  1. If you've been to the Aquarium could you share what you thought of it?

Also' date=' From King's Wharf what's the best way to get there?

Ferry and then bus looks the best to me? Thanks to all responders![/quote']

My husband and I have been there a few times in our visits to Bermuda...it's small..but we love it...you get into the zoo and the aquarium for the same price...some of the zoo animals walk around freely...I take the ferry whenever possible because the ride is just so beautiful...

  2. Hello everyone - We just got off the Breakaway yesterday (sad!). We were docked in Bermuda from Wednesday through Friday.

We had heard so many negative things about Snorkel Park Beach. Even the captain of our catamaran snorkel tour (Restless Native - which was a lot of fun, BTW) said it should be avoided.

On Friday the kids were occupied so my wife and I decided to spend $10 and go to the park. It was not at all as bad as everyone says it is. Yes, it was crowded but no more so than Horseshoe Bay. We ended up walking all the way to the fence on the left and had plenty of space.

We saw so many fish and the water was extremely clear. We saw more fish here than we saw on or catamaran snorkel tour. There is even a small wreck to see. The staff were very polite and helpful. One of the workers came out and was telling people where the fish congregate, what to see, etc.

So, if on your last day there you want to see fish and hang out and relax within walking distance of the ship I would not hesitate to suggest you go here. I would suggest that you wear water shoes or flippers as the entry is very rocky.

    I agree

  3. I have seen people talking about some unique jewelry that has the pink bermuda sand, I hope to find that on our upcoming trip!

There is a shop in St. George on the same street and side with Wahoo's..off the square...I'm not sure the name..but they make local handmade jewelry. I love their shop...

  4. CapitalKyle, to find the little coves you showed in your picture a, do you go left or right when facing the water?

At Horseshoe, there is the large cove off to the right as you walk down the path from the convenience area - must have been chilly when Kyle was there, as I recall there are usually more people with tots in the calm water. There are smaller coves and unusual formations visible at low tide in front of that.

  5. St. George's is the parish, there are nine parishes in Bermuda, in which the town of St. George is located.

Just to gum things up, it is also my understanding that if you refer to the town without the formal "Town of," it is proper to call it "St. George's " as well...

  6. Full service is already in effect. They've been using a catamaran from their own fleet until the Millennium is ready to go.

Where on earth did they come up with another cat from their fleet? I

thought they were short a boat...

  7. Summer schedule of ferries to St George's is back in effect.

The additional high-speed ferry, the Millennium, is leased from the U.S. It is due to leave RI on the 28th, and will arrive at the end of the week. Then when it is "readied" it will be put into service to St George's.

I imagine the full service will be in place by the first weekend in May.

  8. If the cruise line had raised fares $7 per person between the time you were first considering taking the cruise and the date you actually were about to book it, would that minor fare difference cause you to not book the cruise? What if the average price of a cocktail increased by $1, and you typically drank one cocktail a day. Would the $7 additional for a 7 day cruise cause you to not book? In all likelihood you would never even know if the cruise line raised drink prices (or shore excursion prices, or the price of just about anything on board) or by how much they were raised...and they do that all the time.

$7 per person is exactly how much additional you will pay for 2 one day transportation passes ($19x2 = $38) versus a single two day pass ($31).

Don't get me wrong...I'm not happy with the changes either...no one wants to pay more for something, but it certainly won't cause me to change my cruising plans.

    I agree

  9. Thanks for the extra info. A quick check leads me to believe some properties have dual listings on BermudaRentals and the vacation rentals part of Tripadvisor. St George seems to have the historic vibe of Bermuda plus close to the airport going for it. I am thinking we might want to be more centrally located... maybe along the south coast? Pagent(sp) seems to pop up frequently? Time for some additional research but all the assistance has given me a great base to work from. Now I will have to study flights. Not many are direct... seems strange to leave Newark, fly to PHL for a 3-4 hour layover, before traveling to Bermuda. Then repeating the legs on the way back... Even looked into Boston... again most flights had hours of layover time. Guess Bermuda is not a 'profitable' route???

BTW I did a quick re-check on the cruise option... had forgotten there were no cruises in October(?) and only one at the end of April. Must have been why I had been researching May dates.

Last year we stayed in St. George for 5 days..just up on one of the hills...this year we are staying 7 days right near the square in town....we fly direct from Ronald Reagan airport..I think there's like 1 flight a day that is direct...some of the layovers were just silly....staying in town we can walk to eat and to the grocery store and ferry and use the shuttle...

  10. I have been to Bermuda 7 times, all cruises. This year we are going for a 7 nt stay in Bermuda this May. We are renting a place instead of a hotel. Cost is a little under $1000.00 per person. (2 adults, air & lodging) This does not inc. food, drink, etc. But we have a kitchen, dining rm, living rm, and 2 bed rms. I have never done this before, so I'll have to see how it goes. But, there is so much to do and see in Bermuda, 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 days is not nearly enough to visit, IMHO. I have been in Apr, May, June, and July. April is very nice, but water is too cold. July is too hot ( unless you just want to go to the beach). Their dew point is extremely high..... 82 feels like 90-100, and very sticky, heavy air. Middle of May to middle of June is best to me.

you will love staying there...we did that last year and are staying a week this year..renting a place is an option we had never thought about...it worked out great...and renting private homes is a great and less expensive way to go...staying there locally for that long let's you become a bit of a local...which we loved...we stayed in St. George's...where are you staying?

  11. Originally I wanted to look for a cruise to Bermuda in April or May 2017. Lack of availability tells me Bermuda must not be warm in April? What should I expect for weather on an early May visit? BTW my other choice had been October but the chance of a hurricane ( and my poor luck) caused me to reconsider.

Will the 3 day stay from a Celebrity Summit cruise out of New Jersey be long enough to see the Island. The cost to fly vs cruise is pretty much a toss-up. If I flew I could likely stay 4 or 5 nights. Although the cost per night in Bermuda is far higher than I was expecting! That was part of what pushed me back to the cruise as a "floating hotel" with at least one daily meal already included.

When it comes to touring Bermuda as a first time visitor, does either a being a cruise ship passenger or staying at a hotel offer any advantage? Kings Wharf seems to be a major starting point?

    thanks

If you want to fly there and stay...we did that last year and are doing it again this year...don't stay at a hotel...go in to vrbo(vacation rentals by owners) they charge a lot less...plus you can see we also like to cruise there...:)

  12. Good grief! We can offer you more than a 'US-style fast food restaurant' (which only exists because it started before the legislation came in to ban such abominations).

Downstairs at the Washington Mall (on Church St, opposite City Hall) is a food court with various options for a quick and casual lunch.

Or there is a well respected lunch cart on Front St, close to the ferry terminal. Sit and watch the harbour right there.

Or go into the Market Place (supermarket) on Church St just a little further up than the bus station for sandwiches, a salad bar, fruit, cookies, drinks etc.

Venture down the hill behind City Hall to Victoria Park, or walk behind the Perot Post Office on Queen St to Elizabeth Park, for pleasant places outdoors to sit and eat.

I agree with all of your suggestions...I really enjoy the new Washington mall...

  13. Hi we will be there in 2 weeks (Yea!) what kind of shopping is in St. George?

    Thanks

    Jennifer

St. George's has a lot of quaint shops..most of my favorites are on the street that Wahoo's is on....

  14. Hi, We are going to Bermuda the week of September 6th, would you go to Tobacco Bay if you don't snorkel, I've never been to that side of the island and would love to go to St. George and figure check out the beaches why we are there.

    Thanks

    Jennifer

Tobacco Bay is my favorite beach and St. George's is my favorite part of the island.
