  1. Good morning!

BFF and myself trying to plan a last minute cruise in the first two weeks of March. Due to an eye injury, work schedule and a new grandbaby coming, we are beyond limited to dates. We are also on a budget, that won't budge. :(

We are looking at oceanview but also looking to save some money. Has anyone every heard or know if an interior room is more prone to one having sea sickness? This will be my 9th cruise and I've never booked an interior not ever had sea sickness. She has gone on 3 cruises and hasn't as well. Due to our limitations, booking a last minute cruise we are finding many "sold out" rooms. We are looking at booking an interior for this reason.

Has anyone ever experience sea sickness and thought it was due to the room? I'm asking as she has heard this from someone who has experienced this.

Thanks to all who respond! Happy sailings. :)

  2. Good Friday morning!

Having a bond pay out on Monday and thinking about investing in stocks. I've seen previous posts about benefits of being a Carnival stock holder. Can anyone share what they know about those benefits, if any?
    Thanks to all who reply.
  3. Their cruise date is August 7th. I'm not sure of their flight plans yet. I've suggested non stop flights out of Indy early in the morning. I've also given them some of the suggestions given here.

We did the cruise shuttle once and I am NOT a fan. We arrived, on the day of our cruise early in the morning. The one and only time we flew in the same day we left. We had to wait until the bus was full and that was 4 hours later. By that time, the welcome aboard party was in full force and lunch was being served. We could have walked to the port faster than this. It was past lunch and who buys food in the airport when you KNOW there is free food on board? We would always tease my Dad, when he was alive about his food alarm. He HAD to eat at 8, 12 and 6! His food alarm was sounding loud and clear. When they finally called our number, we scrambled to the bus. In the hustle and bustle we left behind our camara bag. Ran back to the airport 5 minutes later and of course, GONE. So the cruise shuttle has always been a Debbie downer for me. As you can tell, it's not been something I had suggested to them! LOL. Others swear by it, but it's not for me.

  4. If they are flying in at least one day early a one-way rental car is the way to go -- cheaper, flex to stay/shop/dine where you want, and the drive from MCO to PC/Cocoa Beach is all highway and takes just under an hour.

Post cruise, unless their flight is late in the day (after 2-3:00) I would use one of the transport services listed above.

I agree! But unfortunately, they booked the day after their wedding AND the day they set sail. Something I wouldn't do, but they are young! LOL. Thanks for the response.

  5. HELP!

I'm trying to help a friend to plan her first cruise/honeymoon. They have booked a cruise leaving out of Port Canaveral. Of course, the only port in Florida I've never left from. They will be flying into the Orlando airport. What can they expect, cost wise, to get to the port? Any suggestions on companies that provide this service. Or should they just hale a taxi? They are young and this their first trip as young adults, on their own. Thanks to all that respond.

  6. We were on the same sailing and I agree, pink was everywhere. One thing that stuck out as the pink wooded handrails in the elevators. Who knew there was stain that pink! I also agree Kevin did a great job. He and i had a conversation about the woman who was the only person dancing during the Motown and 80's night trivia who fell, both nights!!! We both agreed she was very lucky to have not been hurt. He was very nice. I continue to agree that i too was disappointed that there was no hot tub in the serenity area. It would have been nice. Three disappointing issues we experienced were food, the steakhouse and FTTF. I felt the food was not up to par compared to previous cruises. We had never done the steakhouse or FTTF. Of the 18 oz steak a large portion of both our steaks were fat and inedible. If never been to Texas roadhouse where I ever had a single piece of steak I couldn't or didn't eat. FTTF was a waste of money. We got on the ship 5 minutes before they called zone 1. Poor judgement on our part for buying it as we didn't tender at any stop. If we had of, that might of made a difference. When we disembarked we did self disembark. We were to be in the dining room by 7:30 and got there at 7:00 and were off the ship by 7:45. FTTF didn't mean anything getting off of the ship. Those 3 things didn't not break our trip. We had a wonderful vacation and once again I would recommend Carnival to anyone. We will book again soon for next year. My one suggestion to Carnival would be that when and if and when a blizzard or disaster hits to have someone at the internet cafe to help and assist. There were poor little old ladies up there who had no internet plan, no idea on how to even use a computer, with no back up plan on how to find flights, check on cancellations, etc. I was there trying to print boarding passes and was kicked off 15 times before they finally printed. When I left a crowd had formed and people were on edge and starting to get ugly. On my way to find a chair to lay out I flagged down a security guy and suggested they get someone up there. Would sail the Splendor any day! Good luck and happy vacation to those on future sailings.

  7. We will be on the Splendor.

Do you know if the daily pass is x number of hours or the entire 24 hours?

I knew they run better deals once on board but thought the $40 was a set price, like the steakhouse, or the corkage fee, etc. Thus the reason I thought I might need to make a reservation.

    Happy sailing!

