Rocket Man you bring up a great point.  Has DeAntis said anywhere that he's willing to accept a ship full of sick covid people as a result of all the people commingling that get sick?

Sorry but this is a bigger issue of medical privacy. IMHO, you have no right to know whether I’m HIV-positive, whether I’ve had the flu shot, or whether I’ve had a COVID shot if I’m buying a good or receiving a service from you. You can take precautions. You may test me to see if I’m sick with it or make me wear a mask, etc., but you’re not entitled to exclude me from your PUBLIC ACCOMMODATION if I decline to be vaccinated.

Aside from the pleasant prospect of a vacation free of science ignorant people, I am not keen on having to wear a mask everywhere I go throughout the ship.  This is what will be required if they can't check the status of vaccinations.  This may improve their ability to sail out of Florida but I don't think it is going to improve the chances of Joe Public wanting their first few post-COVID outings being back on the floating petri-dish (public perception, not reality IMO).

Enough of the histrionics, please. Cruises always have been, and always will be, cootie catchers. That’s da fact, Jack. It’s reality.

Deceptive is suggesting young people can't get covid or spread it.

Coronavirus infections requiring hospitalization are not only possible in younger adults, but the rate of these cases is increasing

    https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/coronavirus/coronavirus-and-covid-19-younger-adults-are-at-risk-too

This is not a young person virus. To suggest otherwise is misleading. Children should NOT have to be stuck to be allowed on a cruise. Tested - yes.Again, this, for the vast majority of incidences, is an older person virus coupled with comorbidities.

Can you please tell me what federally protected social group is being discriminated against? You have to have that to have a suit.

    I’ll wait.......

You are forgetting that unvaccinated is not a protected class. Not under ADA. Not under civil rights laws. Discrimination does not have a place in this discussion.

Correct. Not a protected class federally. However, states can give its citizens greater rights. States could easily make medical status (including vax status) a protected class.

Thoroughly disgusted by Royal Caribbean's latest decision not to require vaccinations. Just curious how many people Royal can expect to cancel their cruises in the near future if the this dangerous policy stays in place.

If you’re vaxxed, why would you care? Did you care whether other paxs were vaxxed for flu, etc.?

We are all vax in my house.  We were going to do it anyway, I work in the Dental field and DH in a grocery store, so we were able to get ours months ago.  Our 16yo got hers just after her birthday, and no, she wasn't forced into it, she understands the necessity.  I honestly thought it would be mandatory to cruise...their ships, their rules.

If you are vaxxed, you should live your life freely and not be concerned about others who decline the jab. Just like a flu shot.

Its possible because the vaccination is still not FDA approved but the court has to rule based on the constitution which has no such rules.  Once these vaccinations are approved by FDA which will happen probably by September then all these restriction laws will be without merit as we have requirements for other FDA approved vaccines in the past has been mandatory to enter schools etc.

For the cruise ships its not about the vaccine requirement.  Its about the money penalty under the Florida law would impact the ships business which it cannot do because of the constitution and separation of powers.  That power solely resides with Congress which is what our founders wanted since a cruise is considered international commerce.

Vaccine rules for schools are under the jurisdiction of STATE govts not Feds. Most cruises dont engage in interstate commerce as they travel to foreign countries. Moreover, state and ,ica, gifts have jurisdiction when the ship is docked in a state-owned port.

Just like a passenger on a plane has no right to cause a commotion that will result in the plane interrupting its flight and being forced to land at an alternative airport, an unvaxxed person has no right to create a disruption on a cruise ship that can cause it to interrupt its itinerary.

Have them take a test before boarding. I don’t agree with forced vaccination in order to cruise, buy groceries, etc. moreover, no one is creating a disruption by the mere fact they declined to be vaxxed.

I know this is like beating a dead horse, but have to do it.

If you are under 12- you get a Covid test prior to boarding

if you are over 12- get vaxed

if you are over 12 and can't for medical/ other reasons-  get a Covid test prior to boarding

if you are vaxed-  doctor's note to upload to your cruise documents and or your card.

if people want the ships to sail and not get shut down again- there is a solution.

