  1. I originally booked zero proof packages because my traveling partner is in recovery and I thought I could not book separately. (They are fine with me drinking.) Then I swore I saw here that some people were able to book separately in this case. But I just called and was told the only exceptions were pregnancy and minors. I just thought I’d check here to see if that was accurate since I really thought some people here said they had made an exception. Honestly, I probably would not drink close to making the package worth it so it’s their loss! But I considered getting it just to not have to think about it.
  2. I had originally bid on an Aqua cabin through moveup from a regular infinite balcony on my upcoming Ascent cruise, but then I looked and it did seem like a few of the Aqua cabins had partial views. I am on deck seven with no blocking of my view. Blu might be nice, as would the thermal suite. But there is no way to know. Right? Has anyone done this and ended up with a blocked view in Aqua? Honestly, the ship is sold out, so I am not expecting anything. But I am a little torn.
  3. It just went through. So not long. I thought it might be a few days. I didn't realize there were gratuities on it, though. One of the reasons I wanted to book was that my friend doesn't drink so we both have the zero proof package. I don't drink a lot, but a bottle of alcohol would be nice for the week. I was going to do the stateroom package, but then I felt like maybe the cabana would just be a better deal. Now I'm not so sure. Oh well! I like planning!
  4. Hmmm. I decided to cancel an excursion for a day and book a cabana instead. I was able to cancel the excursion, but the website won't "catch up" so now I cannot book the cabana since it says I'm double booked. I'm on hold with Celebrity. My sailing is sold out, so I'm worried it will get booked up while the refund processes. Has anyone had this happen? If so, how long did it take to no longer appear as double booked? What's weird is that there should be no reason why I can't have an excursion and cabana on the same day if I want.
  5. I can’t believe anyone is defending this. This is embarrassing for Celebrity. Would they call out someone’s child of the same race? I hardly think so. I’m actually pretty shocked this happened. This isn’t 1950. Interracial families are not exactly unusual anymore. I’m sorry, OP. That would have been extremely upsetting to me.
  6. I went to Japan last June. I don’t remember any mosquitos, but it was very humid. I think it would be a little different being on a cruise ship, but I was pretty gross and sweaty most of the time. I walked over 10 miles a day, and Japan doesn’t have a lot of public seating. I was hot and tired! That said, I definitely don’t regret the trip. We had to go in summer because my child was in high school. If I went back, I would probably not choose summer months. But if those are the only dates that work for you, I wouldn’t let it stop you. We weren’t on any tour so if we’d been shuttled around in tour buses I’m sure I’d have been less sweaty. But I think I would have seen a lot less. Plus, the Shinkansen is cool! I heard that July and August are even “worse” for humidity. I’d liken it to Florida humidity. The up side was that everything was cheaper.
  7. Oh, that's interesting. It's priced at 77 before tips for my February 18th sailing. It was cheaper when I bought it, and then it bumped up.
  8. Thanks! I only needed one device so I went back and bought it again and cancelled this. I wish it had been phrased more clearly. I thought it was a special because it hadn’t shown up on for my sailing before. (I guess it was…but not in the way I thought.)
  9. I am confused. I had reserved the premium wifi upgrade for 1 device, but then today I saw this and thought it was a special deal to get 2 devices for one. So I cancelled the premium wifi for 1 device. But now if I am reading it right, is it just an upgrade and your still need the purchase the premium wifi for the first device? This is so confusing. 10. They definitely raised prices on Eden and La Voyage. I booked Eden for I think around 60 dollars in November (I think) and now it's up to 77 (pre cruise). And La Voyage also went up. I was going to use that for the my 3 night dining package I purchased and now it says there is a 20 dollar upcharge for La Voyage. There was not one when I booked the package.
  11. It seems like you found out early? When I looked at the celebrity suites the other day there were thirteen of them, and now there are only two. But now a sunset sky suite and regular sky suite and magic carpet sky suite opened up.
