  1. While the "If you don't have the beer I like, then you don't have good beer" crowd is always entertaining...

NCL, like other businesses, listens to their bottom line. It is more important to consider what people DO rather than what they SAY.

When it came time to place Moderno on all of the ships, NCL had to figure out which specialty restaurant would be removed to provide the needed space. Obviously, the least profitable of the bunch took the hit.

It didn't matter what people SAID they like or dislike, what mattered what where they actually ate....the restaurant with the worst numbers was shown the door.

If you really feel that the current beer is "swill" and "crap" you simply have to STOP drinking it. Period. Not once, not ever. You have to show NCL the economic strength of people who think thier beer is better. If they keep hitting the profit targets with the current selection, things will never change.

  2. Sorry, do not mean to hijack post, but we booked cabin 13236 on the Breakaway the other day. Would you know if the inside cabins across the hall can come directly to this cabin or do they have to walk all the way around (cabin 13631)? Would it be better if we book our inside cabin down by the elevators (like cabin 13641) for closer access to us?

We are looking at the deck plan and it appears as if the hall is blocked. Didn't notice this until after we picked those cabins. Need your help, please :)

Any information you can share with us would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you very much,

    Tina

    :)

As you have guessed, all inside cabins on Breakaway open to the interior corridor, their doors are NOT across the hall from the Balcony rooms.

Cabin 13631 is going to be a long walk around...I would recommend changing to one of the insides near the elevators...it isn't that much of a walk.

PS....you will also have great seats on your balcony to catch the fireworks!

  3. Would it really be then end of the world if the selection was different on each ship, influenced by the itinerary and seasonal to include variety?

I for one would enjoy having a choice of beers bought by NCL to suit what can be sourced locally, even in small quantities. Be happy to have a beer list that was a surprise when we were onboard.

They know how much beer sells.

With thousands of passengers someone will try something new and maybe like it.

They do it on Celebrity, so why not

Instead of asking "Why not", how about making a case for "Why"? Do the math, map out the projections, show the sales, and prove to them that IPAs offer them increased profitability over the current business model. Show them how much more money they can make for their stockholders if they follow what you feel is a better model. IOW, make them an offer they can't refuse.

  4. Awesome!!! I am counting down the days now!! We were originally booked on the Getaway Feb 2nd Inaugural that was so infamously canceled for the Super Bowl charter. I was SO disappointed but after I had time to "get over it" and move on I was able to rebook the same stateroom category but better balcony and lower price than the inaugural was which makes me very happy!!! Funny how things usually work out for the best!!!

No pun intended, but I was in the same boat (literally) that you were. I rescheduled for Feb 8th, which will now be the inaugural. Are you sailing on the 8th as well?

  5. Thank you for posting!! We have also booked an angled balcony (13836) on the Getaway in Feb '14. Based on my research of Breakaway I felt confident these were larger than the standard balcony which has gotten much conversation for limited size. Any additional sq footage in balcony without additional $ is a good value.

I also read that angled balconies with the forward view can be windy which certainly makes sense when the ship is in motion. So I was also pleased that ours is a aft facing angle which should prevent unwanted wind.

We've booked Breakaway 13836 facing aft. Had 13778 facing forward until the aft-facing cabin became available. The wind issue was our concern, too. We had an angled balcony on the Epic facing aft, and absolutely loved it. it was larger than Breakaway angled balconies though. Just realized we are flying to New York in 13 days. Better get busy!!!:D

I was in 13236 on Breakaway, which is the same cabin but on the Port side. The balcony was great...appreciated the extra size and the wind block. Had a great view the entire cruise.

  6. Mass market beer is CRAP beer

Yes, but that is according to YOUR tastes. I'll bet the people who brew, and the people who buy the beer you consider CRAP would disagree. It might also surprise you that some people really don't like the same beers that you like.

Regardless, as a Mass Market Line, NCL must stock what the Mass Market demands. There is limited storage space onboard which must be allocated to what sells....to ALL of the cruisers onboard, not just a small few.

If the demand really existed, NCL would stock IPAs out the wazoo

  7. Who would have thought that a $1200 cruise priced at:

    (Old Way) 1st Guest($500) + 2nd Guest($500) + 3rd Guest($200)

    as opposed to

    (New Way) 1st Guest($400) + 2nd Guest($400) + 3rd Guest($400)

    would cause such a problem!