Sorry but no child (who has a negligible chance of getting COVID) should be forced to get vaxxed to cruise. They should merely take a COVID test prior to boarding.

totally my opinion. I know many who can't due to medical reasons . I have asked those their opinions on cruises. they totally understand that if they wanted to cruise they may need a Covid test.  one said she would not want her trip disrupted if it could be avoided.  and this was from someone who can't get the vaccine- yet.

we all want to cruise safely and healthy.

my daughter is going to sleep away camp . yes she is vaccinated but must take a test before arriving and halfway through camp . she is ok with it.  her camp is a mini city- just like our ships.  our home/ city for a week.  we want it safe.

Waiting to get my daughter vaccinated until this heart enlargement issue has been investigated and resolved.

We'll see what happens, but I kinda expected this to come up.  Rather I do or do not agree with the governor, I do think there has to be some sort of negotiations.

This is an old story (April I believe) revived with a new headline, etc. This was when DeSantis only had his EO in place. Now it’s law and legislature must amend if they choose.

Your social security number is protected by privacy laws as well.  How many times have you voluntarily given it out to non-government sources?  Remember your doctors, hospitals, dentists, lenders, bank and equity accounts, etc.  So there is nothing stopping someone from freely sharing their position or their vaccination status.

Many states have specific medical record privacy laws (state level and different from HIPAA). I don’t know any that have SS privacy laws.

We are also going to Florida!!  A week in Anna Maria Island, and then 5 days at Universal Orlando.  And all mask mandates dropped!!!  Don't know who are more excited, the adults or the kids!!  Cruising can certainly wait-  we love to cruise, but after 4 canceled Alaskan cruises, 2022 is our next try.  From Arizona where we are mostly maskless.  Would never travel anywhere now where they mask us up....

    It’s great here in Florida!

We believe the report because we have read about it in highly reliable news sources. If that’s not enough, here’s a story that ran on a Fox News station https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/cdc-study-unvaccinated-worker-started-covid-19-outbreak-in-nursing-home-among-mostly-vaccinated-residents

Variants can take you down whether or not you’ve been vaccinated. Johnson & Johnson is the only vaccine that tested the newer variants.

Celebrity Cruises announced Wednesday that it got the green light from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to embark on the first U.S. cruise with paying customers in more than a year. The Celebrity Edge will set sail from Fort Lauderdale on June 26 — maybe.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said Thursday that Celebrity's requirement that 95 percent of all passengers over 16 be fully vaccinated "violates the spirit" of an executive order he issued barring "vaccine passports," as well as a state law that goes into effect July 1. If the cruise line, a subsidiary of Royal Caribbean Group, follows through, it will be "subject to a fine of $5,000" for each customer asked to show vaccination status, the governor's office said.

The CDC's authority trumps DeSantis when it comes to health requirements on cruise ships, but a cruise line would probably have to take the governor to court to make that clear, Jim Walker, a maritime and cruise ship attorney from Miami, told USA Today.

Unless a court invalidates FL law, it stands and Celebrity must abide by it otherwise it’s fine for the one sailing could be as high as 10-15 million dollars.

Plus the fact that among the unvaccinated who have not already had covid, the rate of infection is as high as it was during the height of the pandemic.  So if you get a bunch of unvaccinated not-previously-ill people together in a closed environment like a ship, good chance of an outbreak.

You make a statement about high infection rates. Please provide statistics to back up your claim.

Carnival has said they are not requiring vaccinations. That was in the past. Now if you want to cruise to Alaska, you need proof of vaccination. Does anyone else see a camel's nose under the tent? I predict the whole camel will be asking for proof of vaccinations company wide.

They’re only doin it because the statute requires it.

I am not sure an unvaccinated person would even want to attend an event where they were charged nearly $1,000 more than someone who was vaccinated.  What's the next move?  Putting scales at the entrance of buffets and charging someone more for every pound they are overweight?  Charging smokers to enter casinos?  Charging alcoholics more to enter a bar?

A person who has had covid could have the same immunities, or even more, than a person who is vaccinated.  How is that fair to treat the person with covid immunities differently?  The entire thing is ridiculous, but there are those who are fine with it.

What if businesses charge more for people who are HIV positive? This whole thing is getting ridiculous. How about weighing people to get on planes and charging the chubbies more because they use more fuel, etc? Craziness.

Here is what one Florida rock concert promoter is doing. You do not need to show proof of vaccinations to buy a ticket, however the price is much, much lower if you do show your proof.

Florida concert promoter charging non-vaccinated people $999 for tickets to a show, $18 for those with shots (msn.com)

Um, no one, I mean no one has purchased the higher price tix. Colossal fail.