  12. Oooh. You are on my sailing. I briefly bid on the celebrity suite at the minimum for me which I think was like 1,175, but I ultimately couldn't justify the price for the trip, so I cancelled. But it looked like there were quite a few celebrity suites left. I have kept my bids on the sky suites because they were less, as well as an aqua class. (I'm in a normal infinite veranda now.) But I don't have a lot of hope since those seem pretty booked up! That was a strong bid. Did you find out right away?
  13. (I think some were removed. But it wasn't because of me.) Yes! I am picky, although not in a "fine dining" kind of way. I'm also kind of afraid of buffets. I admit it! I will eat at them, but only as a last resort because I worry about all the people standing over them and touching things. Yes! That was it. The Park Cafe. That's a bummer. It was really good and healthy. That was really what I was wondering--because I hadn't cruised in so long. I keep hearing people say there have been all of these cutbacks, so I wondered if that was why. I found these really great videos that a young couple did of their Thanksgiving trip on the Ascent, and they went through almost all of the specialty restaurants. And they looked very good. I pretty much booked specialty restaurants for every dinner night. (I bought one of the 3 night packages, so I do have to make a few reservations when I get on the ship.) I also saw that there are more casual specialty restaurants on the ship like Le Grande Bistro and Craft Social for lunches. I don't really drink, so I'd rather put the money into food. Thank you. I will report back after my trip, and then judge whether I am just totally picky or if I thought the food was really better.
  14. Thank you. While I sometimes like fine dining, I'm also just happy with basic good food. Give me a plate of Maggianos spaghetti and I'm fine. Actually, the steak was the thing I thought was the best in the specialty restaurant. The first night we went, it was actually great. So, I would not say ALL of the food was bad. It was just that I didn't feel there were enough places to get food I liked or to ask to customize it in a way that was appetizing. They had several different little "grab and go" spots that had sandwiches, but I admit I am picky and didn't find the few combos of the sandwiches to be appetizing. Or like I don't want to eat chicken salad sandwiches or seafood sandwiches that have been sitting out in a case. If I could have said, can I have a turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato and mayo, that would be fine. I remember a long time ago when I went on Royal they had this little place that would make fresh salads for you. That was great. You could go and choose what you wanted in your salad, and they would make it fresh for you--kind of like Chopt. I liked that it was not at a buffet. I feel like if RCL could offer that amount of customization, I don't know why a slightly higher end cruise couldn't. Maybe I should have stuck with RCL because I like all the options and entertainment. It's just that I like luxury too and not that many kids. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I already paid the money. The ship looks fabulous. I will bring snacks for my picky self. Food is subjective, and I don't mind not gaining weight.
  15. I just returned from a cruise on the Sky Princess, and I planned another cruise later this year on the Celebrity Ascent. I used to cruise about once a year on Royal, Disney, and NCL from around 2008-2013, but I stopped for a long time (almost 10 years) because I had a chronic illness that made me nervous to manage at sea. But I am better right now. I learned quickly on Royal and NCL that I preferred specialty restaurants to the MDR, and the quality on them was good. Not fine dining but equivalent to pretty good chain restaurants on land. For this cruise I chose Princess because my child is grown, and I'd heard that the food was supposed to be good. But I found it bad--not only in the MDR, but in specialty restaurants. The Italian restaurant was really bad, and I couldn't even eat at the seafood restaurant because it smelled so bad. The only good restaurant was the steakhouse. We at there twice and would have gone a third time if we could have gotten in. My husband got sick from the buffet one day. I was basically ordering grilled cheese sandwiches off the kids menu for lunches, and sometimes those didn't even come grilled! LOL. Everyone talked about this amazing pizza, and I wondered if they'd ever had Dominos. I lost 2 pounds on my cruise! Not complaining about that. Now I am kind of worried about Celebrity because supposedly Celebrity has good food. I have a lot of specialty restaurants booked, and I have a move up bid so I might get into Luminae (although I've heard some mixed things about that). I resolved to pack some snacks with me. For those who have been on the newer Princess ships vs. the Edge class ships, should I expect more of the same? Has quality just declined overall since I used to cruise? (I know some will say yes.) Or did I just get unlucky on Princess?
