  1. I find myself drinking more on vacation than I do at home doing yard work since the entire day is put aside for relaxing and entertainment so using that to measure consumption may not be valid. Now that the specialty coffee and energy drinks and such are included it also adds value to the package.

  2. I would take the Empress. I have stayed forward, mid and aft on just about every deck and I really think the motion minimization aspect some claim is completely overblown. If the ship is moving you are going to feel it and while it may be slightly less mid ships it is not going to minimize it to the point there is an actual benefit.

Give me the FWD cabins on the Empress means a short walk to the Atrium where there is a nice bar and easy access to the heart of the ship.

  3. As above....the policy is clear and posted. It is a stand alone travel document from the states that are up and running.

    State Enhanced Driver's License (EDL)

The State Enhanced Driver's License cannot be used to travel by air outside the United States.

Several states are working with the Department of Homeland Security to develop an EDL for U.S. citizens residing in their states. This document will denote both citizenship and identity and will facilitate the entry process at land and sea ports of entry. The word 'Enhanced' must appear on the license. The following states issue this type of WHTI-compliant document: Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont and Washington.

  4. If you want to use cash for a portion why not just wait until the last evening and make your cash payment. The remainder will be charged overnight to the card on file.

Seems easier than making multiple payments throughout the week, the total at the end is the same.

  5. Yes, the "old style" burgers may have sat under a heat lamp if they were there for awhile, you can always get a fresh one. They are fried on the grill and then put together immediately. Just as fresh as a Guy's burger.

I have had both many times....even when the one from the grill was 'fresh'....no comparison.

  6. I certainly have not seen the type deals I found a few years ago. Many of the prices last fall/winter stayed pretty stable where in the past at least one or two sailings would really bottom out. Even watching early spring this year there wasn't much action.

My tactic was simply picking a week that we planned to travel and watching everything that sailed in that time frame. If budget was the #1 priority we didn't really focus on particular ships or itineraries. I would key on the two or three that had large price drops and go from there. I have been very successful many times finding cruises at prices that shocked others. You have to be flexible and willing to book as late as a few days prior.

  7. I think it's mostly the "hype." Everyone talks about the burgers and maybe when the pax who have never sailed on a ship with a Guys finally get/eat one, they are like: what's the big deal!? I love them, but as I said, it wouldn't be a deciding factor on booking a ship with or without!

I agree I would not let it be a deciding factor but the bottom line is there is no comparison when it comes to what was normally offered, the basic thin and bland patty chunked under a heat lamp. This has all the feel of the specialty burger joints that are popular right now.

  8. Gotta ask. Basic steak and frozen lobster tails are readily available at your local supermarket. Why is it a big deal on a cruise?

Maybe because people enjoy a surf and turf type combo, it is something they may indulge in on occasion. Given it has always been offered on board they plan on ordering it the night it is available.

  9. You will find lots of similarities. Freestyle cruising works pretty seamlessly and there are lots of free dining choices. O'Sheeans and the Ginza are great. As you already see, the fare is higher but the overall cost can be lower when you factor in perks. Our last NCL cruise was a super bargain fall cruise, the total cost including UBP was not much more than what Cheers would have cost on its own. There are deals out there.

  10. I really have no idea how someone could be disappointed with Guy's burgers compared to the normal burger offerings you find at sea. Cooked fresh...loads of toppings....loads of condiments....and no up charge.

Some people would complain about gold bars though because they are heavy.
