  1. I don't know how long the original call was but the 2nd call lasted an 1 hour and 57 minutes, mostly on hold as the 3rd rep talked to the 1st rep.  I had hoped get to the old promotion at the original price of $756 but they couldn't do that.  However, they were able to get me the new package (+2 desserts day & 2 fitness classes) at $840 which was $80 less than I could have gotten it online & didn't charge $33 that the package would have increased the insurance.  I didn't need the 2+ hours of stress this all caused but I'm going to forget about it & not let it affect our cruise.  As long as I don't get another call from Princess that is 🙂 .  Happy cruising everyone!

I would really appreciate any ideas on how to get this fixed.   We're really stressed because we sail on Saturday and tonight we got a call that we owed over $500  on top of what we already paid for our Princess Plus package.

    The details:

On Dec 8 I purchased the Princess Plus package for $756.

Later they had a promotion that included 2 premium deserts a day and a total of 2 fitness classes during the cruise for the same price.   I called to see if I could cancel the original purchase and get the current promotion and the Princess rep said she could just bump me up to the better package.

Fast forward to tonight and I get a call saying I owed (I so shook up I can't remember the exact amount) over $500 more because they entered an incorrect code when they bumped me up to the slightly better promotion.  Does it seem right that they would want $500 more for 2 deserts a day and 2 fitness classes over the length of the cruise?     The other weird thing, is I can buy the package from them online right now for only $150 than I payed originally for the package.

I asked to talk to a supervisor and she said there was no one above her.   So anyway, she cancelled the package completely and said we'd get refunded what we originally paid.   Now if I want the package I have to pay a little over $900 to get it.  Which is $150 more than we originally paid but still $350 less than they were asking for tonight.   This is our 7th cruise with Princess and never had a problem before.  Anyone had anything like this happen to them on ANY cruise line?

  4. We had a Balcony room and put in close to minimum bids for a Deluxe Balcony, Mini Suite, and Suite.  A couple of weeks ago it showed the Mini Suite as "Pending" and the other two bids as "Expired" but no change on Princess.com or in the app.  After about a week we got an email that the Mini Suite bid was accepted and it was reflected in the app and Princess.com.   I checked to see if we could put an additional bid to upgrade to a Suite and it says we're not eligible.  It's not as exciting as getting a free upgrade but it's pretty close!

  5. For an explanation of the CDC Ships color code, I found the CDC ‘threshold” for COVID cases is based on percentage of passengers with COVID.    Ship is green if there are 0 cases.     A ship goes to yellow If cases of COVID are less than 0.10% of passengers (for 2000 passengers that would be less than 2 passengers so effectively 1 case).   If the number of COVID cases equals  or is greater than .10% the ship goes to Orange.   A ship goes to red if the ships medical staff is overwhelmed with cases.

I believe we were all ocean, the True Inside Passage is for ships returning to Vancouver. Maybe someone else can give you exacts but the sailings from Seattle are never really Inside Passage.

Thank you so much for your live comments!  We're on the NA on the 14th and it really helps with planning, not to mention adding to our excitement for the upcoming trip!  I'm looking for your FB page!

Sitka is excellent for varied wildlife.   I don't consider it a place for "whale watching",  since, I've been out a few times, when no whales were seen.  🙂   But,  good chance whales will be seen.    My priority for this area-  actually is access to St.  Lazaria.   I ALWAYS charter,  since I am extremely picky.   I've gone myself,  and also have gotten Cruise Critic Roll participants,   boat is a 6 pack.

I don't give any interest in Fortress of the Bears-  since I only want "in the wild".   But, it does get good reviews.   The Raptor Center is an excellent organization-  certainly worth a visit.

My opinion-   with a  wildlife priority (which I certainly have as well),   I take advantage of EVERY opportunity.  There are NO guarantees.  Every trip is unique.   Whale watching-  is VERY unpredictable, and a lot more waiting than watching.   🙂   (I'm heading out of Ma.  for at least 4 runs in about 10 days,   I'll also be in Alaska next month-  IF conditions allow,  and I'll be taking probably 4 trips out to Kenai Fjords, 3 runs to Eielson at Denali-  all for wildlife)

I would be going out in Juneau,  Sitka,  and Hoonah.   Never would I consider picking one.  🙂

@Budget Queen, We've been following your advise since our 1st Alaska trip in 2007.  It's made all the difference in our getting to see the real Alaska.  Next month will be our 9th visit.  What do you like about St.  Lazaria.  It sounds very interesting but I haven't found much info, yet.  Is there a tour you'd recommend to get there?

  8. How long does it take for him to respond. I sent the email thru his website but have not heard back.

He responded to my emails within 2 days of each one. Thanks to this thread we've been able to book him for our upcoming tripping and we're really excited about it not only because of the reviews but also because of his description of the tour.

  9. Very nice review. I especially like the pictures. We'll be on the Adventure in a few weeks and especially happy to be back on Royal Caribbean. This is a very specific question, but my wife doesn't like to dance and I've gotten into doing the classes onboard just to learn a few steps. Any chance you know if they were teaching any line dances?

Looking forward to the rest of the review!

    Thanks!

  10. Just noticed you are from Pawleys Island. We lived there 8 years and still visit several times a year. We lived in Heritage. Have fun on your cruise. We love the Ruby.

Cool, we have several hammocks from Pawleys Island. My mom lives in Surfside and we visit the shops around the Original Hammock store at least once a year.

Anyway, we going on the Ruby for the 1st time in 26 days. Love the info!

  11. I see that the itinerary has changed for the 1/18/14 Ruby sailing from what it shows when searching the cruise. It still shows that Cozumel is Tuesday, 1/21/14 however in the personalizer it shows that Cozumel is Monday, 1/20.

When I go to the port schedule for the Puerta Maya dock it doesn't show the Ruby Princess docking there either day.

Cruise port insider for the cozumel schedule shows the Ruby docking at Punta Langosta Pier on Tuesday, 1/21/14.

The official port schedule for Grand Cayman has us there on Tuesday, 1/21/14.

Makes it a bit hard to plan anything other than Princess' excursions.

The same thing is happening to me. I trying to plan some specialized scuba diving and it's complicating things. The Princess rep said it's in the contract to change dates and ports.....

  12. if scouting for a future dedicated dive trip

I'd recommend you shore dive from Sunset House in order to check out the facility and staff. It has been my primary dive vacation destination for 30 years.

Thanks! I definitely plan on coming back on an extend trip.

Their web site looks great. Since I'm the only diver in the group, should I worry about finding a buddy, though?