It must be something new in the Math.

  8. I do know one thing that the Sky got in Dry Dock (well, actually coming out of Dry Dock) that is probably going to get glossed over...

They received a score of 100 on their USPH Inspection! That is a great score on its own, but even more impressive coming out of a Dry Dock environment.

    Kudos to the Sky's crew!

  9. Believe what you please, but do you have a link that states NCL's Lattitude Insider Offer OBC and the Lattitude Insider Offer extra points per night can not be split per policy?

The only think I did below was delete my last name, the responder's name, and eliminate some unnecessary spaces that NCL puts in their automated e-mails.

The Supervisory intervention was simply the rep not having done it before, she was the one who told me I couldn't get the OBC, but would still get the points.

    My e-mail to NCL:

    From: Jayne J

    Sent: Wednesday, June 27, 2012 10:04 AM

    To: Latitudes Clerical

    Subject: Re: Guest Inquiry

I was told at booking that the May 2012 Latitudes Insider offer OBC was not combinable with AARP, so that's why my account doesn't show the $50 OBC, but the bonus points still applied. This was confirmed by the NCL rep before I booked. She put me on hold and spoke to someone in the Latitudes department before I booked this cruise with her. I am just trying to get this in writing so in February, 2013, which is months away, I don't have any problems.

    Please confirm this. Thank you,

    -Mrs. J

    NCL's reply:

Yes you will receive the points at the end of your cruise.

Thanks for typing up what looks like a formatted email. However, as before, I'm still going to be skeptical without positive verification that what you claim is normal procedure. Assuming of course, that my reservations meet with your approval.

If you'd like to know why I tend to be skeptical of claims that people make on websites you don't have to go much further than this very thread. Go back and read posts #2 and #4. There are two people, each very confident in their answer, who are giving 100% opposite answers. Obviously, they both can't be right. I have no reason to disbelieve either one on them...or you for that matter...but without verifcation, I have to remain cautious of what I accept as fact. Trust me, "But so-and-so on Cruise Critic said.." will never get you anywhere.

As for NCL policy, the Terms and Conditions for each offer are well publicized. You can easily see for yourself what can and what can not be combined with each particular offer. You are free to verify this for yourself...or you can remain skeptical.

  10. It was split for us on our February Sun cruise. I could not have the Lattitude Insider Offer OBC because it was not able to combine with the AARP discount, but we did get the Lattitude Insider Offer extra point per night at the end of the cruise.

I will say that I don't think all NCL reps know how to do this, but ours figured it out with a call to a supervisor while I was on hold during the booking. I then sent an e-mail to the Lattitude's department to verify the extra point per night prior to our sailing and they did so in writing. The correct points showed up about four days after our sailing. I do remember the rep saying that the Lattitude Insider Offer code must appear in your booking promos with any other discount codes to get the extra points. I think they then manually back off the OBC somehow.

You understand that without validation any alleged exception to policy is simply heresay. Knowing the policies in place, without verification, I have no choice but to remain skeptical of this claim. What is "allowed" doesn't typically require supervisory intervention and manual adjustments.

  11. I can't speak to the combinability of the OBC for those two offers, but I do know from experience that you still want to make sure that the Lattitudes Insider offer code is on your ressie with any other eligible offer codes, because you still will get the extra Lattitude point per night even when they don't let you have the OBC part of the Insider offer.

Doesn't applin this case. If you get the Latitudes Insider Offer, you get the OBC and the extra point. They can't split up the promotion and just give you one or the other.

  12. Your right about the Latitudes OBC, I may have the two confused!:o

I did spend about an hour on the phone yesterday (Saturday) with NCL and when I was ready to commit they said $1500 deposit for a Penthouse! I stopped the booking and I'll call back today and see what I get. I'll post again.

Here is the page from NCL's website that covers required deposit amounts. It might be handy to have it when you make that call.

    http://www.ncl.com/about/additional-terms-and-conditions#payment

  13. Twice this year NCL has refused to combine Latitudes OBC with suite OBC. In the past suites that were not Haven required only the regular deposit. Now NCL tells me all suites must pay $1500 deposit.

