  1. Thanks. My son isn't able to swallow pills yet, so we do his medicine with applesauce. I was just trying to avoid another thing we need to bring!

Complete an access desk request, accessdesk@ncl.com

You have a medical need for applesauce and they will provide it to you, particularly since it is onboard.

We sailed with my daughter who was allergic to dairy, soy, banana, avocado and kiwi. Applesauce was a safe food that we were given at each meal for her.

  2. Under promo code it just says easyfare. The ship was the Pearl and sailed from Miami on March 6 and returned March 16. Yes I do realize humans make mistakes and the mistake should have been resolved very quickly and very easily as soon as I notified them but unfortunately that is not the case. Like I said it's a promotion that they are offering everyone and it's nothing special and I'm just bewildered that they are making such a big deal out of it. I have been cruising for over thirty years and have been on over twenty cruises but this is the first time I've ever booked directly through Norwegian and it will be the last. Booking date was Feb 9 2015. Stateroom category is IX/GTY

Your answer is in the first line of your post. The EasyFare promo code when googled pulls up a March 2011 press release from NCL and is used by travel partners (travel agents) when booking through the travel partners website.

If the promo code was linked to a travel agent as it is only for use by travel partners that is why the front desk couldn't understand you booked directly with NCL your reservation was telling them you booked through a travel partner.

You would need to do a lot more digging to find out why a PCC is using a code that is not for their use.

  3. Please understand that the tenders are not run by NCL staff, they are run by the locals and there is no NCL staff present.

I seriously doubt OPs version of the incident, but even if it happened, it was OPs fault for not reading their tickets which were clearly marked as to the assembly point.

We were on the Dawn the same week and it was a wonderful cruise. The shore excursion staff could not have been more polite or helpful. I was at there desk a number of times and had to bite my tongue at the way they were treated by passengers, yet they always maintained their professionalism.

I would not worry in the least about the Dawn, you will love it.

Here is a link to my short review of the same trip. Feel free to post there if you have any questions and I will get back to you.

This has been our experience on the Dawn as well. There were no shore excursion staff on the port in Belize when we arrived, we met with the tour operators and were directed by the locals who operate the tenders.

  4. I can remember on NCL (I know OP is asking about Carnival), that we used a variety of gloves onboard. I believe the latex are cheaper, so those who didn't have any problem with latex would wear those, while those whose skin reacted would wear nitrile.

While you may see cross-contamination in food service ashore, the USPH protocols for hand hygiene are extremely strict, and you will see multiple glove changes if you could observe a meal service behind the scenes. In fact, wait staff, after touching a dirty plate and taking it back to the bus station, must either change gloves or wash their hands before they can touch a clean plate for the next course or table's service. There is even a disconnect between the input end of the dishwashing machine (dirty dishes) and the output end (clean dishes) to the extent that there will be two people stationed there to prevent cross-contamination. I doubt you'd see either practice in any restaurant ashore.

Anyone interested in cruise ship sanitation, you can download the 300 page operations manual, or the 120 page construction manual, which covers all cruise ships calling in the US, from the CDC VSP (Vessel Sanitation Program) site.

As chengkp75 mentioned various gloves may be used in different areas of the ship. On our sailing the entire housekeeping and food and beverage staff switched to latex free gloves. Each evening at dinner when we were seated the box of gloves would be sitting in the center of the table. I could tell exactly which table was ours before we were ever seated. I would visually confirm the gloves were safe and they would take my daughter's order and the gloves back to the allergy kitchen. Maintenance workers painting areas of the ship or other activities that required gloves did wear latex or rubber coated gloves.

Balloons are another huge issue for my daughter. Work with the special needs program regarding alternate boarding arrangements. Our family is cleared for active dock access and either the entire family or daughter and 1 parent to board via the crew gangway and are escorted to our room through the crew access points. This avoids the latex balloons on the skybridge to the ship or on the outside deck of the ship. We also make arrangements for the make-up muster drill as the balloons are often still out on the deck until sail away when they are removed.

  5. Thank you-I have done so, but with no reply as yet. I contacted the Special Needs Department at Carnival.

I just asked to see if someone might have noticed on a prior cruise. I've been in the medical field for 24+ years, so I won't take just word of mouth. I carry my own meds with me at all times, and wear a Medic-Alert bracelet also.

Thanks again all. I may go ahead when I get a response and post it, just in case anyone in the future wonders.

Your question is exactly how I found your post in a search and know I have info I can share.

  6. My 4 year old has a life threatening latex allergy. We can not sail carnival due to her allergy. Special needs was not able to meet the accommodations my daughter needs. Please e-mail me daadme at gmail dot com I will share our cruising experience and history. My daughter is anaphylaxis to contact and airborne latex.

  7. Make sure if you make multiple reservations that you go to the restaurant onboard and have them combined. Our blended family of 7 almost didn't eat our last night at a specialty restaurant together. I booked for the 4 in my room, step kids mom booked for the 3 in her room. Our reservations were linked we didn't think anything of it until at the restaurant and last minute shuffling had to happen to make it work.

