Can you tell what the barge is?  Is it a bunker barge (fuel hose up to ship) and only there for a few hours, or has it been there all along?  If it's been there a while, it may be a diver support vessel, and that would lead to the bent propeller blade theory.  If it is a bunker barge, then it may be a failure of the electrical supply to the azipods that converts the AC power to DC, then back to AC to allow variable speed of the azipod motors.  Either one could have caused the "bang" reported as being heard at the time of the failure.

Chief, does this image help with any theories?

I have you beat I guess.  Our planned sailing is May 17…our first trip to Alaska. A little anxious maybe?  Hopeful that they will get whatever is wrong resolved.

I have both my checked and carry on  (since it is a 2-week cruise tour) bags ready to go with only the backpack/personal item left to finalize.  With all of the planning packing downsizing and repacking I’ve done, I would hate to start over from scratch. 😉

I think your sailing is safe. I pray, I’m getting off from my B2B sailing and can wave Bon voyage to you 🙂

Radiance has the smell of new Carpet and wood stain around the Ship. Was on Brilliance and Serenade right after major Dry Docks where they waited and did paint, staining, ect for weeks after Dry Dock. They did great job on Radiance. lot of open deck areas repainted multiple halls and Lounges with new Carpet. Part I hate is had to pack up today and Change Cabins tomorrow. On thing forget to mention on Roll Call thread is the poolside giant TV monitor was removed, they haven't replaced it yet. They have scaffolding under the mount so maybe getting new one up tomorrow. Also not sure if this is Ship wide change but has been no News Channels on in cabin TV's last 2 Radiance Cruises

    Mattress report?

  4. per cruise mapper, our old girl is back in the water! March 28th cruisers, we look forward to a report. Panama Canal goers, I am assuming you guys have not heard of any delays with the low water levels?

Getting close to finishing up in dry dock! Hopefully some reports/pictures emerge. Looking forward to going through the Panama Canal on a refreshed ship on the April 8th cruise.

    Report back to us please!

Agree, almost never overhaul a Ship. Replace Carpet, Chairs ect, Paint Ship, stain all Balcony Railings, this is done year round. Getting Ready for Serenade's World Cruise was done over period 3 months while she was in service and passengers onboard. They replaced all the room Cooler(fridge), ran all new wiring for upgraded Internet, added more plugs and USB Ports in Cabins, ect. Radiance now should be a usual Marine Side Maintenance Dry Dock and not much more... I'll be on her myself doing B3B Mar28-April23

We look forward to an update from ya once onboard! Could we ask the cruise gods for new mattresses as well? A girl can wish. I love the Radiance Class so much. Have a great B3B.

Spent month on Radiance in Sept/Oct inc Panama Canal last Fall, no issues. Besides the B3B with you this Fall also doing B3B March-April doing her West Bound Panama Canal. Some things on Older Ship are not going be replaced, rare as you know. Though if I see anything good will be sure to share!

Would love an update! We are sailing B2B on a Northbound/Southbound Alaska itinerary in early May

  8. We always rent from the airport…short ride, so much cheaper…I concur, all the above mentioned are top notch. Peak brewing and Alaskan brewery are good stops. There are great trail heads around the shrine and eagle beach as well. Have a great trip

same here, I cannot duplicate these results, but very happy to see Radiance will get some attention before the Alaskan season. Would still love any information from those February/March cruisers on details of the dry dock. Many thanks!

Yes we will be on her Feb 8th if all is well

Hence in post #50 I reported the 5 closed sailings for February

(These seem to be closed due to being full)

I will be sure to ask around and see if I can get some factual data

    Nancy

You're the best Nancy!! Many thanks! Wishing you smooth seas!

  11. Interestingly, if you look at her schedule, Radiance has a 4 night on March 2, 2024, and then a break until the March 28, 2024 sailing. I am hoping this will be a refresh of some sort before the Alaska sailing. Has anyone seen or heard from the crew onboard? It would be interesting if anyone sailing her in the near future could report back for us Alaskan folks. Thanks in advance!