That may be true, but the OP was asking about the Latitudes Insider Offer that comes with an OBC (Promo Code:LATITUDE) and not the Latitudes OBC (Promo Code:LATOBC)...each of these has their own terms and conditions as well as restrictions on combinability with other offers.

  14. You CAN use the certificate for your deposit, however be prepared to pay extra if you are booking a haven level suite.

You can NOT combine the two OBC offers, therefore it is very important that you use the promo code SUITEOBC when completing the booking, so that you receive the $300. ;)

the latitude offer for obc IS combinable with suite obc promo, and u can also use your future cruise reward, as long as the sailing is over 6 days...

Just how is it that two people can be so positive that their answer is correct and the opposite of somebody else's answer?

How is the OP supposed to make an informed decision when they are given two completely opposite answers?

  15. Hi there!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

If being close to the Buffet is important, than deck 10 is better. If having a window in the room is important, than deck 5 is better.

IOW the answer to your question really depends on what YOU consider to be "better". Just because I like or dislike it, doesn't automatically mean that you will feel the same way.

Which cabin do YOU feel is better for YOUR needs?

  16. I read a review and the poster said their was an additional cost for the ice cream. Does anyone know if this is true and how much it is?

I don't know if that is true, but I'll take your word for it that you read it. As for your second question, why don't we ask the reviewer with the personal experience? I can't imagine ANYBODY being better equipped to answer the question!

  17. For those who have read this far and don't know whats going on...

Norwegian Cruise Line announced today that a brand new Ice Cream Bar concept debuted on board the line’s newest ship, Norwegian Breakaway and will also be available on Norwegian Getaway upon her arrival to Miami in February 2014.

Guests sailing on board Norwegian Breakaway’s seven-day Bermuda or Bahamas and Florida cruises from New York City or on Norwegian Getaway’s seven-day Eastern Caribbean sailings from Miami, can indulge in a variety of specialty sundaes, floats, shakes and other ice cream treats during their cruise.

Located inside O’Sheehan’s, the ships’ 24-hour neighborhood bars, Norwegian Breakaway and Getaway’s Ice Cream Bars serve up the most delectable classic ice cream parlor creations, from floats, milkshakes and malted shakes, to egg creams and a variety of spectacular ice cream sundaes.

The signature item on the Ice Cream Bar menu is the enormously delicious Breakaway or Getaway Sundae. This massive ice cream creation serves from three to four guests, includes a whopping nine scoops of ice cream in up to three different flavors and is topped with “everything but the kitchen sink,” from chocolate fudge, butterscotch and raspberry sauces to chocolate shavings, sprinkles, crumbled Oreos, sliced almonds, marshmallows, gummy bears, whipped cream and cherries.

“We’ve recreated a classic ice cream parlor on Norwegian Breakaway adding yet another exciting innovation to our newest ship,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s chief executive officer. “The launch of the Ice Cream Bar on board has been extremely well received and we look forward to debuting it on Norwegian Getaway in February 2014. Our guests are delighted by the variety of ice cream creations – especially the runaway fan favorite, the Breakaway Sundae.”

The over-the-top menu also features an assortment of mouth-watering ice cream sundae creations, including classic Hot Fudge Sundaes, Hot Caramel Sundaes and Banana Splits. The menu also features other sundae favorites such as classic Peach Melba, with peaches, vanilla ice cream, raspberry sauce and whipped cream; and Pear William, made with pears, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
  18. I am in 14752 on our Getaway cruise with you.

Looks to me like if I am standing at the railing looking ahead I won't see the people as much as I will towards the aft.

Not sure what people you might be trying to view...

You should know that 14752 is a standard side-facing balcony. It would be 14750 that has the larger angled balcony that allows for the forward view.

You should also be aware that Deck 15 overhangs Deck 14 which will impede your view above.

  19. I did. I was in 13236 on the Breakaway. This one "faces" the stern, not the bow though.

It is had to tell which cabin you are considering based on your image. It is the cabin on the angle that has the best opportunity for a view and it looks like your red arrow might be pointed to the next cabin in line which would only have the standard side view.

I'm happy to answer any questions that I can.
