Thanks for the replies. I just want to be able to take some time after my plane gets in in the morning to tour Lisbon some without having to cut it short just to check-in and then go back out. I may be so tired that it won't matter much, but I would like the option. 3:30pm is about as late as I would even consider a check-in. My plan is to taxi to the port from the airport, drop off my luggage, then pick up a hop-on hop-off bus and kick around as long as I can (or am awake for).

I am going on my 1st MSC cruise next month out of Lisbon. My question revolves around the timing of checking in at the port on embarkation day. My check-in opens at 1pm and it says that my check-in closes one hour later (2pm). Does this me that I can only check-in between 1 and 2 pm? The ship doesn't leave port until 6pm and I had planned on looking around town until 3:30 or so and then check-in.

Yes. I book the NCL cruise through a travel agent (I forget who) that includes travel insurance as a perk through a private company.

I had to do this on an NCL cruise a few years back. My wife dropped a large pan of hot water on her lap about 6 weeks before the cruise. She had second degree burns on her legs and arm. After a couple of weeks she finally went to the doctor how immediately told her she was not traveling anywhere for at least 2 more months. So, I went solo. The taxes for the no-show will be refunded automatically by the cruise line. When I completed the insurance forms, I was only claiming a refund for her cruise fare since I went. I ended up with BOTH of our cruise fares refunded. So the cruise ended up only costing me my port fee and taxes.

The upgrade fairy just visited me. My first time sailing on Carnival, too. I was so excited! Until I looked at the offer. It was for an upgrade from my inside Deck 1 for a balcony which was great. Unfortunately it was about the same cost difference in the offer as if I had originally booked a balcony, which I can't afford. 😪 Maybe next time.
