The title of this thread is Photo and Camera Discussions. I enjoy the variety of photos. I have learned a lot from this thread, more than from any other source. Thank you Dave, for so many things. Thank you, Justin, for leading me to Green Cay, a wonderful stop on the way to the port. Thanks to a few others whose positive contributions have been very helpful and ideas that can be used in a variety of situations.

My rule is to never travel with anything that would cause me to be upset if I did not bring it home. I take NO jewelry except a very cheap watch. I don't feel the need to show off.
-
Here's the issue. ...where the local eat, good authentic food at a cheap/moderate price, these are not going to be in the Quarter and might require a drive.
This is the list that would interest me. Driving is not a problem.
Not interested in wine. Not interested in the myth that ridiculous prices (anything over $50pp) equal fine dining.

I know exactly what you are saying. I am not gifted to say the least. But I love art of any kind and love galleries also. If only I could translate what I see onto a photograph!!
My way around it is to take many pictures and hope one of them is the one I have in mind.
My 6 year old granddaughter has an incredible eye and ideas to take photographs with an ipad!
So, yes absolutely right, it's the person who takes the pictures.
Good for you! You are more important than the price or brand of camera. Your eye for composition is there!

Help please, we are going to a South American cruise soon and are staying a few days in Patagonia beforehand.
I would love to capture the landscape of this magnificent country but need advice on which camera to buy which is easy to use and, for beginners like me, would produce nice pictures.
I researched the net but the choice is just too overwhelming.
Thank you for any tips. :)
Remember that good photographs are not made by the camera, but by the person holding that camera.

One of the things I look forward to in cruising RCCI is the savoury bites they serve at dinner. These are the small triangular seeded rolls. I love them, sad I know. Does any one have the recipe please? I would like to make them for a dinner I am having.
Many thanks
They are the best part of dinner. Love them.

Google Maps on my PC ...
I found a great view of the whale lot and surrounding area.

If you are going to the Julia Street terminal (all non-Carnival ships), you would drop off passengers and luggage at the terminal, park in the Whale Lot, and walk back to the terminal. No need to go through the Riverwalk.
We are Royal Caribbean, Julia Street Terminal, Whale Lot parking, no drop off, carry-on only.
Going to avoid the congestion by going down convention center blvd directly to the whale lot.
Just trying to figure out which way to walk to the Julia Street Terminal from the Whale Lot.
I know, we'll find out when we get there. The obsessive planner would like to know in advance!!!
Thanks

Ok, thanks!
Looking at the Wale Lot on Google Maps, they seem to have two elevated walkways from the lot to the terminal.
Is this correct? One along side Julia street?? and one in the center-back of the lot?

My favorite travel shoes are New Balance WWW812BK in black.
My white NB shoes never travel.
Sandals never travel, sand, pebbles, dirt, all sorts of unwelcome things find their way into mine!

Recently, I attempted to pay the balance on line. Couldn't figure out how...
Called (and I'm so glad I did) and the rep said she was going to check the price first. The price had gone down by a whopping amount. I will always call from now on!!

We will be cruising out of Galveston but we will be traveling and pulling our 5th wheel. Where would be the best place to park that could handle the extra long vehicle space?
While cruising from any port we always leave the fifth wheel in storage in a nearby campground.
It's much cheaper to just take the truck to the port, easier to navigate the traffic congestion around the port.
Hint. When going to Galveston we always avoid Houston and get on the island at the far west end. It's easier than it looks on the map. Just pay close attention to the signs, the map, and your Garmen.

I need to pick up some caffeine free soda for our cruise and was wondering if there are any stores within walking distance. Also any place to purchase a couple bottles of wine?
thanks for any help.
What city are you asking about?

If you just pop in and out of the balcony, you probably will not see much.
We spend a lot of time sitting on the balcony and see quite a lot (for the Caribbean).
Once saw a bird riding on the back of a sea turtle!
Love the flying fish.

What do I put in my carry-on?
Absolutely every thing I take!
DH and I like to pack light.
Then we toss it into the car and drive the 1500 miles
to whatever port we are using!!
We hate to drag big bags.

Whatever I read, it will be a "real" book.
So don't want to deal with things that need to be charged on cruises.

My Nook Simple Touch holds a charge so long
that I never take it's charger on any vacation.
I use it whenever DH is using my iPad Air.
The iPad has Nook books, Kindle books, and
the Overdrive app loaded with 20 books from our library.

Pre-Olympics (last time I was there) there was a food court on the bottom
floor under the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel. McDonald's, Subway, etc.
Is it still there???

Well, I'd love to do it as an excursion if the "tour guide" would let us wander off once we got to the ruins. I really, really don't want to time standing in one place listening to the the guy : )
Do you think it'd be incredibly rude if I took off on my own once we got there and didn't stay and listen?
I have never stayed with a tour guide. I go off on my own every time.

Royal Caribbean.
We will be driving to the port, shopping for parking and hotels.
Please share your experiences.

My DH and I are into photography and would love to find some beautiful spots easy to get to to take photos. Any recommendations?
We have not taken a tour in years (too much time in traffic jams ).
We just take a taxi in to Charlotte Amaliee, that gives us tons of photo ops in
all those little alleys between the shops, and more time to compose them.

Landlubbers usually call it stomach flu.
It is actually very common.
You hear about it with cruise ships because they report it.
Hotels, etc, do not report it.

"Copy and paste" your favorite secrets to your word processor.
Save as a PDF file and save to the iPad for a handy
reference while on board.
Or print them!
White Pass- Is the train a must?
in Alaska

I have gone by bus, by train, and on our own in a rented van. I did not like the train. I liked going on our own.