  8. They don't have phones or pagers. You tell them where you are going to be or you go check on them. .

This is not true. Splash academy does have several methods to contact parents that are dependent on the child's needs.

    A) handy-phone - same as all other phones used by crew onboard and in suites. Used when splash academy staff need instant communication with parents that requires 2 way communication.

    B) pagers - one way communication when splash academy needs to reach parents but can wait for parent to find ship phone to call splash academy or return to splash academy

    C) location notes - splash academy will ask where you will be located and splash academy will call that area or send someone to look for you in that area

    D) parents can call splash academy at the number provided on business card during open house and ask for a status update on their child.

I have a child with a life threatening allergy that is found in many common products and the environment. Splash academy needs to be able to reach us and most issues can be resolved by phone call rather than returning to splash academy.

We are issued two phones that we keep for the cruise and turn in on the last night. This allows the various officers as well as splash academy to reach us and collaborate on ensuring a safe environment for my daughter.

This is not the norm as the pagers and phones are usually issued each time the child is signed into splash academy and returned when the child is picked up.

  9. Yes, my daughter has a passport at 4 she looks nothing like her 9 month old self. A photo ID is pointless. The customs agents did ask her to tell them her name, her age and who she was traveling with upon our return in Feb.

  10. I hope so. But we literally have caught her with hers down and she will be paying big. Seems she has a new job as a professional prostitute at The Bunny Ranch in Reno. She is being brought to court this month and doesn't know we know about her career. She has been paying $50.00 per week and our lawyer is subpoenaing her 1099. Since she made Bunny of the month and has recently done a photo shoot for Penthouse. She can afford way more than that. When she finds out that we are taking this trip she will try to block it. Just out of spite. I may have to take her to court to get to take him. But we are trying to avoid that if possible.

Sounds like you know the path ahead. Ask your lawyer to draft paperwork for the trip so that it is covered. (Interpretation of court order and child's dad being able to make the trip with him.). May also need to petition the court for authorization to get passport for him as a just in case so that you are not stuck should something happen unable to board a plane back to the US with him or waiting in Bermuda for permission from BM to issue the passport.

We've never been asked for the notarized letters on a cruise. Although doesn't mean somehow you won't be asked.

  11. When are you traveling? Does the court order specify travel? Does BM know about the travel? Is he traveling on a passport? If she is vindictive there is lots she can do that can interfere with the trip.

You mentioned the court order says joint custody. Even though your boyfriend has physical custody, joint legal means she has a say although he has final that may not stand up. We have a clause after the statement joint physical custody but one home primary for school but that in the opinion of several organizations is that home is primary. It's messed up and can't be fixed without another court order.

  12. We just stayed in 12018, ask for a second blanket for the couple on the Murphy bed. The blanket barely covered the bed so hubby and I had to be close. We were 5 adults and a 4 year old. The room was great, snacks every day!

  13. i think i have that form to fill in :o it was sent to me after booking and is headed

    Guest Special Request Information

    the first question is

allergies/ special diet please specify any special dietary requests or any kind of allergies you may have

but then it goes on to say

please meet with the restaurant manager or executive chef once on board to further discuss your dietary needs

i hope this is the correct form it is was sent to me in a email headed information for wheelchairs

Yep that is the form, fill out one for each guest needing accommodations. One for the vegetarian diet and no dairy. And a separate on for the wheelchairs unless the same person is both the diet needs and wheelchair.

  14. With a limited diet of vegetarian and no dairy I would not wait until on the ship. The access needs form from the access desk states Vegetarian as one of the diet options they can accommodate. This form will help the ship plan for her meals rather than scrambling with each maître de.

  15. Thank you for the speedy responses!

Another FYI that I forgot to mention about the phones. After a friend of mine came out of the shower, the steam set off the fire alarm in the cabin. A warning came through the phone's speaker saying help was on it's way. :/

Anyone else heard of that happening? It's happened to me at home when dd forgot to turn the fan on

We had to do the make up safety drill and the safety officer said it happens 20 times a day on a given sailing. They are required to investigate each and every alarm sensor activation for evidence of fire. He basically told us keep the bathroom door shut while showering. He also said on the Bermuda run opening the balcony doors sets off the sensors due to the temperature difference. Because fire is a huge risk onboard a ship the sensors are super sensitive.

  16. It's a trade-off between taking the best possible precautions, and living in a cave at home

We figure we do the best we can, and avoid trips that might have unusually high risks given our particular concerns.

But NCL has impressed us greatly, especially on the most recent cruise, with their attention to "special needs".

Just give them enough time and information - and your time onboard - so they *can* do their best.

    GeezerCouple

We choose to not live in a cave, we know the risks and NCL has been awesome at minimizing those risks to a level that we are comfortable with and continue to cruise with them. We spent almost a year working with NCL regarding my daughter's specific needs before we ever boarded a ship. We have been asked if we are okay with our daughters need's being used in crew enrichment education. We've always agreed and assist with educating them on what are areas of concern.

I can't reiterate enough give them enough time and information - and your time onboard - so they **CAN** do their best!