  16. Hello! I will be getting off a cruise at Fort Lauderdale and the plane doesn’t leave from FLL until 8PM. My friend has never been to Florida before. I’m debating a day pass at a close resort or going to the airport and renting a car so we can drive around the area. Or I’m open to another idea. I’m worried that after a week of cruising the day pass might just feel like more of the same. But I’m also not very familiar with the area and not sure what’s easily accessible. What would you do with one long day with someone who had never visited Florida before. I’d originally thought about driving to Miami. But I’m not sure. Thanks!
  17. That’s so weird. I wrote to the company that I guess handles the move up program and asked them why I can no longer bid. There are quite a few celebrity suites left but very few sky suites that I can see. I was also able to bid on a sunset sky suite and I see none of those available at all. Thanks for letting me know. Unless a bid of mine was accepted? But then I don’t think they would all still say pending.
  18. I assumed so. That’s also why I thought it was weird the celebrity suites disappeared when there are so many left. Unless people in sky suites upgraded and the website just isn’t showing that. I’m not sure. I’ve never used this system before.
  19. Yes. They are all still pending. That’s why I thought it was weird the option just disappeared.
  20. I created bids for the February 18 Ascent on several different kinds of sky suites (starting at 795pp) and there was also an offer for celebrity suites. I didn’t bid on them because they were more than I really wanted to spend (min 1145 pp). But I saw there are still quite a few open so I decided to bid. But now that option is gone. Why would they remove the offer when there are still numerous celebrity suites open? (More than sky suites) Anyone know? I thought that was odd.
  21. I was worried about this with my daughter. Honestly, I had resolved not to travel to Florida or the other states with highly restrictive laws against trans people because I did not want to give them my money. But my mom is 81, and she really wanted to go on a family vacation before my daughter goes to college. Cruising just made the most sense, and the most cruises on the east coast, especially the newer ships, leave from Florida. My goal was to spend the least possible time in Florida. So, we are flying in early that morning and then going right back to the airport as soon as we disembark. My daughter passes very well, so I doubt we will have issues. But I will not let her go to the bathroom by herself, if she has to. We will spend the least time possible in Florida. It makes me sad. We used to go to Florida all of the time, but I don't feel my family is safe there right now.
  22. Hi! We aren't going on Carnival, but my family is cruising in December with my newly 18 year old trans daughter, as well as my 81 year old mom. So, don't count all of the straights out. 😉 Some of us who aren't trans have loved ones who are, and I would punch anybody in the face...okay....might not want to get kicked off the cruise....so...give a STERN talking to anyone who was rude. My mom might be the one who would punch somebody in the face!
  23. I have to say that I used to go on cruises and then took a very long break. Now I have two coming up. One is on Princess and one on Celebrity. Initially, I thought they were around the same price, but the Celebrity cruise has turned out to be so much more after adding in the costs for their specialty restaurants and wifi and drinks (and that's just the no alcohol package). We booked one of the all included packages with Princess, and I know that people there were mad at THOSE changes. But we were also upgraded from a mini suite to a penthouse suite at very little charge. Celebrity appeared relatively similar, but their costs for all the extras were so much more. AND they are constantly changing the costs of the extra. I booked Eden for something like 55 dollars? And now it is has suddenly gone up 77. Le Voyage went from something like 68 to 115 overnight? And there is absolutely no hope for a good upgrade because the cost of the suites is insane. I wanted to try Celebrity because I thought the entertainment would be better than on Princess without as many kids as on RCL. But I don't know if I will do it again. I will be curious to see the differences between the two. The cruises I went on before were RCL, NCL, and Disney. I had also initially looked at Virgin, but I thought it was pricey. Now I realize it would have been a better deal because so much was included. However, 7 day cruises did not leave from a convenient port.
  24. I tried this tip but it just asks for my reservation number. I have been looking for a similar program to my sailing to help with planning dinners and excursions. Mine is for the Ascent on February 18. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Thanks!
