soon as I find it again :)

  8. And that's it. Hope this helps anyone trying to decide about 16001 on the Epic.

    :D

Thank you so much for posting! I've watched a youtube of that suite, but your pictures do it much more justice. :)

I'm presently booked in #16008 (with friends booked next door in #16010), but am thinking we might need to jump to forward now....

Though, hmmm, deck 16 or 17? I've read that the 17 deck is noisy due to the sundeck above, and I like that 16 is on the same level as the restaurant, etc. But if a gang of kids would be above us on 16 that would be bad too. We were in the Grand Suite (L302) on the Grand Princess for our 25th anniversary years ago, and the Youth and Teen center was directly above. It sounded like someone was bouncing a basketball over our heads every single evening until around midnight, so really don't want to go through that again LOL.

Decisions, decisions. But a nice decision to ponder. I don't have ESP but I feel a call to our PCC is in my future :D

  9. Is overlooking the lifeboat OK with you? Sounds like lusitanica wasn't impressed

Gee, I meant lusitanica wasn't impressed with that cabin(8047) looking over the lifeboats, didn't remember there was a bad ship review from them too. :o

OP we are sailing the Epic in January for the first time, and can't wait to experience her. I also love sdmike's reviews and links and have read and reread all the info many times. Talk about getting enthused - look through the Dailies and see all the choices there are on this ship :

My vote (not that I have one LOL) is that you continue with your anniversary reservation on the Epic :D

  10. If you haven't seen this yet, Lusitanica previously posted this pic of 8047 looking from the outside of the ship:

NCL gives contradictory info, but IMO 8047 is covered and located as shown.

Yes, it's complemented with a huge lifeboat.

Hope you both have a wonderful anniversary cruise :)

  11. There are some nice photos at this link of the France/Norway. Scroll down and there's even one of passengers dining in the private outdoor patio Ernie mentions above:

    http://cruiselinehistory.com/tag/ss-norway/

My husband reminded me on the Norway he got ice cream at least three times a day(!), and while I can picture where the ice cream parlor was located, I don't remember that. He's not that crazy about ice cream so that must have been some really tasty ice cream LOL.

I also remembered sitting on a small aft deck and a man and a woman with a small baby joined us, sitting on the opposite side. We smiled and said hello, and then went back to watching the waves. They were speaking another language that I didn't recognize (but later after listening to the captain's announcements thought it might have been Norwegian).

A couple minutes later the door opened, and a photographer and a reporter stepped out and asked the couple if they could speak to them. They agreed and a few more people came through the door. Then it was like a news conference began, with pictures of her with the baby, him with the baby, and the baby alone. The reporter was transcribing everything they were saying - but alas, it was in the other language, so we had no clue what was being said and just who these "famous" people were!

We left them alone and never did find out exactly who they were. I wondered if they were upset that we didn't recognize them. ;)

Gee I wish the Norway was still around, I'd sail on her again in a minute!

  12. Thanks for posting these! We sailed on her 2 times - and the first time was our very first cruise. Sure brings back a lot of good memories.

I remember on our first cruise we had an inside cabin on the Fjord deck, our waiter's name was Christie, and the "name" entertainer was Shields and Yarnell, whose music director was Paul Shaffer (now of the David Letterman show).

We even talked to Paul S. around the pool one day while he (and my husband, and every other guy on the sun deck that day) ogled the ship's dancers sunbathing in their tiny bikinis LOL.

Scariest of all was on the very first night the boiler went out before we got to Nassau and we were adrift for a couple hours. We sat on deck and watched the stacks pouring dark smoke as they tried to get it restarted. We finally went to bed and my husband bet me we would be at port the next morning. But I didn't feel any ship movement throughout the night, and was so sad because I was sure we would be flying home before we even got to really experience a cruise. Bright and early the next AM he ran out on deck and checked and came back in and said "We're in Nassau!" Yay!

My husband's favorite thing was watching them loading and unloading the two tenders (Little Norway I and Little Norway II) on the bow with the hydraulic lifts. (The Norway was so long and her draft was too deep to fit most ports). The crew had that procedure down pat.

A couple years and a couple cruises later we sailed on her again (Rita Coolidge was the entertainer), then disembarked and jumped on RCCL's Song of Norway. But there was nothing like the SS Norway, and I'm glad we were able to sail on her. :D

  13. I seen past pictures on this thread showing exactly where the rooms are on the boat, does anyone know for 11185, sorry this is my first cruise just looking for info! Thanks

Look back at post # 215 on this very thread :D

    11185 overlooks lifeboats.

Note that the balcony is seen with the partition opened.

Normally 11185 would look as the balcony one deck below (which is 10197).

  14. :D sdmike's fantastic informative post "Epic Uncovered and Extended Balcony Listing" shows this about 9288:

"There are a few uncovered rooms back here as well because deck 9 goes straight back while deck 10 indents a bit. 9267 and 9268 have half covered balconies, as do 9287 and 9288 which are the last rooms on each side".

In the link he also has kindly provided a drag deck feature to overlay decks (in your case, deck 10 over deck 9 and vice versa) to show you how the balcony above will affect your cabin:

    Thanks again to sdmike!

  15. Oh I am so sorry for your loss. Such a sad thing to have happen anytime, but I hadn't thought about being away from home and having to go through all those procedures in a strange location. I can imagine everyone was in a state of shock, and my heart hurts for you all having to experience this sad event.

One eerie thing is that I had posted here about a local news report saying that there was an unusually sad situation at Port Canaveral of 3 deaths coming in on cruise ships in 3 days - of course I never dreamed it would involve a CC'er, and that hits home how "connected" we really are here....

Please take care, and may many fond memories strengthen you and your family.
