  1. So, today the advertised price on a JS on my cruise is 1979.14 (fees included), which is under $400 more than I paid for my balcony cabin. I called and asked for a paid upgrade. The price quote I received from "customer service" was over $4000.00 for a JS. She told me that was the best she could do for me and talking to a supervisor would not help.

Absolute craziness... and yes, total #WOW Royal!

    Not a happy Diamond member

  2. Watch the prices everyday when you get close to the date of your cruise, like the last 4-6 weeks. If the price drops and the rooms are available, you can call and pay a small difference, sometimes it's gratis! I called the other day and was able to upgrade from a balcony to a JS for a total of $1.99.

That also gives you double C&A points! Alrighty then!

This kills me, I did the same exact thing, I initiated the call, saw the better price on a JS versus my balcony... the customer service was clueless (as most that I seem to get on the phone) and said there was nothing he could do for me, nor would talk to anyone else about making me an offer to upgrade? U think considering a Diamond member makes the effort they would at least talk to a supervisor and make me an offer??

  3. afternoon cocktails on Royal's ships are always spectacular in the Viking for stunning views. We always prefer to get finger sandwiches upon arrival at the cafe or sorrento for Italian bites. Specialty dining is always worth the extra to us for a personalized meal (especially now that we can bring our favorite wines on board at no corking fee).

Late night we love the pub or vintages (sometimes a nightcap by ourselves on the deck is just what the doctor ordered).

Personally, the difference between the 2 lines is Royal is a little "louder" and more on the upsell, but not so much that it ruins a trip. Our one experience on Celebrity was simply decadent in the most enjoyable way, but half way through, we longing for the calyso/reggae touch instead of the "spa" tunes.

Love them both, would do either again depending on our mood and trip!

Hope this answers some questions for you

  4. Thanks for letting us know. :) I hope the ongoing issue of people's cruises being repriced when they log into My Cruises is being looked at. It happened to me too. :( I have printed off booking invoices showing 0.00 balance and my SetSail pass and luggage tags. Im too paranoid to even log in anymore.:D

OMG, so happy (well not happy, u get it though) to read this... I was on the phone with customer service for almost a freaking hour trying to explain this to the "supervisor" who was quite rude with me and didn't understand why I was so upset. And then was attempting to tell me why she wouldn't be able to apply my RCCL credit card coupon now... I actually had to tell her what was allowed via policy... it was a nightmare! With one click, my balance went from 640 to 1337!

  5. @Robtx100, I noticed you already booked your speciality reservations for June 2015. We are sailing in May 2015 on the Navigator and the reservations don't seem to be open. When I click on the RC link it states....there seems to be a problem, you are either booking too early or too late.

How did you get your reservations for June?

    Thank you for your help!

I have been in touch with reservations twice about specialty dining for May 10th sailing... still not open, told me they were shooting for 60 days out now... I've never had to wait so long to book dining

  6. Order I was given

    Mojo

    Saffron

    Pimiento

    Basil

    ****ake

    Jasmine

    Pomodoro

FYI, totally worth the upcharge for the specialty dining experience... go for it, do one on your first night cruising for a discount (weak night in the main dining room anyway)... Happy cruising

  7. Could you tell me how you took your water and soda on board? Did you put in your luggage or just drop it at pier or?

Easiest way to get on and avoid a trip to the naughty room is put in your checked bag, however, I have checked it in the pass and it always made it's way to my cabin. Spring break cruisers may have delayed delivery... however I would try, you are only risking a $4/case.

Honestly, however (I'm a huge water drinker), with the nice thermal cups these days, ice always available on deck and water. I fill up and ask the bartender for a squeeze of lime/lemon and I'm really happy to have with me at all times. Happy cruising

  8. I concur on ez cruise parking... take advantage of the $45 rate. Get dropped off at the pier, take care of porter while driver parks across the street and walks across.

Get there at 10:30-10:45 and you will not have a crowd and be one of the first walking on the ship.

Just note whatever you carry on will have to stay with you until 1pm when your cabin will be made available.

  9. Hey Guys,

I know there are lots of factors, but this is a very vague/general question. I am a seasoned traveler and cruiser, but a newbie to Barcelona... I'm trying to plan/budget a trip next year. Can anyone give me a round about number on flights from the New Orleans or Houston market to Barcelona airport

Many thanks for any guidance in this matter!

  10. OK, I know there are lots of factors here, but I'm just asking for a price range on roundtrip airfare to Barcelona from New Orleans or Houston area...

Well seasoned traveler and cruisers, just a newbie to Europe... in our planning stages.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

  11. So day before yesterday, I noticed my hubby's c&a # was not on my reservation, so I hit edit and correct... check this out, when I go back to my reservation homepage, my balance shoots up from 640.00 to 1377.00!!! I call RCCL and had a 40 minute "discussion" of what they were going to do for "me" since my booking promotion was no longer available??? This cruise was booked back in May '14.

Also, why in world with 80 days out on my cruise can I not book specialty dining? and while I'm ranting, where are new itineraries anyway...

Their website and app, leaves lots to be desired... glad I like their ships so much

  12. Thanks I am 3 days at New Orleans!

As a Louisiana native and total foodie (for obvious reasons, I'm a food scientist), may I humbly suggest a few places. Many places are total tourist traps in the French Quarter these days, but do not fear, great authentic food is just steps away or a fantastic street car ride.

Favorite Po-Boy joint: Mahony's (3454 Magazine street), and once there, walk that area of Magazine for some great shopping and local artist! This area of Magazine reminds me of what the French Quarter used to be...

Cochon Butcher (930 Tchoupitoulas st)... the best sandwich shop around in the warehouse district... period (this is near the Port, fyi)

Felipe's (S. Peters)... amazing Mexican cuisine and fantastic homemade margaritas

Of course have cafe au lait at Cafe Du monde is a staple...

For really good music, skip Bourbon street go to Frenchmen's Street for authentic NOLA music (or the locals like Oak Street, but it's a taxi ride to that location)

The one good thing Bourbon Street still has is Clover Grill for the best damn mushroom cheeseburger or breakfast 24/7 for late night munchies!

Welcome to Louisiana, we never meet strangers!