  8. Reading about Cloud 9 services before we sail in 7, yes ,7 days!!!!! From what I read am I correct that you can buy a daily pass for $40. Is that unlimited use for that day? Also since I can't find it on the page to make spa reservations, other than the massages, acupuncture, detox etc. Im going to assume you can do that once you get on board the ship? Thinking I may treat myself to the pools, and treatment steams, and baths on the next to the last sea day. Thoughts and suggestions please. Anyone ever used these facilities? What was your favorite? And how if anyway did you benefit? Did I mention 7 days? Lol.

  9. We leave for our cruise in 7 days and today, I was looking over deck plans of the Splendor to make myself familiar. I thought I had read that this ship was originally built for another cruise line so its a bit different than our former cruises. Does anyone know if the liner pool is adult only like the sky pool on the conquest?

  10. They do happen but not often. We were booked in a room that is categorized as interior. I forget the name but its the 6th floor and you look straight out the front of the ship. There are only 5 or 6 of these types of rooms. Anyway, we received a call and we're offered a balcony AND $100 refund! We took it of course.

  11. I know the feeling, one has to plan ahead. I will tell you I did a manicure a few years ago and it was something like $80! I've also did a massage once as well. It's my understanding that these employees are not Carnival employees, but a "sub contractor" so to speak. Once done, they will try and sell, sell, sell! Everything they used on you, they try and sell you. The prices for products are about as high as the service itself. Also, try and book near the end of the cruise they will run sales. Since then, we've always found a place in port that does massages for a fraction of the cost. In Costa Maya years ago, we had a 90 minute massage for $30.00, plus tip. Good luck whatever you decided and enjoy your trip!

  12. I just did my door decoration this past weekend. I just used a single sheet of scrapbook paper. It's nothing major in size by any means. It was in blues and was a picture of a beach, sea, sun and a palm tree. I bought scrapbook stickers that were of a ship, dolphins, flowers, and the word "boy voyage." I then bought letters and put our name on the sheet with the year. Using poster putty to adhere to the door.

  13. Please correct me if I'm wrong, you have to book a specific cruise, correct? You can't just put a down payment on, say a 7 day and decide, once you are home, correct? I'd love to take advantage of that but I have to look at work schedules, calendars, payroll (since that's what I do) schedule at work, etc. I just couldn't book at a drop of a hat like that.

  14. So here's the low down. Let me address some of the posts. First off, trust me, we've learned a lesson. Not sure who posted DI stands for "don't invest" but you are SO true. And yes, we've NEVER purchased before so I'm really not sure why we did this last cruise. Maybe because we were celebrating 30 years of marriage and just over radiation treatments and our emotions took over our clear thinking. Either way, we did what we did, but never again.

DI says they only cover items 60 days out so don't say you weren't warned! They sent me an email with an agreement to sign and fax back. They agreed to fix the ring, but . . . . .they can't tell me how much it will be. They already had the credit card information so they have a card to charge for the repair, NO MATTER the cost. The man was VERY hard to understand on the phone and spoke very poor English, but I did get that he "thinks" it would be between $50 and $150.00. Once they get the signed agreement, they will send me the information on where, in New York City to send the ring. From there they will fix it, charge me, and send it back to me. I also can, on our next stop in St. Maartin in a few weeks see if they have the same "color" "clarity" diamond to fix it while in port, for a charge, of course.

Discover Card is the BOMB! They will cover a purchase a year AFTER the warranty has expired! So we are covered for the repair. All I have to do was call and they assigned us a claim number. I should hear back from them within a week or so. I can then have it repaired locally, or I can have Di fix it and be reimbursed.

In the end, lesson learned! I really have an issue with the fact that I've had my wedding rings for over 30 years and have never had an issue. While this ring was 11 months old and a diamond was already gone. I anxious to see what my local jeweler has to say about how much the ring is really worth! Thanks for all who replied. I think if it were to do all over I'd keep my money and spend more time at the beach!

  15. Has anyone had issues with a purchase once they were home? I guess it's a good thing we are going back to St. Maartin, again this year as I've discovered a diamond is missing from our purchase just last year. Just wondering if I've going to be given the run around when we try and fix this issue. Any suggestions? Calling the credit card company now to see if they can be of any help/support.

  16. We are staying at the Best Western on Sterling Road in Dania Beach for our upcoming January cruise. We'll need to find a spot for dinner and to buy some canned soda/water as well. I know Oakwood Mall is near, but not sure if this can be or should be done on foot. Does anyone know this area? And if so, is it safe to do so? LOL. If safe, the only detour might not be a good idea due to heavy traffic. Would also love to eat at Tarks again but not sure if the 2.3 mile walk would be safe. If taking a taxi, does anyone know the approximate cost? It's only 2.3 miles from hotel to Tarks. Thanks all! Happy Sailing & Merry Christmas.
