  1. In the video, a book is shown by Graham Houghton, "The Missing Manual Advanced User Guide". Does anyone know if this is just a prop or if such a book exists. I can't seem to find any books written for the DMC-FZ200.

Anyone find a good book on the camera or is it too early for one?

I saw that someone asked Graham Houghton the same question and he said it was his creation using Photoshop so the guide is on You Tube. There is no book. He does cover just about everything but the more research I do tends to make me inclined to do the basic and let the camera do the technical stuff. I will still have to find the subject. From my back garden I have views of a Church, Castle, Viaduct and, when the leaves are not on the trees a stately home and the Paeonies are starting to come out so no excuses really.

  2. Correct. It may now be part of the free Windows Live install that is pre-installed on some Windows 7 computers.

Windows has improved dramatically since I first started messing about with it and always avoided video but have had a few trials and now it does seem more interesting.

I am currently reading as much as I can about FZ200, watching david Houghton on Y tube and taking few snaps. There seems a lot to learn but my efforts seem to look excellent. I must be pressing the right buttons. I am glad I found this thread.

  3. Thanks to all here for some great photos. I have the camera and just snapped a couple of shots from a bedroom window at an oak tree and a bird box just to introduce myself to the beautiful black FZ200, super autofocus and screen. Now loading PHOTOfunSTUDIO 8.3 PE to see what that is all about. I was using Picassa but things are getting a bit complicated. I believe you use what is avaiable in Windows 7 Dileep for photos and the Windows program for video.

Thanks for the dpreview site C230K.

  4. I have the camera on order, next decision is how big a memory card. I managed quite well with a 2gb previously with my lovely little Konica Minolta Dimage Z5, even with the occasional video.

Lots of sights to see this year with Alaska/Seattle/Amtrak/Chicago in two weeks. Perhaps I should move up to 8gb or would the FZ200 users here suggest more?

I have found out that the SD HC cards which are cheaper are for still photos in the main and the more expensive SD XC class 4 are for still and good video as well. I should have managed that yesterday but failed. They are considerably cheaper than the last time I bought one.

  6. Great pics Dileep and others. I'm glad I looked back at this thread. I am not the proud owner of a FZ200 yet and was having doubts that I might not be able make full use of it and discovered that there was also a FZ60 and that might suit my limited ability, but after looking here and elsewhere I will focus again on the FZ200 which is about £200 less than it was on release.

  7. We are booked on a two week NYE cruise to celebrate our anniversary later this year. We have just discovered some free time in April to get some down time and the best bang for our $$ seems to be a cruise. The issue is that we prefer to cruise on X but the only cruise available goes to the same ports we have been too several times and will return to the end of the year..

The last time we decided to remain on ship was on QM2 berthed at Sokhna on the Red Sea for trips to The Pyramids. It was a long journey and as we had been before and had a memorable day we decided to relax on board as to go again would not beat the first. There was no town to explore, the port is purely for tours and a container traffic. The coaches had cleared the port and no sooner had we relaxed than there was a sandstorm and we had to retreat inside. We still found plenty to do, just not what we planned.
